So I was invited to last night’s Wizards – Detroit game at the MCI center. I ran home to change into something more appropriate, my Michael Jordan Wizards jersey, and ran back out to meet my group. The seats were awesome - center court, lower level, Row O. We were so close it was like watching live HD TV. (I sat right behind CNN political anchorman Wolf Blitzer.)
About 10 minutes into the game an usher shouted over to me and asked if I was wearing tennis shoes. I replied yes and he asked me to follow him. I thought I was in trouble. I couldn’t understand why wearing a pair of tennis shoes at a basketball game was a bad thing. So I stood up and began walking over towards the usher when he stopped me and said, “Oh I’m sorry, you are wearing a Jordan jersey, I can’t do it.” The usher then walked away and that was when it hit me. I had been chosen to participate in a game time activity but was discriminated against simply because I was wearing a Michael Jordan Wizards jersey. The usher chose some guy a few rows down with a Gilbert Arenas jersey that was WAY TOO SMALL for him. Sure enough, the guy ended up shooting a basket on the floor of the MCI Center and made the shot. I can’t remember what he won. All I could focus on was the fact that wearing a Michael Jordan Wizards jersey is a bad thing at the MCI center.
Un-freakin-believeable.
