Yes, but it's much better multiplayer.
You can use either controller or gameboy in 1p mode.

make sure you have 4-players.... it's extra fun in between levels when you vote who's been the most helpful and the most greedy.

I enjoy it very mush as a single player game. The GBA just ads to the coolness factor (like playing basement levels on your gba while the upper level is on the tv. They actually made the controls workable for just one person as well.
Ok cool...for now I will play it single player and then later on you guys can come over and we'll get some multi going :)

In case you don't know, it's $19.99 w/ free shipping from Gamefly right now ... and that includes a GBA link cable! (Gamefly subscribers who rented Four Swords: Did you get a link cable in the mail with the game, or have these been sitting in the boxes waiting for the games to be resold?) It's an amazing deal, esp. since a lot of stores sell the cables for $15 themselves. Every report I've heard about the quality of the used games Gamefly sells has been very positive.

I agree that four cables/four GBAs is lame. Although with two GBAs & cables, you and the other player can still control all four Links, meaning that in the story mode, at least, you can get the gameplay experience of four players. Obviously no good for multiplayer.
I'm hoping the PSP drives the price of non-SP GBAs through the floor.

DOH! I must have missed that deal somehow. I missed out on the ebgames.com deal awhile back too. I actually got it today at EBgames B&M....mainly because they let me trade in about 7 jampacks along with some TRU games and I got the extra $10 for every 3 games. I think after all was said and done I paid about $12 for it. :D

I think it's pretty fun even with one player, much better than FF:CC which requires gba's for more than 1 player too. 4 swords also has a battle mode with additonal areas you can unlock, which is fun , but you need people.

One GBA per player seems steep, but when you really think about it, it's like a cheap version of a network game. Since the whole point is for each person to have their own personal screen, the other option would have been a system link or LAN of some sort. And that would require four GameCubes, four TVs, and four copies of the game to achieve the same experience.

I paid full price for this game. Best game this generation. Worth every penny.

it takes longer to beat with multiplayers. i tried it with my 3 other friends. they just wasting their time not cooperating. there is like a stealth part in the game. its like MGS. some of us got caught in the search light so we have to do all over again. takes time. its much faster to beat that part with single player.
