I'm sure i missed a thread like this.

I'm not sure which one to get.
What are the pros and cons of each?
Which game is harder?
Which is closer to FF tactics?

Thanks

Disgaea. No question.

I haven't played Disgaea, but I loved La Pucelle. It had an enjoyable storyline, good voice acting (!), multiple endings (at end of chapters), and likeable characters. I am looking to find Disgaea, but it is hard to get at a good price.

If you can get both, then do it. But if you can only get one right now, get Disgaea. It is "Rare" while La Pucelle is not.

For gameplay, I'd vote La Pucelle. I quit Disgaea after about four battles. BUT if you like the Civilization-level micromanagement, you might enjoy Disgaea more than I did.

Both are great games, but Disgaia is on my top ten all-time list. La Pucelle can be gotten dirt cheap these days though so there is always that.

La Pucelle I found to be more fun than Disgaea.

because of the storylines la pucelle is easier to get into.
as has been said, get both if at all possible.

if you get just one, i don't know which to recommend.
personally i would go la pucelle then disgaea, but that's me.

Where does Phantom Brave rate between these two?

You can find La Pucelle pretty cheap now. But defintely do get Disgaea if you can. I have both copies but have yet to play.

Phantom brave is supposed to be more similar to Disgaea.

Personally I'm not fond of the half assed edits they made to La Pucelle, it could have been released without them. I chose to wait till I see it for 20 bucks before I touch it, PB and D I bought both at ot near launch.

Hmmm looks like both seem to be equal.
I guess ill try to get disgaea now and pick up La pucelle later when gamestop has the next buy 2 get 1 free.

I would go with Disgaea. I just liked its story and battles better then La Pucelle.

La Pucelle has more of a storyline & character development. Disgaea is more episodic in nature, with the episodes stringing together to form a very loose storyline. It's good for laughs and giving you a good sense of each character, but I wouldn't say it has much of a story. Final Fantasy Tactics was much harder in gameplay than either of these two titles, and it had a much more disjointed storyline than either.

At a basic gameplay level, I'd say that La Pucelle is easier than Disgaea. The game mechanics are different enough so that someone who has played one can still enjoy the other. Pucelle bears a very slight similarity to Valkeyrie Profile, in that you can send monsters you've coaxed into joining your party to the Netherworld. You can then receive updates on how they're doing over there (this feature doesn't seem to play as large a role here as it did in VP.) That's Pucelle's mini-game, so to speak. Disgaea's main mini-game is much more expansive and concerns item leveling combined with skill improvement for your characters. In comparing the two, you can easily see that Pucelle was made first, and Disgaea was its heftier successor.

La Pucelle has dark portals and miracle chains, Disgaea has geo panels. I prefer Disgaea. You cannot create your own characters in La Pucelle. I think the max characters that you can deploy in La Pucelle is 8, while Disgaea is 10. La Pucelle's music is just too upbeat and happy for my liking. Plus it annoys me how they go into a different screen when you chose to attack enemies. La Pucelle doesn't have new game+, but it doesn't need one like Disgaea does. Anyway, Prier, the main character from La Pucelle, makes a cameo in Disgaea, so that's cool. I've got Disgaea, Phantom Brave, and La Pucelle. That's the order I would rank them. Too bad I don't have Rhapsody to compare...

I have both, but have only played Disgaea. It's tons of fun, and hilarious as well. If you like FFT, you'll almost certainly like Disgaea.

If it makes you feel any better, most people that like the 3 PS2 games don't like Rhapsody - other than being set in the same world, it doesn't have anything in common with them. Personally, I love it because it's very off-beat and unique. It's not every day you get to play a musical RPG, after all. ;) But it is very simplistic, and the cutesy-ness turns off a lot of people. If those 2 things don't sound like negatives to you, then definitely look up a copy.

One thing that im disappointed in is that the new Shining Force isnt going to be a SRPG.
I remember i use to play the hell outa shining force 2. I wish my genesis still worked.

I like to think of La Pucelle as Disgaea Light. It's easier to get into and doesn't require the type of dedication that Disgaea seems to require. If you are a StateWhore(TM), then you will certainly like Disgaea. Personally, I like La Pucelle better b/c it's a less daunting experience.

It's been mentioned that La Pucelle was made before Disgaea (even if it found a US release publisher later), and I feel that you should play LP before Dg (which is, in fact, what I did). Some American magazine reviewers said as much when they finally got to review LP, in that Disgaea's deeper gameplay made it harder to appreciate LP's. In addition, LP might ease you into Nippon Ichi Software's game style better than a full dip in the madness (and a good madness at that) that is Disgaea. Just my experience.
