first of all, excellent find! I've always wanted one of thse.

hhmmm, I guess about $100. They probably figured the cost of the xbox system. Then again, they might have just considered it promotional material and given it to you.

You are all at about the right range. I have the reciept for it, so it is my property - Microsoft would have to fight it out with KB (tough luck since they went bankrupt :) ) But Im gonna wait till the auction ends before i reveal the amount (hint: most likely close to the reserve price)

If you got it in Canandaigua, congrats, I didn't even think to look for things like this at any of the out of business KB's. I wouldn't have anywhere to put it and I prefer playing things sitting in front of the TV anyway. I would guess you paid $250.

That's what I was thinking too. It'd be cool to have, but the novelty of standing and playing games would quickly wear thin. Plus, as I stated in my auction thread, I don't even have room for my stuff as it is.

01-30-2005, 01:53 AM
Well, you got the thing home, so maybe it isn't as much of a PITA for you as I would expect, but I would have recommended going with local pickup only.

Also, and I know this will seem like a very minor gripe, but, "Unfortunately, I am requireing the buyer to pay shipping." -- No, it isn't unfortunate, that is just the way it is.

sockz
01-30-2005, 08:57 PM
It is real hard to get an exact quote for shipping. The freight companies need to know where the item is going - and that wont be found out until the auction is over with.

There's one near me also, but it doesn't sell videogames. I'm not sure if that's the case with all the outlet stores or not, but it might save you a trip out there.

HA? and you think because KB closed down means that Microsoft won't hunt you down and take a bite out of you?

Those displays, if it's the good one, have a mighty secret to them....most of them have a speaker system that you would not believe. You have to open up the back to find out though...like wicked awesome.

This is one of those finds that you keep quiet about though.....cause if they sold it to you then it's considered stolen property AND you bought it, both of which are quite illegal.

NAL, but KNOWINGLY receiving stolen property is illegal.

It was KB's property which they sold. KB went bankrupt. If the item was being held by KB, it then would be considered a debt. All debts are gone when u file chap 11. If microsoft wanted it, they would have had to take it during the bankruptcy hearings. The big orange tag was a pain in the ass to take off too - they stuck it right on the glass of the monitor. Oh yeah, and it does have the kick ass sound system - 2, 4 inch woofers inside... I was playing some HALO 2 on it yesterday with the sound up and it was GREAT. Its going to be hard parting with this - now that the reserve has been met :(

02-02-2005, 11:42 PM
What was the reserve price?

GizmoGC
02-03-2005, 04:21 PM
These are not owned by Microsoft. KB Toys purchased them. I have several display units in my house (GBA SP, Dreamcast, Virtual Boy, SNES...)all obtained through my old job (videogame manager) or through stores closing. Generally the store is the one that purchases the system, and the rep (microsfot, nintendo etc) gives them a display unit).

Awesome. Me want one now!

Think about what you're saying. The screen is small and high off the ground, so just about the only way you could comfortably play this thing (without standing on your feel all day) is either sitting on a bar stool or laying on the top bunk of a bunk bed. Certainly, it would be neat to own something like this, but the privilege of doing so probably isn't worth $200-$500 plus freight and shipping.

True, true. I just saw it and thought: wow. But obviously its not practical for traditional gaming use.

Aleryn
02-03-2005, 05:10 PM
Nice find, although I have to agree with some of the previous posters on it not being very practical for everyday use. However, if you had a home-arcade collection and room... this would be the ultimate to put next to your other Arcade cabinets.

Especially if you put emulators of old consoles on the Xbox... it'd be a very nice, loaded unit... that'd mesh perfectly with the other traditional arcade cabinets.
