View Full Version : Is there a good free virus scanning program out there?

I'm thinking it might be a virus. I've got Norton. Simple right? Well, I had to uninstall Norton since there was a problem updating the virus definitions and when I try to reinstall it, I keep getting errors installing the virus checking programs.

Is there some other way I can check and clean out my PC so I can at least try to get Norton back and running? The PC usually hangs at the blue welcome screen or it loads up after that, but all I can see is my wallpaper, no start menu bar and no inputs will be recognized. Also, WMP10 will just freeze and repeat like a broken record on occasion.

Suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Agreed, AVG works excellently, especially now that they've released the new version 7.0

Totally free, integrates with Outlook/Outlook Express, IE, Explorer, etc. and has free automatic updating.

Symantec also has a free online tool you can use via their website.

I've recommended AVG to a few of the people I do work for on the side. In all but one case, it has ended in catastrophe. Wasn't there another free AV program out there that had gained popularity?

I use AntiVir (http://free-av.com/) which is also free for personal use.
