Ok, ok, this is going to sound weird, but I've had enough of today's "society". I hate it. It's so materialistic and worldly, right?! Screw capitalism! Sooo, we're learning about the '60's in History, and 'lo and behold, I found out I *totally* relate to the hippies. I was so born in the wrong generation. I would've totally been a hippie had I been born around 30 years earlier. My question for all you nice punker folks is, can you teach me to be one of you? (Very very odd request) I am totally resenting the establishment, and I need to find out an alternative lifestyle. I so do not want to be a blue collar worker for the rest of my life. ASSIMILATE ME! lol -.-'

Just treat everyone the same...
EVERYONE, don't let old people get away with saying things just because they're old...
Don't hold the door open for a Nun if you wouldn't do the same for 15 year old jewish kid with an afro...
See I basically live by the "no hot chicks" rule...
It's where you see all your friends falling all over these girls and doing everything for them, while I'm completely unphased because I know no matter what I do, I'm not sleeping with her, so why the hell should I hold doors for her or do her favors, especially if I'm never gonna see her again...
It's really just a matter of how you see things...
Equality is where it starts, and then a good thing to do is study the faults of this country as an establishment and religion as a whole, and spread your word like a prophet of rage...
Be heard, even if people could care less about what you're saying, make sure that they'll be thinking about it when they're trying to fall asleep...
Inconsistences in our society are so plentiful that it really isn't too hard...
And thirdly, good luck :)
Oh and one more thing, live life not a fantasy...
Make sure you think about the realism of what you're doing, and always strive to accomplish something in your life, don't settle...

omg, that was really long Goatman, thank you so much for giving me pointers. I'm a girl btw ;) So some of the stuff didn't apply, but omg I'm so def. following your advice on the adult things. I hate old people, you're totally right. Just because they got age on me, don't mean nothing. (Intentional abuse of english). And I totally believe in people being equal...not just in age. In everything. Sexuality, race, age, everything in between. But I'm pretty much stuck on life as a fantasy part. I can't accept that someday I'm going to get old and die. I feel like I'm young and immortal (I"m 16) It's so hard to face reality...

goatindaruffness
04-02-2004, 05:56 PM
See the thing is you don't have to accept getting old and dying, just worry about living....
Dying is going to eventually come but if you're more worried about living, dying hardly even becomes a factor...
Like my goal in life, unlike many isn't to just get a house, have a kid, retire happy, and have a nice funeral where everyone cries...
I want to make an impact...
That's all my goal is, it doesn't matter how, just as long as I do it...
Whether I invent something like Ron Popeil or Billy Mays from the invention channel (you know the guy who gives away a 5,000 gallon tub of oxy clean with ever ding king you buy), save the planet from aliens with nostrils on their teeth, or take out a Bush or two...
Hell I wouldn't even mind eating a lot of cheese and farting at the baseball hall of fame induction ceremony because when Pete Rose says "who farted??", I'll know it was me, and damn if that's all the impact I made, at least I made it...
So don't accept death, just live...
It ain't that hard, I mean you've been doing it for over 16 years... :)

LOL, haha, you're so inspiring! Actually, I'm pretty suicidal, I despise life, but I'm so afraid that death will hurt. If there was a way to go painlessly w/o hesitation, I would do it. No question. But the way you talk...it sounds like you're my twin! I don't want a stupid house or kids either. I do want to do something where everyone will remember me. I want a legacy too. I don't want to be a no name...

goatindaruffness
04-02-2004, 06:08 PM
You really can't be pretty suicidal, you either are or you aren't...
I do understand what you're saying but if it's because of the things around you, don't even worry about it...
If you care to get more personal, maybe I can help...
If you want you can e-mail me at ccaveinn@aol.com...
I'd be happy to write back, if you're ever facing a lot of pressure maybe I can help, it sounds stupid, but you never know, I've basically been through it all and I know how it feels...
Hate to see someone with so much potential go so prematurely... :)

Right, because everyone has seen how well socialism and communism work.

Sooo, we're learning about the '60's in History, and 'lo and behold, I found out I *totally* relate to the hippies.

Damn dirty hippies. A bunch of pot-induced philosophers, not willing to accept the responsibility one must take for themselves and others... look at the legacy of what they did. Free love lead to the proliferation of STDs and a generation of bastards, and drug use swallowed up great sections of the society. While they aren't completely at fault, the do bear some responcibility.

I was so born in the wrong generation. I would've totally been a hippie had I been born around 30 years earlier.

And I'd probably be saying "cut you're hair you dirty hippie".

I don't agree with that, some people are more deserving of respect than others. That doesn't mean you should go around being a jerk to everyone, but priest, soldiers, and those who sacrifice either thier lives or part of thier lives deserve more respect than most.

EVERYONE, don't let old people get away with saying things just because they're old...

You have to have some understanding. Some old people say terrible things because they are the product of the society of the time. That doesn't mean you have to just take it, but you have to understand that they are not like you.

Don't hold the door open for a Nun if you wouldn't do the same for 15 year old jewish kid with an afro...

Respect is earned, not given. Nuns sacrifice thier lives to the service of God,and thusly are more deserving of respect than some 15 year old kid. Of course, I still would hold the door open for the 15 year old, but he isn't just entitled the same amount of respect as someone so freely sacrificing themselves.

Because it's the right, proper and respectful thing to do?
A good deed is it's own reward. People have become so jaded because there are people that act with only thier own ulterior motives in mind. One does good works because it is the right thing to do, not because they think there is a reward for it, in this life or the other.

It's really just a matter of how you see things...
Equality is where it starts, and then a good thing to do is study the faults of this country as an establishment and religion as a whole, and spread your word like a prophet of rage...

People are never truly equal. To believe so is almost childish. The trick is not to let those dispairties taint your actions... you should always strive to treat everyone they way you wish to be treated.

Be heard, even if people could care less about what you're saying, make sure that they'll be thinking about it when they're trying to fall asleep...

Just because you are talking doesn't mean you have something to say. Don't try to put your feelings and beliefs before those of others, just because you feel them so deeply. Empathy is a greatly neglected concept.

Inconsistences in our society are so plentiful that it really isn't too hard...
And thirdly, good luck :)

That's all part of the human condition. Humanity is inherently flawed, and thusly anything created by them is flawed as well.

Oh and one more thing, live life not a fantasy...
That's a pretty good point. See things as they are, not as you wish they were.

Make sure you think about the realism of what you're doing, and always strive to accomplish something in your life, don't settle...
Don't just step over others just to get what you want, though.

Ok, ok, this is going to sound weird, but I've had enough of today's "society". I hate it. It's so materialistic and worldly, right?! Screw capitalism!
http://evilgames.online.fr/fichiers/images/shadow_hearts/shadow_hearts_01.jpg:-k

Do you see the irony in your infatuation with a video game and saying "screw materialism." How about the irony in belonging to a site called cheapassgamer, (supporting) capitalism at its finest, and saying "screw capitalism." "The establishment" is not some ambiguous entity, it is the system by which you reap the benefits of your everyday life: the games you play, the computer you log onto this site with, the posessions you own, etc. If you are willing to give up all these things then by all means continue. Either you follow your ideals or you don't. If you truly want to make your mark in life, and give up materialism and capitalism, there are numerous humanitarian and philanthropic causes to get involved in. You are young still, idealistic and impressionable. However "becoming a punker" is just as bad as "becoming part of the establishment," neither will establish you as an individual, and a free thinker. Many punkers are just as materialistic as their establisment peers, they just covet different things (music, style, etc).

What is it exactly about "the establishment" that you hate, don't throw vauge phrases around, they mean nothing. If you don't want to work 9-5 or be blue collar, capitalism is a free system that allows you to utilize your talents to pursue other avenues of income. What exactly do you hate about capitalism?

About the suicidal thing, that is definitely not something to joke about, either you are or you aren't. If you are you need to seek help whether it be in you family, friends or elsewhere. Don't be assimilated into any group, that will just make you less happy.

If there is one thing i've learned from the 21 years i've been on this planet it's that You must find happines for yourself . There is no One answer for everyone there are many different path to chose from and some maybe be right for you and other paths may not be . Find what you Enjoy in this world and pursue it no matter what anyone thinks or says .

Actually, I'm pretty suicidal

Take it from me as a person thats been suicidal before Death is not the answer to your problems . I know It's hard to get out of a Massive depression once your deep in it you can't see that good in life or the point in even existing anymore . You must remember what's important to you your family your friends and your health . Not to lay a guilt trip on you but you should be grateful for what you have not what you don't have . Think about it for a second you have a home, Family , your not sick or have any terminal diseases, your not starving in a third world country , and you only 16 you have your whole life ahead of you wich might not seem like much but wait till you get older and wish you had the time you have now .

I get depressed and down sometimes too I think it's a natural human emotion and we all must go through it for some reason. Please fell free to Email me anytime you like . (Sayers@email.com)

Woah, I can't believe how many responses I've gotten. It's true how much I contratdicted myself, but...I'm trying to get over video games and stuff like that. I'm trying to resist drugs and crap like that, but it's so hard (well not really, seeing as I have no money anway --'''''). I didn't ask people to criticize me, I just asked for advice. I kinda assumed 'punkness' was a fashion statement, but some people take it more, and I was hoping for help from some like minded people. I guess that's not happening. I'm sorry people...but I'm not closing the topic. I do want to find out more stuff, it's been a pretty interesting read, other than the flamers.

*EDIT*: Honestly, I've looked for help, and no one cares. Luckily, none of the methods of death so far, have been accessible to me. However, once I become 18...the door opens. I do not care, it ends. --''''''''''

OMG. I am so glad I am not 16. Posts like yours are reasons why people dont respect 16 yr olds.

You are all the same btw. And yes...I was just like that too. Most 16 yr olds are. They want to feel different...and special when in truth...YOU ARE EXACTLY LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

You will grow up to be very much like your mom or dad. This is the way of things. Love it or hate it. As for killing yourself...go right ahead but honestly thats just a waste of a good life. At 16 you can do ANYTHING with your life that you want. 16 yr olds feel pretty invincible and heck...maybe they are but I think most 16 yr olds want to test that invincibility and push it hard.

As for being a PUNKER...lol thats stupid. Looks arent everything. Sure you could dress, listen to certain music, or take drugs...but that doesnt make you punk. What makes you a Punk you ask?

ATTITUDE...plain and simple. Enjoy the hate and create chaos.

And grow the freak up...stop the whining about NO ONE CARES!!! and I WANT TO KILL MYSELF..because you just sound like a spoiled little brat. Get a backbone and strive to change things you dont like. Most of all...be yourself and if you dont like yourself...change yourself. You have to power to do it.

You can view this as a flame but I am over twice your age and what I am saying to you is from experience. You are a little girl and your comment about age not mattering is something only someone as young as you would say.
AGE=EXPERIENCE
Your not even an adult yet. I dont count my years as a child as being my life. My life really started when I was about 19 because before that I was just some snot-nose punk who thought he knew it all. Now I am 34 and realize I didnt know ANYTHING back then. I was just too emotional. You need to learn from those around you who are OLDER, WISER,and more EXPERIENCED. Find an elder you can talk to openly and LISTEN to their advice.

I am a crotchety old man!

and of course she isnt suicidal (at least not really) ALL teens think about suicide on a regular basis and while she says she wont do it out of fear of death and pain...the reason she even considers Suicide is FEAR OF LIFE.
She doenst like this..or she doesnt like that...blah blah...its all the same from every kid.

Heck I am 34 and I think about suicide still but it really is a pussy (excuse the expression) way to go. I would much rather fight my way through life no matter wtf is has to offer...I welcome death and I dont fear it but I aint inviting it either. This will most likely change as I get older...as most things do. There is a reason why the Churches are filled with older people who are closer to death..they want something to hope for. A reason not to be depressed that the best years are gone and they are now just waiting to die. I think when I am about 60 (if I make it) I want to become a heroin addict. gotta love the flame wars...

I think MGW dislikes me ever since I said the Morgan Webb looked like she got beaten in the face with a hot dog.

Defender are you sure your not 19 ? Because you still sound and act like a snot-nose punk know it all . What right do you have to judge other people you have no clue what someone else has been through or if someone else actually is suicidal. I don't know you personal (thank god) but you seem like a very hypocrital closed minded type of person .

We are all hypocrates. I admit easily that I am one too. And yeah...I am still a snot-nosed punk know it all. I admit that too. That doesnt make me wrong. I dont take my self as seriously as most people would think. CheapyD can vouch for that...

and Morgan....you really out to kill that image for a signature. CheapyD wants to me install a signature controller and I dont want to have to do it tomorrow. :-) Its kinda tall dont you think?

Hey..I ain't trying to hate on anyone. Forum flame wars can be fun but generally they just create too much drama...hell even Scrubking Vs Defender is old news. I won btw.

BLAH!!!!

I'm curious defender, you said that you can usually judge someone's age by thier attitudes and opinions by how they feel about life?

I'll type back up something I put in this thread before a page of it disappeared into the ether.

Sneaky and chrono were talking about how they wanted to be imporant, to have a legacy.

I answered with this:

Some of the greatest people in history have died in obscurity. I really don't care if I have a legacy or not. All I care is that I leave the world just a little bit better that I found it. If I can make all the people who know me, or all the people I meet's lives just a little bit easier, I'll be happy.

Which age bracket do you think I'd fit into?

1. everyone's obsession with age. people are dumb at any and every age. when you are young, you're dumb because you think what you like is what defines you. you think that if you like a certain type of music you have to have green spikey hair, sleeve tattoos, big gaping holes in your ears, baggy pants, big gold chains, those silly truck driver hats, or whatever else. if you like rap, you try to model yourself after what others who like rap look like. if you like whatever subgenre of rock you want to name, you try to model yourself in that fashion. when you get older, you grow out of that, but you don't grow out of stupidity. you're never too old to be stupid. it's common to lose the "i'm 16 and i know everything" attitude for the "i'm 30 and i know everything" attitude. good example: i was at the bank the other day, and a guy, roughly 40, at a different teller asks a question. the girl says "let me think" and he replies with "is that why it looks like you're in pain?" my point is that as many people grow older, they become too nice or friendly, to the point where they overstep their boundries of a customer or a stranger. many older people also lose grasp on what is and isn't funny, and assumes that everything that comes out of their mouth is pure comedy, and thinks that anyone who doesn't laugh either doesn't get it or doesn't have a sense of humor. and that, my friends, is just as annoying as some 16 year old swearing really loudly in public because he thinks it makes him cool.

2. asking for the advice of "punkers" is silly. what constitutes punk these days? who knows? i could tell you bands that are punk and aren't punk, and someone would lampoon me for not knowing what i'm talking about. even though i do. nowadays, the term punk is so convoluted that you could argue nearly anything is or isn't it. but, who cars?

3. that morgan webb chick has a very masculine jaw.

if you can only get one thing out of this, let it be this:
you're never too old to be stupid.

by no means am I a "respected member of the CAG community" though people do certainly know me around here.
And I'm younger then you, I'm only 14 years old, though I am pretty mature for my age (believe me or not! I don't care what some of your opinions are because it's true!) once you actually get to know me in real life. Suicidal thoughts occur in every teenager's mind. The source is insecurity, low self-confidence and self-esteem, or that you're being emotionally put down, or physically abused. If those are the case, it may be better to run away, or to live with someone who won't upset you, so you can live a happy life instead of ending life. It's so precious, and there must be so many things that you want to do whether you believe it or not. Maybe you have bad family problems. You need to tough it out, because right now I am going through unbelievably difficult family problems and I've decided I want to live with my dad, but my mother would rather put me through HELL then be magnanimous and say, OK, You can live with your father if you want to. She has a few problems which I'd rather not get into, but if you can relate, then that's good. Really, you're determined and judged by how strong and tough you are by the hardest thing you've ever done in your life. If you ran 8 miles, that's a lot more impressive then running 2. If you played a difficult song on an instrument (piano for me) which took you months and months to learn and master, that's more impressive then saying that you play piano. You have to toughen up, because teenagers are at the hardest stages in their life, and if you can make it through this, you can make it through anything. It will only get better, you just need to find a way to get through it so you don't go ending up killing yourself. Suicide is not the answer, though if you really think it is, I suggest you get help at some kind of clinic, and trust me, someone there will definitely care and put your life back on track so that you can be happy.

And just because I'm hyper sometimes and I tend to use "smileys" on the boards doesn't mean you have to talk to me condescendingly like I'm an immature 10 year old girl, because I'm not.

Dude some one seriously needs to slap defender dick out of your mouth because you sound like his little bitch boy .

You post thinks like this and then want any of us to really consider you a legitimate intellect. Instead of taking the high road and pointing out the falacies in Defender's argument, you decide to throw out obcenities to get your point across. Obsenity is the hallmark of a weak mind. A person resorting to obsenity to prove a point just conceeded that they don't really know what to answer back, so instead of just conceeding the argument gracefully, they continue, and try to get the other person to quit by bombarding them with obscenity just to try to get them to drop the thread.
Then the spewer of obscenity claims his worthless little hollow victory, blather on about how he "0wn'd" the other person.

Your diatribe was doubly grevious, because you even had to stoop down the incredibily immature level of trying to use homosexuality as an insult.
If your initial obsenity didn't cast huge doubts on your validity, this just made it abuntantly clear that you weren't up to the argument.

I'm not saying I'm over or above my mother's obvious refusal to let me live with the better person (based on mine and my father's judgement, and anyone's as plainly as they can see), but I'm getting through it. I'm not about to go kill myself. I know that I'll live with him in the end, and everything will be alright again, and hopefully I will live a much happier life without my mother. You need to try to deal with whatever is happening in your life, slowly and gradually to take it all in. Or, you need to at least try to do that if you want to live happily because Suicide isn't the answer. Don't throw your life away because you're not happy how your life is going right now.
Take care,

Lol, you're absolutely right. My dad has completely determined that my incessant Coke drinking, especially at night, has disturbed me in such a way that I'm unable to control my emotions and become agitated, argumentative, and irritated when I drink too much of the sugary stuff. Though surprisingly last night I could completely control myself and was calm, and an hour later I crashed on my bed, not to be disturbed during the entire night, to prove my argument that I've told him countless, endless times that Coke does not affect me or how I sleep entirely. The first thing he does it blame it all on the Coca-Cola, which is partially why he stopped buying it. He was impressed with the amount of "restraint" I had shown last night though, so he allowed me to get a 2-Liter bottle of it (there was no restraining of myself at all, I was simply tired, though he doesn't believe me).
I'm telling you, they must have put crack back in the Coke - I'm addicted.
I go through mood swings or "phases" - I can be completely silly and hyper at one point, and be very mature and serious at another point, it's just normal for me.
Most of the time, my personality is based on the environment I'm in.

You know, I've actually pissed off one teacher by going over thier heads when they did things like that. I'd keep all my papers and tally the grade and even leave around a 7% error for "teacher tampering". I added up my grade, and ended up with a low A based on points, yet the teacher had marked me at a C. I took all of this first to my guidance counsellor, who then told me to take it to the principal. Needless to say, my grade was amended. I'm sorry, but no "football coach" as teacher who gives obvious perks to the football players was going to cost me my full-ride scholarship to the University the next year.

Needless to say, none of my other brothers and sisters had that teacher ever again.

You casually mention suicide and joke about it, and you think everyone is
just going to say "Oh, thats just a kid acting out". One of my best friends in high school had thier father commit suicide because he thought he was a failure. Do you have any idea what that does to the kids and the guy's wife? Kids like to dabble with thier romanitic little notions of killing themselves. I've seen what suicide does to your loved ones. Am I bitter when some starry eyed little kid gets moody and starts throwing around the idea like a toy? Yes. I've had my heart ripped out by just the empathy I feel for my friend... I can't even begin to imagine how it must impact her. I mean think of the implications that leaves on his family.

If you're serious about it, go get help. If your just being a stupid little attention whore and using it to get attention for yourself, do it elsewhere. Yes, some of us are bitter, but there are usually reasons for that.

what i said was far more generalized, not a specific response to anything you said. the only reason i focused on older people being annoying (and we're talking 40s and 50s, older than that they seem ok) is because i figured younger people being annoying went without saying. young and old, black or white, male or female, you can all be annoying.

defender - I don't think you're a very grumpy old man. And trust you me, i've had coffee. In fact, I've been drinking it ever since I was 9. I'm addicted to Caffeine. it's like CRACK, really. That's all I can say.
