I was really looking forward to guild wars until I got WoW. Guild Wars still is gonna be great, but I don't think I'll be able to stop the WoW addiction anytime soon. And in regards to cheapassdom, Guild Wars is FREE! I'd reccomended to anyone new to mmo's.

You do point on a monster/ally and click the skill or press the coresponding number for it to attack n heal. I don't know what the battle system is like for EQ an FFXI, I thought in FFXI you select an enemy and your character automatically attacks under you do something...?

I don't know what's off-putting about this system, with all the skills, you need to be able to think what to use when instead of pressing attack over and over. And what IS WoW's battle system like? I never got far into reading the huge praising reviews for this game sorry! I can only take so much gushing....

Guild Wars is very good. Player skill decides who is better and not how long you have played. You still level up and such, but it is done differently. Comes down to whoever understands their characters better.

There are also a ton of skills to learn for your profession. You can only take so many skills into battle. These can be changed up while in town or outpost. Also you can learn other professions' skills for a short duration.

Graphics are top notch. Storyline is pretty good. The ability to combat solo or with buddies is very good. Have not tried PvP yet, but I've heard it is a blast. PvP is done within arena type areas.

Some fansites will have keys to get into the next beta weekend (Feb. 18). Check the Guildwars (http://www.guildwars.com/) site for more info.

I don't understand why there's a comparison between Guild Wars and WoW/EQ. I'd say Guild Wars is more along the lines of PSO. It is not an MMO, not in the true sense of the word. Only the cities, where you equip up & find a team, will be massive. The actual missions will be isolated & limited to a certain number of players.

Don't get me wrong, I don't consider this a bad thing - as much as I love WoW, I still hold PSO as my all-time favorite online game. Maybe GW will replace it, who knows - I've got a preorder down for it, and this will be my first real beta weekend (recently upgraded my system, it wouldn't run it correctly before). I'm definitely looking forward to finding out. :)

I beta tested it for about 2 months (actually I still can, just haven't had the time), awesome MMORPG. The graphics were amazing, it ran smooth, finding people to do quests with was easy and painless, and the maturity level was pretty high and the gameplay was addictive as hell ( i think I played 40 hours in about 3 days). Can't go wrong with this game. It will be on par if not better than WoW in my opinion.

PSO was one of my all time favorites too, so I will definately be keeping an eye out on this one. It might be an enjoyable pick and play game for me and my friends.

I'm suspicious of the word "free" though...not that free is a bad thing! This could also end up like PSO...the initial game is free, but later you have to pay fees for expansions just so you dont end up doing the same couple levels and quests over and over again. Plus sometimes free games tend to attract too many morons for the game to be very fun.

Pretty huge download for this beta event: ~5MB to start up the game, and now I'm 13.4MB and counting when leaving it on the main menu. Like smelling something delicious coming from the kitchen, I can't wait to dig in...

Fired it up Friday morning. Lost 5 hours easy. My new Necromancer/Elementalist is lvl 8 now. Her name is Trinity Mirage. Tried to do all the quests I could find in the beginning area. Think I found most of them. I'll be doing the quests for the Wall this weekend.

Tried that mission out and got waxed very quickly at the end. Just want to break one of the prince's legs to slow him down. :P The mission was pretty easy up to that point. The prince charged in and they wiped us all out in less than a minute. I want to say we missed something.

Mostly explored after that. Did find the foothills area. Was about 100 ft. from it when the 3 headed creatures took me out. Looked like dragons with 3 heads. Did not get a good look for half the Charr army was on my tail. I think they overloaded that area a little to much.

Ok, I am most likely going to break down and buy this when it finally releases. An online MMORPG with no fee, what have I got to lose (other than the original purchase price, of course)? If I don't like the game I don't have to pay a monthly fee for it, and I can probably get rid of it easily either by giving it away or trading.

I'm definately getting interested in how this game is being set up...in the future you can buy new expansions, rather than paying a monthly fee for new content. Now that I think about it, in all honestly I'd rather have a one time fee every 6 months or so for an expansion to new content, than fees every month for the possibility of new content.

And I'll definately be interested in join a CAG clan when it makes retail!

My local Target was selling the pre-order discs for $0.99 so I picked one up.

So if I buy my copy at EB, do I recieve EB's weapon? Or do I recieve the one that's assigned to the "All other retailers"?

I don't think so. I started playing this game on the following system:

Pentium 4, 1.8ghz
512 MB PC 2100 RAM
Geforce 2 (32MB) gfx card
DSL internet connection

And it played very smoothly. Obviously I had it on the lowest gfx settings, but it still looked fine. I have since boosted my RAM to 768MB and got a Geforce 6600GT video card (128MB). The extra effects/anti aliasing makes it a lot prettier, but I had the same amount of fun as before ;). I did notice a little lag while playing a lot with a friend overseas though, so I think you'll probably have the system to play fine, and performance might rest more on others' connections.

Eh, well I used a 533mhz 192mb RAM computer with intergrated graphics and it couldn't run for shit. The characters all looked like they were wearing clothes made of crystal (clear blue color) and when you actually got into the game the characters wouldn't even render so it looked like you were controling nothing and the enviornment's even on the lowest setting lagged the game to high hell. Turning around took literally a good 30 seconds.

So if you still have a vintage computer around it probably won't work too well.

Not bad of a system... but you'll definitely want to upgrade that video card to at LEAST a 5200 or something.
