View Full Version : Can I fix my gamecube without buying a gamebit?

Well, my 2nd gamecube just broke, and here's the problem. Whenever I turn it on, it says that there is no disc in it. I leave it on for 30 minutes, then it reads the disc and I can play the game like normal no problems. It does the same thing everytime I play a game, but it has to warm up. I was wondering if there is a way to fix it without spending 6 bucks on a gamebit.

There is the Bic pen method, but I strongly suggest you don't use that method.

I would just get the bit. You never know when you might need to take apart another Nintendo console. Since Nintendo has used that same bit for everything sinces the SNES its a safe bet they will use it on all future consoles.

do u take care of ur system or did it ever dropped from high place? i wonder how u get those errors. maybe u left teh cover open and the dust went in.

Have you tried cleaning the lense? What exactly are you planning to do once you get it open?

I'm curious as well. I mean, Nintendo isn't perfect, but their products are very well built. I still have all of my Nintendo systems in working order. To have two Gamecubes crap out just seems like you are doing something wrong...

He could have bought them used. There's alot of reasons. I'd get the gamebit. I think I remember seeing in one thread that it's only like $5.

They were both bought new. I take excellent care of my systems and always leave the case closed on top. I doubt the lens is dirty, otherwise it wouldn't be able to read the game at all after 30 min of warming up. My first gamecube is the opposite, it plays for 30 min, then I get the error. I guess I'll just buy a gamebit.

Maybe he has REALLY bad luck. In my experience I've noticed that Gamecubes are far superior to X-Box and PS2 in terms of system quality.

No, all my stuff is first party. I don't know why, but one day it just said no disc. I rarely move the system so it doesn't get banged around, so I have no idea what could have caused it.

Stay away from Bob. He's got bad luck. I don't know what it could be 'cause Nintendo may be a lot of things, but they always have made quality and long-lasting products, personally speaking.

Is it well ventilated; I ruined one cube because I had it inside my entertainment center and totally forget that the intakes and exhaust are on the side of the system (DOH!).

I used a small socket (don't remember the size) to open my N64 for a good cleaning when I first got it. It worked on some of the screws, but the socket was too big to get in the hole for a few of them.

I got both sizes of the gamebit together for $8 plus s&h on ebay. I also found a really cool magnetized triwing screwdriver on ebay as well.

Ive had one gamecube crap out. But I bought a used PS2 and slidecarded the crap out of it. It still works, it just groans when you open it.
