Playing RPGS
Ok i got this game from gamefly and sort of fell in love with the game. I been playing it for around the last 9 days or so around 2-5 hours a day (i skipped the last 4 days since i had few other games i rented) But Lets get back to the story... I heard that this game is like 60-80 hours long and I was like COOL when i first started. I heard that DISC 1 was like 20-30 hours and Disc 2 is 30-50 hours long. Well Today at 11am I was able to complete DISC 1 and only took 19 hours into the game. Well i go and plug disc 2 in and start thinking to myself only 20-30 more hours to see the end., Got to the first town and had to flee onto the ship BLah blah blah BOSS BATTLE and got my ass handed to me big time.
Played the boss battle a 2nd and 3rd time and both times once again hand my ass to me. Well i went into gamefaqs to get another walkthough and found out why This is happing. My 3 main fighters are at level 25 with between 44,000 to 51,000 exp each. Well on the Gamefaqs it says that you should be LEVEL 30-31
Thats right im 5-6 Freaking levels too low to fight the boss and the only play you can fight is in the weak ass town before the ship. you need around 122,000 exp to get to level 31 so i would have to double my EXP before im at level 31
I used to play RPG a lot back in the 90s but lost intrest in them when stuff like this happened... Sad i like the game alot but I refuse to spend 2-4 hours in one little town just leveling up to get high enough to fight a boss that isnt even near towards the end..
I would of gave the game a 10+ but now that im stuck i give it a 6. The other bosses should been harder to fight and you should of had to level more then to get to a point were your just stuck

Aren't those just recommended levels though? I remember in Devil May Cry (I know, not an RPG) they recommended certain levels of health and skills and such for certain boss battles and I never had what was recommended but still got through the whole game. Sure it took me a little while on some of them and I got my ass handed to me many times, but I got through it. I guess if your not even making progress with each boss fight, I can see how you'd think it was pointless.

i guess its a bit diff when it comes 2 rpgs and action games... cus rpgs u have a set health, cant really weave around enemies like in action games, and well..have less control in a sense..action games u can freely dodge, exploit weakness and there arent ne turns so u can keep on owning enemies :)

going to take the rest of the day off and maybe come back tonight or tomorrow and try to beat these 3 bosses ... A single boss battle isnt that bad but when theres 3 expect to get killed unless your up there high in levels

Excellent point. I didn't even think of that. Can you tell I haven't played an RPG in a while? :D

Wow, nice timing. I've been playing this game and just fought this very battle last night. I must admit, this is easily the toughest battle so far. I think I'm around 33-35 hours into the game (at work now, so can't check it). All six characters were at level 28 when I started the battle. After I finsihed the battle, I was able to level up each character 2 levels.
I haven't checked gamefaqs to see recommendations, but I used a lot of light and ice attacks. I also focused on taking out Folon first since he was doing the most damage, then Giacomo, and Ayme last since she doesn't do a lot of damage. Good luck!

that particular battle was difficult, my guys were about lvl 27
i agree with the above strategy
the girl does little damage, and giac has a lot of hp so focus on the guy first- remember to pay attention to what their elemental weaknesses are- and dont mix elements on defense either
i always leave the battle results screen on during boss battles

I see that Im at almost the same level as you were and my time is a lot Lower Level 25 Time 20 hours... Im going to try that advice and see if it make the game eaiser... I hated that Mirror Stage i was going around in circles in that for over an hour DOH!!.... Looking at one walkthough it seems the ENDING IS 1 HOUR LONG ? man i better sit aside 90 mins to 2 hours when i start that last boss battle to make sure i get to the end (that is if i keep the game that long)

well the battle took almost 30 mins (maybe cause my level was so low LEVEL 25 ) but I was able to finally beat the 3. What is werid the 2 sidekicks gave me more problems then the major boss. Looking at the walkthough i got it seems there is another battle that is coming up very soon (after the caves) that is almost as hard as the last battle. Im now up to like level 29 and the Recommed level is 32-34 so im still around 3-5 levels short ... I might take some time and build up some levels..
No matter how much i say i hate this game the stupid thing keeps drawing me back in to keep playing it. I havent been this hooked to an RPG since FF 7. IN a way the story that pulls you along in this game reminds me of the same way FF 7 pulled me in (one of these days i would love to go back and replay FF7 but i doubt i will)
im about 23 hours into the game and another one of the walk thoughs (what is complete) shows 31 pages long and im on page 19 so i got around 12-13 pages to go... So far it has taken 2 weeks to get here around and hopefully in another 2-3 weeks i will have beat this stupid game...
Nice thing is its not costing me a cent since i got the free gamefly from mcdonalds :)

This type of situation is my biggest complaint about RPGs. I hate mindless leveling just to beat a certain boss. There's nothing more frustrating than pumping 25 hours into an RPG (small by most standards but still...) just to find out that you need to spend another 5 hours of just leveling in order to beat the final boss. Its so pointless.

This is why it's good to keep a lot of saves. I've always liked how the FF series lets you stack them ten deep. If I find I've painted myself into a corner I can revert to a point before I made the fatal mistake.
OTOH, it's very rare that I get the situation described. I tend to spend a lot of time leveling up in RPGs while doing something else like reading or watching TV. PIP comes in handy for this. A few RPGs like 'Legend of Dragoon' makes this difficult because of the precision button presses needed to make your character fight well but talk radio got me through the leveling for that.

For those lamenting that battle, later on there is some serious battle times:
you fight those 3 clowns, beat them, then talk and fight them immediately afterwards without any pause or save. Even without losing and refighting it took me almost 1.5 hours!!!

FEW Spoliers and stuff like that so know that before reading
I think i like this game as much as FF7. I mean all the plot twist and you got to admit they are giving a lot of story for the cash. What i mean by that is they could very easy Ended the game at the end of disc 1 and make Disc 2 a different game (cough cough HACK part 1-4)
THey could of ended the game right after the LAVA cave where a major plot twist happens ( this twist was as big as the death in FF7 , well maybe not as big but pretty good) the game could of ended right there (what it probally should of)
I found how to get back to the wind cave you got to go back though the castle (took me an hour to figure that out DOH!!!!)
few other topics the 3 on 3 BOSS batlle that i started this post out on gave me major problems i would rank it a 9 out of 10 on hardest but on the walkthough i got the next boss BATTLE In the lAVA CAVE it shows a 8 out of 10 on hardest but I walk right over that boss without any major problems and i was 4 levels below the level they recommed, (was like level 29)
that TWIST after the LAVA cave rocked but all this back tracking now kind of sucks :) I did see the old man with the family tree and so far got like 18 out of 31 people

I usually have the opposite problem. When it comes to RPGs, I get so obsessed over seeing and collecting everything that by the time I get to a boss, I'm usually many levels higher than where I should be, so I beat the boss in just a couple of turns. Combined with an RPG with a high random encounter rate, it can get pretty ridiculous. Man I must have gotten into 2000 random encounters while flying around trying to find the discoveries in Skies of Arcadia. It's a shame, because that game was pretty enjoyable otherwise.

one major thing about this game compair to others is you get to see the monsters so you can side step them. you dont have to fight say 100 imps (like FF 1) just to move to a single town.
one bad thing is though you skip too many of those monster battles and the ones you fight will drag on for 5 mins or more.

I never had a problem with any of the bosses in Baten. They might make a while to defeat but I am not in that big of a rush. I just made sure I had plenty of healing magnus so that I can heal around 1000 hp at any time if I needed to. I don't think I have actually ever died in this game. I think weak ass Lyude died one time but I just revived him with a Scared Wine, Holy Grail or Wasabi Root. Remember the key to beating all the enemies with is combo bonuses.

AHHHHHHHH i wasted 35 hours playing this game and now up to the point where you play against FADROH and KALAS
Good luck beating these cheap ass bosses
FADROH has the stupid ORB OF MAGICAL OFFENCE and if he plays it within the first 5 turns your SCREW. There is no way to beat this %#$#$ boss since they get 2 hits in a row and both hits will do 1000-1400 damange. It took me 2 FREAKING HOURS Resetting the game before i got lucky and beat him with my final dudes hit (I was down to my last person standing and he only had 400 hp left)
NOw to the Son of a #$#$# Kalas
AGAIN 2 hits in a row but the SECOND FREAKING HIT HEALS THE SON OF A ()&(&(&(&#$
im going to go play it again against Kalas but i doubt i will beat them ... Wasted 35 hours getting this far just to give up
EDIT::: Its officall Im going to be returnin the game to GAMEFLY tonight i just played this boss battle for the last 2 hours and got my ASS handed to me 7 times. Seems i dont have the right powers to kill this son of a (#$#

What's the fun in a game if you can beat bosses easily? Sometimes a game takes skill and strategy. Read a FAQ, don't condemn a game for others just because you can't beat a boss. Also you should consider leaving out such a spoiler in your post. If I could beat ***** I'm sure you can too. It took me three times and I managed to win.

yea but it sucks when bosses cheat. I mean come on 8 hit moves back to back that Stun and one of the moves Restores HP. I mean when i had the dude on my team that Move didnt restore their hp. Also they are using more cards then me but I have to shuffle my deck almost twice before they do it once
ALSO letting people know that you will need TONS of exp to get this far cause i would hate to have more people fall in love with this game and then Say I hate this game when they get to this boss and then get so turned off by this game they wont pick up anothe RPG of this type. Ineed to find something that wont stun me then i should get though it .

Ahh.... Folon? Yes, he's the one you need to watch out. Here's my strategy.
No matter what, TAKE OUT FOLON FIRST. He easily does the most damage, also capable to boosting his defense, attack, and is able to stun.
Ayme will try to heal a few times, but she'll soon be out of healing items.
After Folon, it doesn't matter who you go for. Both deal little damage, but since Giacomo does more, I went for him. After about 1/2 of his normal HP, Giacomo will start doing special attacks. Don't worry, they're nothing spectacular, but you will want some good defense.
Once they're out of the way, just totally annihilate the last person. I totally destroyed Ayme when I had the chance. :)
Good luck.

so far havent had any problems after the one boss.

when you go to the alps you have to fight those 3 people once again TWICE and the battle takes an hour or more (took me an hour) BUT it was 100% more easy to kick their butts this time then last (maybe now its cause somehow i leaped over the walkthough Level guide im like level 55 and they were only 50?
if the time keeps up with the walkthough I got around another 20 or so hours to go ..
