In incredible news breaking in the US over the weekend, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has made an application to the Federal Communications Commission requesting easy access to all forms of Internet communication, including Microsoft?s Xbox Live and online PlayStation 2 servers.

Every step you make, every breath you take, I'll be watching you!

Who cares? What could they do that would affect you on XBL.

Not surprising in a country that lets their government impose the Patriot Act on them, fearing that they may be called... *shudder* ... unpatriotic.

Seems unnecessary to me to monitor online gaming. Sure, these games have alot of interaction between players [especially MMO's], but until I hear about some dumbass kid getting kidnapped by some disgusting pedophile that they met over Live! or on the PS2, I'm not buying into the idea that the FBI should have easy, unrestricted access to online gaming. Big Brother needs to give us a breather.

It's a matter of personal privacy, some people don't like having their lives intruded upon by the government.

Well, if your usertag is "ImGonnaShootThePresident", you can expect some hassle...

"What's this game called CounterStrike? It lets people play AS terrorists? IT'S A TERROR TRAINING SIMULATOR! Raise the threat indicator to Chartruse!" -- GW Bush

Exactly. What might seem innocuous to some can be a tool for other, for just that reason. Example: one school I did IT work for had an email server with it's authentication turned off and relay was turned on. Wasn't a big problem, right? Wrong. You could bounce spam off that server and spoof it's origin. The school discovered this and made changes. Two days later, government agents contaced the school and asked them to undo the changes, as a suspected terrorist cell was using their server as an anonymous relay for email.

That's pretty freaky, but then again any call from the government is pretty freaky.

ScrubKing, you come up with the oddest bits of news off the 'net. Do you dig all this up when you should be working?

Hmmm, so as long as you just stick to cussing and being a jackass, which is how it goes still, then they can't do anything? Wait, that's pretty much the only "bad" thing that ppl do on LIVE and other online games, so what's the point of the FBI being on the servers? Is the Al-Quaeda gonna use LIVE to communicate with each other and recruit young, lost teenagers?

Well, no one thought they were gonna ram airplanes into buildings either so anything is possible.

Just one more reason that I can't wait to exercise my right to vote this fall.

It is pretty creepy to think about but honestly they can listen to "You @sshole!", "I need help", "Man you suck" and the other comments I use while playing. The guy with the SN Osamarules better be careful

I have to second that. Leave us alone, bastards!!! (from someone who's never used a PS2 or XB online, no less)

If you can find Seanbaby's article that he wrote about his online gaming experience, give it a read. Hilarious stuff. He was playing SOCOM and he said that most of the chatter was completely stupid, stuff like "Get them!" and "over there!". Dumbasses don't realize that you can't GESTURE in the game....
