View Full Version : Lack of Intrest (PS2)
I am slowly losing intrest in my PS2...mainly because almost every game seems to be a sequel right now. Not that the games themselves are bad but I feel as if I've been there done that. Anyone else feel the same way? Do you think the next gen consoles will be a breath of fresh air or more of the same?

There is no shame in putting down the controller for a while and doing something else entirely for a while. The games will be more interesting after a time away.

I lost interest in my ps2 several months ago. Next came the Xbox. Now it seems like all I play is the dreamcast and the cube.

My interest in the PS2 hasn't ever really waned. I have a huge PSX backlog that I always fall back on to keep the system busy and Sony seems to have gotten in a nice swing of having at least purchase worthy title a month to keep my interests peaked. My GBA tends to be ignored the most, but that's just because most of the big titles I've played and the next one I want doesn't have a NA release yet (Mother 3). Same with the GameCube, it has more titles that I can pick up and play regardless of story, but it does get old after a while. Thankfully Zelda is only 6 months away...

The only games ive played on my ps2 in the past 5 months are DDR, Monster Hunter and Bloodrayne. I got bored of GTA: SA and Socom. The same has been with my gamecube, if it wasnt for monster hunter I would be bored as hell.

I'm the same way man, I've gone through every console of this gen at least twice...Been there, done that is exactly right...I'm selling my Xbox, had about 60 games, alot of them I got in the CC $5 glitch, I had no desire to really play any of them, all of them are still sealed...Halo 2 didn't really catch me, and Xbox live bores me, I'm sorry, I've tried to get into it, but just can't...So I decided to buy a cube again just to play RE4, and it was worth it, I think I'm just going to stop buying any new games and try to complete RE4, it'll probably take me about 3 months, cus' I just don't have the time or desire to really play a lot anymore...I think once the next gen comes out I'll get real excited again...I feel you're pain though, 99% of the games out now bore the hell out of me

Well, it's hard for me to tell really. I switch between the three systems. Whatever has the game that I want to play on it now. If you are boring of games, there are really only 2 options
1) Just step away for a bit. If nothing is appealing, don't play the PS2 for awhile (or any games maybe). Being away for a little bit will either show you how much you miss gaming, or if you don't, maybe it's best for you to not be playing as much.
2) Try some "different" games. Try games in genre's that you haven't had much interest in. Maybe this will ignite a spark. If your not a fan of RPG's, maybe pop in a Suikoden III or a FFX. If you haven't played any music games, maybe give amplitude a try. Also, maybe try a lowly rated game that looks interesting to you. Sure, others might hate it, but it might be up your alley.
Either one of those, or both in some combination (playing less, and playing different games when you do), might be just what the doctor ordered.

The first games to come out on the next gen will most likely be sequels to the biggest franchises of today. Things like Halo 3, Mario something-or-other, etc.

Yeah, I've kinda lost interest in the PS2 library while I can't look forward to Xbox's library any more. Though, one of the reasons I haven't played my PS2 is because it's been temporarily stationed in my brother's room for a month or two. Once I get it back in the game room, I'll start playing it more. Afterall, I still have Mark of Kri and Jak 2 not finished.

When I get tired of sequels I just go back and play the more original games that I didn't have a previous version of like Ico, Katamari Damacy Beyond Good & Evil (even though it's the GC version... heck maybe taking some time with another system is what you need).
But over all considering I have so many games that I've hardly played more than 5 minutes of I have a very deep well to draw from. I could always just take some time off anyway untill I feel like playing some of these games again though

That happens to me every now and then. I normally stop playing games and read instead for a few weeks.

I have never really "lost intrest" in it. When I got my GC I started playing that a lot for awhile then went back to the PS2. Then I started playing my DC most and then Went back to PS2. Same thing with the Xbox, except that only kept me busy for about 2 weeks because of Ninja Gaiden. PS2 just seems to have the most games that I'm intrested in.

I think it really depends on the game that is currently out. I haven't played my Gamecube for a long, long time. I just recently picked up Resident Evil 4, and that's all I want to play. When Ratchet and Clank UYA came out, that is all I played, and that was when Halo 2 came out! It really depends on the game. I am really looking forward to Kingdom Hearts 2 and God of War (two ps2 exclusives).

Nothing new to report here, but just letting you hear it from yet another fellow gamer. I've been on a tail end of a 3 month x-box kick, but now am starting to play N-64 and Ps2 titles much more (after 2 years off from the n-64 and 8 months from the ps2).
In a dreamcast mood now to after watching several G4 shows on that console. Just ride the wave of apathy against a console but whatever you do ...Don't sell it off!

There are alot of good titles coming out for the PS2 that aren't sequels. Only God of War comes to mind right now though.

I think every gamer has gone through this. I bought around 30 games in a matter of a few months but all of a sudden I didn't want to play video games anymore. I don't know if it was all the eBay shopping or what but I stopped and decided to read Outlaws of the Marsh (the book that Suikoden's 108 stars of destiny is based on).
I know for me, that getting older has made me less enthusiastic about playing games. It just doesn't feel the same as when I was 9 years old playing on the genesis. Whenever my younger cousin comes by I let him play the games and let him enjoy it or we'll choose to play co-op games like Baldur's gate or Dynasty Warriors together.

It happens periodically to me sometimes. At times, I would have the urge to play games and there're times when I don't have any desire at all. I'd say just take a break from gaming and get away for awhlie.

If you sell your game stuff you will probably regret it. Just put it in the closet for awhile and it'll be there when you want it again.

Agreed, unless they're games you just don't like, keep them for later. I'll rotate my interests; play one RPG for 40 hours, get something new, play it straight out, try somethign else, flashback to an old game I never beat, stick in a couple episodes of tv-on-dvd [I just started watching Buffy from the BN.com sale], and start again. Occasionally I'll play a computer game, and once in a while I'll, like, go clean the garage or go outside to look at that burning ball in the sky. Not real often, though. ; )
Variety is the spice of life, as they say.
