FAQ
Will they take duplicates?
YMMV; Most stores have not and will not take duplicates on the same transaction or even within the same day. Technically, duplicates are not excluded from any promotion, but it is general store policy.
Will they accept demos?
Most Demo/Jampack/Exhibition discs have been removed from this promotion altogether.
How does this credit thing work?
All store credit should be placed on an EB Edge card -- basically a debit card that can be used solely at EB -- unless your EB happens to use the old "keep-your-credit-receipt" method. With the Edge card, your credit can be used at all EB locations and be added to or withdrawn from. Using the old receipt method, your credit should still be usable at all locations, but should be kept in moderate temperature away from the sun to avoid laserjet paper damage.
The deal:
You will receive $10 extra trade-in credit for any two non-sports games you trade.
The ad scan:
http://img164.exs.cx/img164/6128/adscan9sm.gif
The fine print:
**SPORTS GAMES EXCLUDED.
**$10 bonus IN ADDITION to regular trade in credit value. Customers may be responsible for sales tax in some states. Games require boxes and instructions. Exclusions apply. Cannot be combined with any other offer or discount. Offer valid: 01/30/05 - 02/27/05. All dates and prices subject to change. Offer not valid at www.ebgames.com. See sales associate for complete details.
YMMV; "Exclusions apply" might be the single biggest determining factor for this deal. I would like to assume that most stores will abide by the sports title exclusion only, but it is inevitable that some will infer the fine print as excluding all titles on the exclusion list. Also, the definition of a sports game may vary from store to store. Some may only exclude national sports such as football, basketball, or hockey. Other stores may exclude extreme sports such as skating, bmxing, or snowboarding.

You will receive $10 extra trade-in credit for any two non-sports* games you trade..
* YMMV; The definition of a sports game may vary from store to store. Some may only exclude national sports such as football, basketball, or golf. Other stores may exclude extreme sports such as skating, bmxing, or snowboarding.
The story:
As I was getting rid of the last of my sports games -- from the "$10 Extra Trade for ANY 3 Games" -- the manager of my local EB informed me that, starting January 30th, a new "$10 Extra Trade for ANY 2 Games" deal would be introduced, excluding only sports titles.
I was only able to slightly glance at the promotional flyer, since the stack was tucked behind the counter for the next day, but I was able to read that the promotion only required TWO non-sports titles and had no other exclusions.
this might be a nice way to dump off some TRU games i got. THe limit 2 per game. Trade in 2 Soul cal for 6 each 12+ 10 extra total 22... More then i would get for 2 games on ebay....

Good for you, Slidecage. You can do math. You seem to do it in nearly every post. We're proud for you.
Anyways, so this starts tomorrow? $10 extra for any two games? Is there a limit as to how many we can trade in at once (if you got a good enough look on the flier), because I've got some trades here that I could trade in and majorly, majorly profit off of.. wow.. that's nearly a $300 base credit.. woo need to talk to some of these people about this, if this deal is confirmed.

Somehow I seriously doubt they'll take demos. However, there is some great fodder for this green-tagged at TRU, providing it actually is ANY non-sports game.

If its only for non-excluded games, then its not that hot of a deal. I was getting $12.50 for cheap but not excluded games by doing the 2 games plus $25 to buy Mercenaries etc. then returning the purchased game for store credit. Most of the games I traded in were for $2-3 bucks . . . so getting $7 or $8 (for Mafia, Tenchu, Xenosaga is so-so to me).
Turns out that I was screwing with EA because they were sponsoring the promotion with EBGames. So, the bump up in value that I got in late Dec. and January was out of EA's pocket

well, they prefer the conditions to be complete, but if you trade in 4 games, and 3 are complete, and one is disc only, they will probably be OK with that. as for conditions, some stores make a point to NOT check the discs. Other stores will always check the disc so YMMV on that

I did see the flyer . . . it does say "exclusions apply" which is open to interpretation so I bet this will be a bit of a YMMV situation. But if the computer system doesn't recognize the POX games as excluded then it should be easier.
On BF when I did the system and 5 games tradein . . . the flyer didn't mention exclusions but the system excluded POX games and it took a lot of work for me to get the deal to work.

In my area, EBGames has the worst trade-in offers...
They offered less than a dollar for Metroid Prime, while the Gamestop just down the corner offered $7! I don't think this deal will really benefit most people much.. Gamestop and GameRush tend to have better offers.

this is VERY weak. I could have gotten an extra 10 bucks if I'd only waited to trade in now instead of during the trade in any 3 games. But if it says exclusions apply, its only a matter of time before exclusions really do apply. All it takes is a call from EB HQ to tell the stores that they should tell the customers that "Exlcusions apply" means that the excluded games are excluded.
Still, I coulda gotten an extra 10 bucks. Lame. Not cool. Totally Lame.

Jampacks works. I couldn't go to EB today because of Homework, so since my dad was going out anyways, I asked to to trade some things in for me. I gave him 3 Jampacks. I thought the trade in 3 get xtra 10 was still going on. However, the receipt shows this promotion. So basically, I could of just traded in 2 jampacks and gotten 10.50.

It's the $10 split between the two trade-ins, hence an extra $5 on each game. Gamestop does the same thing when they have an extra $10 per X number of games.

Lesse, that, and the jampack I've had sitting here as crap fodder for 2 years! Sweat. Finally got fed up with this Cag/Crack pile of games that build up purely because I feel compelled to buy any game less than 10$ (which then remains shrink wrapped until now, since I never actually have the time to play them), and I cleaned that up today. If the promo doesn't change, there goes 20+ to EB tomorrow.

Consider selling that copy of Culdcept to a CAG. I sold a used copy here for a very good price and I am sure someone here will pay more than what you would get from the EB promotion.

Does the register automatically give the extra $5 or does the employee have to key in something or be aware of it to work? Asking because with the Jampacks, I would be a little embarrased to go in there and asking to make sure they give an extra $5 credit for them, but if it is done automatically, I wouldn't feel so uncomfortable with trying it.

Seeing as three of the titles are basically brand new, I'd have to say all but Battlefront will definitely fetch $25 each. New games that retail for $50 usually drop to half of their value in store credit. Since Battlefront hasn't technically dropped in price, it may still pull in $25, but I'd be more comfortable saying you'll get $15-25 for it.

in theory, yes. but jampacks are $7.99, so it wouldn't be worth the trouble at all, especially considering you'd have to go in-between stores, and you can't trade duplicates.

I will try this at some point today...The trade in 3 games get $10 was good to me. I traded in a bunch of jampacks which I couldn't wait to get rid of. I have never traded into EB before but I might get rid of some games to get enough for Mario Kart DS.
you can always use that credit and put it on a preorder of the game.
so they will take doubles.
it's YMMV. Only dumb employees do this. EB Policy tells us not to take dupes.
Mercenaries, SW-Battlefront,Mechwarrior LoneWolf, and KOTOR 2
Mercenaries was 25 yesterday.
SW is down to about 15.
Mechassault: LW I assume is 22 or 25
KOTOR 2 was 25 yesterday.

If the system scans it and takes it, how can the employee be dumb? Besides, it was the manager who rang my stuff up, doubles and triples and all. Told me now was the time to get rid of "this crap" if you have it :) Side note, only 10 bucks for a ps1 screen for trade it. :x

I just returned from the local EB, and in case it hasn't been confirmed, all three games from the Racing 3pak from Wal-mart worked. I don't have a scanner at home, but I can scan my receipt at work tomorrow if you all would like. The guys at the register told me Tony Hawk games worked in the computer...so it might not be YMMV.

I must share my most miraculous story.
2:50, I am finished classes for the day. I start the drive home.
3:20, I arrive at home, check my mail. 3 Jampacks that videogamer324 sent me.
3:30, I go to my local ebgames. One of the guys there I have grown fond of, he's pretty cool. He told me about the Culdcept drop the day it was posted on CAG... however he woulnd't let me trade in 2 of the jampacks :( A shame.. cuz last time he let me trade in 2 jampacks and Defender for the 10-for-3.
4:00, I go to work.
9:10, I get off work. I drive to another local eb. They just closed. Now the only eb still open is at the mall, the mall closes at 9:30 and it's roughly 20 minutes away. Do I dare? Yes I do.
9:30, I arrive at the mall and they are about to close down the ebgames store but I run in and ask to trade in the 2 jampacks real quick. The guy says ok it'll be $1 credit, to which I respond, "I thought you guys were having a promotion." "Yes but I'm not sure if it'll work, let me try." "Yes please try." "$11" SWEET! I leave a happy boy :)

Well this is sweet for me thus far. I was planning to hit 2 EBs and took 2 sets of the following - BG&E, XIII, Jampack 03 Summer and Winter. I left one set in the car. Asked him if he'd take dupes, he said no prob but not on the same transaction. Traded in for $26, went to the car and got an additional $26. Got my $3 copy of Culdcept and was on my way. Finally got rid of some penny jampacks and free TRU stuff. Still got more to trade tomorrow. This deal is sweet, glad I was too lazy on the 3 for $10.

Try another store or if you want print out the description about the deal from their website and argue with the clerk. Here's what their site says of exluded titles:
No non-sport titles excluded from trade. May not be combined with any other offer or discount. Sport themes not valid in offer: Basketball, Football, Baseball, Hockey, and Wrestling. Trade-in items must be submitted in "2"s to receive bonus dollars. Bonus will not be given to a 7th game.

If anyone is interested, I traded in a bunch of games under this deal and here's the prices I got back (everything is Xbox except Crash for GC which I got for free with the GGC glitch @ BB):
Ghost Recon 2 - $25 + 5 = 30
Ghost Redcon 1 - $2 + 5 = 7
Crash Wrath Cortex - $3 +5 = 8
Alter Echo - $0.75 + $5 = 5.75
Xbox Exhibition Vol 1 $0.25 + 5 = 5.25
Outlaw Volleball = $2 + 5 =7
Megaman Network = $2 + 5 = 7
Metal Gear Substance = 2 + 5 = 7
Total is $77. Now I just need the B2G1 free deal to kick in so I can get RE4, MP2 & KOTOR II

I think he meant Megaman Network Transmission for Gamecube. GBA games don't work.
This deal is amazing. Definitely worth the your time. Today...
Brought in:
Turok (Xbox) $1.57 from TRU
(Xbox) Demo with extra Splinter Cell levels $1.05 from BB a LONG time ago.
2 $0.01 Jampacks
Total Cost to me: $2.64
Total EB Credit: $20.95
:)
I also just bought 8 (4 + 4) jampacks from overstock for $10.15 which will get me $40 in credit. I bought a few xbox turoks from TRU to trade-in as well. This is definitely worth trading some of that garbage stuff you have...or even pick up super cheap games and get some decent credit for them. Trading in 6 gives $30 + whatever each game is worth. I'll probably head to TRU first, check out what $10 - 90% games they have, (Mojo, Mad Maestro) and get those, and trade them in first. Gotta love trading in games that you don't play so easily to get a game you want to play.

Just an FYI for anyone thinking to head to EB first...I've found Gamestop gives much better prices overall when you factor in their "trade 3 get an extra $10" promotion. Reason being many of their trade-in prices are pretty good to begin with. For instance, before any kind of promotion is factored in Gamestop gives the following:
Whiplash XB - $7
Bloodrayne XB - $8
Freekstyle GC - $7
Crash GC - $8
Add in another $3.33 and you're doing pretty well there. Certainly a lot better than the $5.50-$6 you'd get at EB for them after their promotion. However, for a bunch of even older games, the EB deal wins out. This is just an FYI to check Gamestop first before you think the EB deal is a no brainer.
alfonsosoriano

To Pierre, I got this from earlier in this thread, and online:
February VOM: $10 bonus trade-in for 6 non-sport PS2/XB/GC (new) Active: Now - 2/27/2005
Trade-in 6 pre-played PS2/XB/GC non-sport video games and receive $5.00 dollars bonus trade-in value for each game. (Total of $30) Game boxes and instructions are required. No non-sport titles excluded from trade. May not be combined with any other offer or discount. No substitutions will be made. Typographical errors are not the responsibility of EB Games. Offer not valid on EBGames.com. See sales associate for complete details. No rain checks will be issued. Not valid on previous purchases. Sport themes not valid in offer: Basketball, Football, Baseball, Hockey, and Wrestling. Trade-in items must be submitted in "2"s to receive bonus dollars. Bonus will not be given to a 7th game.
So racing is a go, and anything else. I guess Jampacks is YMMV, but if the computer is ringing it in, it must work everywhere.

Jampacks work according to the computer but getting the employees to scan them is another. I was turned down the first time, went to another store and the guy scanned it. My advice: go when it's a younger person working at the counter.
And to the people who plan to trade in 50 or more games, please do it moderately and if you can spread it around to different stores. Just looking out for regular customers who might go in looking for games but only finding shelves full of 10 copies of Turok, etc.

This upcoming sale (B&M) will most likely be a bust because of the insane TRU deal going on. I went in last week there were no turoks, this week there's already 5 copies of it on the shelves. What is this sports trade in deal you speak of?
I just got into the whole working the system thing a few months ago. So I don't know about all of the annual/semi-annual trade ins they have.
There were TONS of sports games at my TRU just a few mins ago.
I got out with a ton of games and traded at EB. Then I checked my receipt at TRU a bit later and they messed up on the Devil May Cry green tags. Asked for a refund to the proper amount and they messed up again and I got extra money back.
So what is this sports trade in?
Also, thanks a go-ba-jillion CAGers. You've saved me a ton of money. Too bad I didn't start working the system earlier. *feels ashamed though*
On a side note. What the hell is EB doing with all these games? What do they want them for? Are they trying to build a giant castle of games? Or a space station? Maybe they just want to recycle the plastic. I donno.

They take in all non-sports games. So basically, the only excluded ones are old Jampacks, most demo disks, and sports games / stuff. Today, I traded in Ejay's Music Thing, Dave Mirra Pro Bmx 2, Quantum Redshift, and Road Trip for the PS2, which is a driving game. Paid around $6 for it all at TRU, and got $20 store credit. Those games are more than qualifying. Heck, they even took my copy of Outlaw Golf: Holiday Golf. :)

Anybody ever try "flipping" games between EB's? I know that many people tried during the GR deals, but some people were having problems of getting caught. Is EB really strict on flipping or do they usually not notice.
btw, flipping is where you would buy some cheap games from EB then turn around and trade them in for more credit than you paid for them. rinse and repeat.
The problem with this is that I would need games less than $5 to actually profit. Even then it would only be a few dollars.

You shouldn't trade in Dragonball Z. Check the list that's on EB's site, if you're games aren't on the list don't trade them in. Maybe if you have 4 or 5 non excluded games (this month EB wants 5) then you can trade in for a new game like Devil May Cry 3, Splinter Cell 3, Kessen 3, Star Fox, etc. And if you need the money just sell the newer game that you trade in for.
Edit: Actually now that I think of it, Budokai should get you $4 credit so it's actually not that big of a difference, so trade it in if you want. :)
If EB sells a game for 9.99 -12.99, you can expect $1-2 in credit. $17.99 games get $4. This is from my own experience.

Some may only exclude national sports such as football, basketball, or hockey. Other stores may exclude extreme sports such as skating, bmxing, or snowboarding.
So what that means is that most extreme sports games would work, like Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2, SX Superstar, etc. Only ones excluded would be Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Hockey, Soccer, Wrestling, and those..
They take in golf, volleyball, and.. maybe tennis. :)
_______
Note: You should settle for the cheap $2.00 - $1.00 games. Primal should come to mind, rated M. And last but not least, remember that EB doesn't take a duplicate of the same game in the same transaction, but you can do for example -
You buy 8 games at TRU. They are Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 (2), Mojo (2), Ejay Clubworld (2), Jak and Dexter, and Primal.
You go to EB.
You would want to divide them in different transactions,
1. Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 + Mojo, Jak and Dexter + Ejay Clubworld (can be on one receipt).
2. Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 + Mojo, Primal + Ejay Clubworld.
You should have 2 receipts, and credit of $40 from buying of about $12 worth of games at TRU.

I made out like a bandit with this deal. Best trade-in values were (after promotion):
Taiko (Game only) - $17
Counterstrike XB - $11
Crash GC - $8
Rayman 3 GC - $8
Tetris Worlds PS2 - $12
Red Faction 2 PS2 - $8
Bloodrayne PS2 - $8
I paid very little for all this stuff, so I was happy :)

Agressive Inline GC - $5.75
Harry Potter GC - $6.50

anyone know if Aggressive Inline, Wreckless, and R:Racing work? I dunno if they consider these sports games or not, and if I open them I can't return them.
Aggressive Inline and R: Racing do work. I just traded them in today.
I traded in a bunch of crap and ended up with about $80 in credit. I put $5 towards the "extra 10% off" deal so I can get 25% off on their website and ended up getting Marvel vs Capcom 2, NBA Street 3, and a cheap XBL replacement headset with the rest of the credit.
Gotta love those EB deals.

i see that some of you guys have several copies of one game. how do u even trade them in to ebgames. don't they prevent you from doing that? i would think you'd probably have to visit several stores to trade in several copies of games.
unless they allow you to mix and match on separate trade-in transactions.
how are some of you getting away with this?

I can't speak for others, but for me pretty much all I found was R:Racing and Primal, so I'm going to trade in 1 set of the two games at 2-3 ebgames, then repeat it tomorrow. Should be pretty painless and I'm hoping to get around 50-60$ in credit.

I had no problem trading in two copies each of a couple of games, but I didn't go overboard.
One thing I did find was that either Spy Hunter PS2 and Mad Maestro PS2 are for some reason excluded, or a max of 6 games can be traded in at once. I traded in 8, and was out of the store before I noticed those two hadn't rung up as promo items. The girl pulled up the transaction, and said she tried again and it still didn't work, so I got the two games back. I'll try again at another EB tomorrow.

I did a transaction of 8 today, no problems either. Didn't have to break it into smaller groups.
Wierd thing happened to me while getting the credit on a edge card. The edge card that they gave me actually had a prior balance on it. Only like 2 bucks and change, but still cool. Wonder how that happens.
Samething here..... Those $3 Rogue Ops have been sitting in the box for a looong time....
Oh, and that $3 Rogue Ops is FINALLY coming in handy.
I'm looking to pad my TRU trades with a few old DVD's. Does anyone have any idea what they give for DVD's (I KNOW they aren't part of the deal - just want to know what kind of base prices they have)? I have been bringing them to Gamerush and pretty much getting $5 for everything (no new releases - just kids stuff or older movies like Thomas the Tank Engine, TMNT and Ghostbusters). Anybody know what DVD's like that would fetch at EB? Do they even accept them for credit? If they're only going to give me $1 I'll save them for Gamerush. If no one knows I'll bring 'em in tomorrow (too late to call now) and let you know.
I was aiming for getting a DS for just the TRU $1-$3 games out of pocket... though I wasn't sure if I quite had enough to cover and then I remembered they sell used DVD's also.
By the way to those wondering if you could do multiples - I have been doing 2 Mojo and 2 Clubworld Ejay with no problem (at two different EB's so far). It's actually much easier than trading at Gamerush even (they have to unwrap everything and ask their manager every time if they can do more than 1 copy at a time).
Just FYI:
Game: TRU price/EB base value:
PS2 Kengo $2/$0.75
XBOX Mojo $1/$1
PS2 Ejay $1/$1
GC Eternal Darkness $3.50/$1.50
Also got PS2 Project Eden at TRU for $1 but haven't traded that in yet.

This seems to be somewhat flaky. I traded in something like 12 or 14 games at once without a problem, except that 3 non-sports games were excluded for some unknown reason. One of them is a game that someone else confirmed they had traded using this deal (Aggressive Inline, though the other poster didn't mention the platform; mine was PS2). I also couldn't get the extra $10 deal on Stretch Panic or Mace Griffin (both on PS2) I didn't try trading them in again with a new transaction however.

The deal is trade in any 2 PS2/XB/GC games get an extra 10. All exclusions apply... no demos, no cheap titles(MGS2, GT3,...). As for duplicates, its all YMMV. In my district, we have been told to not take duplicates.
Cheapy titles or (pox titles) are not excluded...only sports titles

Dang. I may be better off just trading in my two ED's to Gamerush, as they MSRP is 20, and they'll give me like 7-8 for it I think...
1.50 + 1.50 = 3... + 10 would be 13.
If GR gives me 7-8, I'd have more than 13, so, how much do you get for R:Racing Evolution and Universal Studios?
I was thinking about doing this deal, but, for some games it would just be better to go to another place to trade in my TRU games.

Strange experience today at an Ebgames. I had traded in a few xbox demos and VF4's earlier in the day and managed to pickup a bunch more demos and cheap fodder later in the day. Since I didn't want to go back to the same place so soon, I went to another Ebgames nearby. They were cordial but upfront warned me that the demos and the gamesI brought in (a Cabela Dangerous Hunts) probably wouldn't work but were willing to scan them anyway. The guy scanned them in and the total came out as -$4.70... so I guess i would had to have paid them to take them ;). Needless to say, I left and went back to the first place and they cheerfully scanned them in for a cool $31 in credit plus change. Still, I never had a negative total come up before.

I went to EB today with 6 games and the manager said the only way I could get the bonus credit was if I placed a pre-order right then at the store. He said the point of the promotion was to get pre-orders and was not to build up credit as people were doing (it was only my 2nd time trading in at that store and I only traded in 2 games last time).
I tried to argue but he wouldn't do the bonus without me pre-ordering so I took the games back. Anyone else run into this problem?

YoshiFan1, they are lieing to you.
The only problem I ran into goes like this, all the EB Games in the area are telling me that they only take one title at a time, no duplicates.
The night before I found this out, I was able to trade in two Primals. So, tomorrow I'm going to try a Primal and an EQ Adventure.
YoshiFan1

I thought so since the fine print said nothing about pre-ordering but I really wasn't sure what to do. I could have stood there and argued but I didn't think it would do any good so I just left. I might try again when someone else is there but that one manager always seems to be there.
The fine print of the terms online says "See sales associate for complete details. ", so I guess he will just say that is part of the deal that I have to pre-order.

Okay, my mystery solved.
For some reason, Spy Hunter PS2, GH version at least, is NOT part of this deal. Two different EBs, and literally everything else has worked, so that's it. My issue (a couple pages back) was that Mad Maestro and Spy Hunter didn't ring up as part of the deal. I tried again today with several other games, and Maestro worked but Spy Hunter just plain never did. So, beware of that one. Shame that's the one I paid $8 for last year, and not a $1 TRU game I can return.
Two more values:
Red Faction 2 PS2: $2 TRU/$3 at EB (best profit from a TRU game for me)
Road Trip PS2: $1 TRU/0.75 EB
I did some math... my totals:
$35.04 spent at TRU
$134.25 total EB credit from those games
=a cool hundred bucks. Not bad!
Three trips to TRU and three trips to EB, never bought more than one of each game per visit, tried to give other people a chance...

Hey guys, how many of your EB's are taking duplicates, just tell me yes or no. Thanks!
It all depends on who you get. I was talking to an employee at TRU and a kid thought I was asking for information about a game (I was just talking about which were greentags though), so he came over to offer any help, saying that he works at EB (I told him I was just asking about prices). So I took the opportunity and asked him about exclusions and multiples. He said only sports are excluded and that his store does not consider Wrestling titles as sports (he said pretty much only things with a year/date on it were sports). And he said that himself and another big guy who work there will take as many of a game as you can bring in (2, 5, 10, etc.) But he said the manager will only take one copy. So just try and figure out the ins and outs of your store and it's employees.

Lucky punq...I've made $34 so far, I picked up 3 Primal's today though, going to trade it in with Gungrave. Hopefully they take all three Primals. Still gotta get back to my other TRU, and one other.

Any chance of EB taking a couple Price of Persia Sands Of Time PS2 demos?

I got around 50 games total from TRU (roughly $130 spent) on about 4 trips the last few days. Seems like they restocked everyday.
So far I've traded in around 40 in about 3 visits. I'm pretty sure the manager doesn't like me, he gives me the evil eye. <-- like that
They way all the employees are talking about the TRU deals and all the crap that they will be shipping out of their store as they point at this HUGE box overflowing with Mad Maestro's and Clubworld (they don't plan on keeping anything apparently). I suspect them to add their own stipulations to this deal. Luckily my EB is near campus and I go there everday, so for my final 10 games I'll just do 2 a day, cuz I'm sneaky like that.
Overall with around $130 spent at TRU I got the following pre-orders at EB paid in full:
Wrestlemania (Xbox)
Ridge Racer (PSP)
Lumines (PSP)
Wipeout (PSP)
Untold Legends (PSP)
Twisted Metal (PSP)
Madcatz Dancepad (PS2)
Not bad at all.

multiples are not a problem at my EBGames. Demo discs, on the other hand are a different matter...I'll try a different location.

I think it's pretty slim. Maybe if it was released in a plastic case like the jampacks etc.

Could someone tell me what to do with everquest online adventures (leave it wrapped?, open it?, will eb take it as part of this trade?, will they take it if it is open?) it says: "not valid for purchase if opened. Not for resale by prior owner."
Here's what I did with mine.

Do you think eb even takes these games?
They didn't take my EQOA cuz it's "an online game" and of course I wouldn't try trading in nfl 2k3 cuz it's a sports title.

does the system do this deal automaticly? (i.e. if they say it won't work with jampacks could I ask to trade them in anyway and automaticly get the extra $5?)

I will 2nd Spy Hunter PS2 not being part of this deal. I tried trading in the original, non-GH version, and it would absolutely not ring up with the promotion. The cashier tried it with one other game, then 3 other games. Even tried a different register. No go on Spy Hunter. We should compile a list of games that aren't part of the promo.

This is a good post to show some of the fallout that's likely to come from this deal. As the piles and piles of Jampacks accumulate . . . I bet they can deal with the bad games . . . people will buy them for $5 at some point and EB breaks even . . . but a mountain of Jampacks?
We've exploited it so fully, that I wonder if they'll ever run it again . . . I only traded in 4 Jampacks . . . but some of you guys
Then again is it possible, nationwide, have they gotten enough good games during the promo to out weigh the crap we all dropped????

I'm not counting on them doing this again. $10 is a pretty hefty price to be paying out since that can be like 10-20 times as much as the game you trade in is actually worth. I'm just hoping I don't pick up many bad gamse from now on so that trade in stuff isn't really an issue for me.

The Everquest Of PS (whatever it's called, that's what's on the receipt) traded at EB just fine. The cashier said they couldn't take it, because it was online, but I asked her to give it a try. Base price was $1, but it cost $3.30 at TRU, so that was the worst return-on-investment for me.

They took a bunch of primals at my EBgames, manager said, take any extras ;)
Also no problem with jampacks or anything, now I wish I would have picked up more of the 80 cent jam packs at TRU.
I went back today and they were all gone. Good news is that the shelf was restocked with primals and turok hahaha.
Working my way to pay off my psp and hopefully a game.

Mine wouldn't duplicates either, but I'm just gonna make multiple trips in order to get rid of all my Xbox Exibition discs. I'll trade one Exibition with one other game till they're all gone.

Mine took multiples and didn't really care. I'd go for it.
Anyway, I gotta question about the EBGames Edge card. it says there's like a value added sticker you can get. Anyone know anything about that?
Also, I might raid a TRU or my friends' houses to find some games I can get dirt cheap. Then I'll sell em off and make some cash

$5 for a sticker that gets you an extry 10% off preowned stuff. Good for a full year. i think it pretty much stacks with everything and works online, too.

Hmm... well I don't buy used games so it won't do me any good... thanks for the info though...
Anyway, I dug up another 6 games so that means another $30-40. Awesome. I've also got a lot of Dreamcast and PS1 games to get rid of but I don't know if I'll get anything for those. I have a copy of Grandia 1 to sell but I dunno... might get ripped off.

Well I traded like a few of the same game and the manager said to the cashier "don't accept duplications anymore" after he put in my credit. I'm thinking typical.
Anyways the people over there always give me this shady kinda "aura". Ever since this trouble with the PSTwo, the employees been shady to my family. I remember my brother and I walked in and the two employees just stop talking and one of the guys turn to say hi/welcome whatever, but until he saw me he just shut his mouth and they stayed quiet the entire time.
Edit: Oh yea they did accept one of my jampacks =T I don't think that helps. And this was at the MOA EB.

People should be aware of this:
I went to trade in 1 summer 2003 jampack and 1 xbox exhibition demo disc and the cashier at EB said that they don't accept those anymore. I was a little annoyed because that was my first time but I was like "whatever, no big deal" and started to pick up my games and ready to leave when the cashier was like "so how much did you get these at TRU?" I was like "what? oh.. um.. $1 or so"
Then I realized that he knew about the trade-in "scams" going on and asked how he knew. He told me that corporate knows about TRU and CAG or something and now they're going to enforce that they won't accept jampacks or duplicates. Of course, that's a YMMV on the cashier, but you'll never know =/

for those of you who have still wrapped games to trade in, how many unwrap it before you bring it in to trade?
Well, in case anyone is interested, they quoted me $3 for Ghostbusters DVD and $2.60 or something for the Thomas Tank Engine (TV series) DVD that I had with me when I brought 6 more games in today. Since Blockbuster will give me $5 each for those I think I'll save them for Gamerush credit.
I had built up $95 with the TRU games and decided to pick up a PS2 since they finally had them in stock again. Still had to shell out cash for the difference - which felt wrong some how :)
I guess I could have taken my chances and waited until I traded everything in, but my wife is getting annoyed with all the trips to the mall (and how many guys can say that!). I will probably still get the DS for another $50 outlay when it is all said and done. I guess a PS2 and a DS for about $140 (including TRU purchases) isn't too bad.

So how frequently does EB have this promotion?
jngx80
02-13-2005, 11:21 AM
It's pretty infrequent if ever. They'll probably never run this promotion ever again.
Trading a bunch of jampacks is kind of lame since no one ever really buys them, but if EB allows them it's their own fault. As for the other cheap games, people do actually buy them (usually parents with younger kids who don't want to spend more than $10 on a game).
Yesterday I went to trade in 4 games at EB. After the transaction as I was leaving I heard one employee ask the other guy my name. I guess someone must have traded in a bunch of crap there; luckily it was my first time there so it didn't bad about it. So it seems EB and most likely Gamestop also knows about the sale, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised. I traded in six games yesterday including 3 different demos and jampacks and the manager (in a friendly way mind you) made some comment to the cashier along the lines of "that's what they're worried about" but seemed amused and they accepted them without any problems and set the demos aside into a different pile.
I'll try it out later this week, I still a few more demos but fortunately I unloaded almost all of them earlier in anticipation of something like this.

I brought in 12 games yesterday.

Picked up Street 3 and Norrath 2.

for those of you who have still wrapped games to trade in, how many unwrap it before you bring it in to trade?
I've traded in 66 games in the last three days. The only ones that weren't wrapped were some used 'State of Emergency' copies I got from selling a couple of wrestling games that were excluded as sports titles. Turned out that GameDude (store in North Hollywood, not the CAG) was paying $6 for one and $4 for the other and they were selling SOE for $2 each. So even the exclusions contributed to my bounty.
None of the stores cared if the games were wrapped. Several even felt it was a bonus since customers like getting a pre-played game that is actually new.

The only reason they don't move more used Jam Packs is that they grossly overcharge for them. $4.99 is the same price most retailers cut them too new when they're no longer the latest release. In fact, many retailers already have the most current one at $4.99. Which makes me wonder what the margins are on those things.
In any case, EB has no excuse for charging more than $2 for something they acquired for a quarter. An 800% markup is pretty generous.
