View Full Version : Watching Star Wars Trilogy...

I bought it a couple weeks ago, and I'm slowly watching all three of them over again. Watching them has made me realize, these are amazing movies. I'm not a Star Wars fanatic or anything... but the original trilogies acting, mood, look, and tone hold up amazingly well for such an old movie. Watching these movies makes me realize how horrible the acting is in the news ones (and I kinda like the new ones). Crazy good... on to Empire Stirikes Back!

No the old one sucks, with all the crappy effects in 4, like the lovely red under the speeder before mos isley. The new version is hands down better, in fact its so much better tha Lucas didn't even bother to port the classic ones to DVD due to their inferiority.

No no no no! No debating!
How about we just discuss how friken awesome the trilogy is, despite any modifications. The acting, which is something that can't be changed... is awesome. The plot is still engaging. DAMMIT PEOPLE STOP FLAMING!!!

Yes the acting has always been great, but the overall movie looks even better with all the new special effects. In fact I'd say that all the new CG stuff only adds to enhance the acting at make it look even more real!
Come on Scorch lets see what you've got!

Dammit... it's inevitable. So I'll just agree with you. Jabba does look a bit outta place, but not enough for it to offend my moving viewing sensibilities.

You know, its fine and dandy that George wants to release his CGI enhanced version and all... but yes indeed there are people out there like myself who (gasp) prefer the original versions. I just feel that a good chunk of the so-called enhancements look out of place in the films to me, and just utterly distract me even more so than watching the originals - warts and all.
I'm not saying that he's wrong for what he did, but as a fan I would certainly pay a good dollar for an official release of the true original versions on DVD.

1. I'm a giant nerd.
2. I saw all 3 eps (4, 5, 6) in the theaters as a kid.
3. I got the chills watching the trainer for ep 1 for the first time.
4. Empire might be my favorite movie ever.
5. I could care less if the "original" version ever sees the light of day on DVD - honestly, does it matter?

Yes, yes it does. The original is a classic. New edition blows and sucks at the same time.
Lucas should have at least given us the option for both.

I saw your name as the last replied, and I thought to myself "Man I hope he prefers the classic trilogy, because I don't know if I could look at him the same if he didn't." Bless you sir.

> Yes, because the new trilogy didn't introduce a slew of technical problems including an error in the English surround mix, Luke's magically color shifting blue/green lightsaber and Han's force powers of super head dodging.

Just imagine how many households probably would have bought both versions. He certainly could have made his money back and then some.

Why couldn't they have included the original version? In the "new and updated" version 4 (A New Hope), I CRINGE when I watch the Jabba and Han exchange in the hangar on Tatooine. Bad dialogue and you already know what is happening from the Han and Greedo exchange in the cantina. It is a rehash of the cantina conversation. UGH.

I'm glad to have the Trilogy on DVD, but the changes made overall do suck IMO. Some of the effects could've been touched up maybe, (though they were made that way and thus they should stay, you wouldn't CGI North by Northwest or Casablanca). Still there was no reason to add all that other crap, that just looks awkward at times.

I bought them on DVD like everyone else, and realized: I'm over Star Wars.
It was so cool to be into it (along with everyone else) in 1978, but its kinda played to death now....if I never saw it again, well, I'd probably be ok....its just not the cool-fest that I used to think it was 20+ years ago...

I agree with 1 through 4. I would like to see the unedited original version when Han shoots first. That scene was a classic the way it was.

Moral of the story is that the 3 movies are great and the new ones don't come anywhere close to old ones

my take, i'm offended by lucas's changes, but i can live with it. what i can't live with are the shittier newer movies. Episode 3 looks like it's gonna be a sacralige and the armor of Vader shall always be tainted [i hope to all that is holy that i'm wrong]. If I see Lucas walking in the street, i'm gonna knock him down, take his money, and take a dump on his chest. Remember, this my take, so I don't expect many of you to agree with me.
OK, rational thought, i'm displeased with George Lucas and I hope he does not make a mess of Episode 3.

The one thing I really loved about the new SE DVD release was seeing the movies in widescreen for the first time since I saw the SE in the theater.

if you want the original version then go find the VHS tapes... having the originals on DVD would make it look better then it did when it came out, hence it wouldnt be the same at all.

Maybe Lucas will recant on his deathbed and release the originals on DVD or whatever format consumer whores prefer at that time.
