View Full Version : Jumping Console Camps...Again?

Two years ago I did a drastic thing and traded my PS2 collection in for a Xbox library. It was a good 2 years. I played some great games and enjoyed Live. However, my time playing these games and online diminished. I still play but not at addictive levels I once am accustomed too. (Two kids will bring your schedule to a crashing halt.)

Well, it's near the time of the changing of the console generations and I am trying to plan for the future, I guess. First off, I preordered the PSP. That was a big contributor in making me ponder another swap.

You need to understand the budget of a hard working young father. I need my games to live longer than the dollar that was used to buy it. I was really not looking into buying a next gen until late 2006 or maybe early 2007. Looks like the next Xbox will be out for quite awhile. Does that mean I am stuck playing past released games once the new console launches? Will my nice library of games be unplayable on the next system? The questions of an OCD victim go on and on. The voices in my head no longer listen when I speak.

As you read early, I preordered a PSP. I then go to thinking; how much will I love and use this PSP? Will it be worthwhile to keep? How much interaction will it have with the PS2? The PS3?
I know I will fully enjoy the PSP, as long as I don't get stuck in that 6 percentile that has a really bad square button.

The only thing that would stop me is online play. It would of been a huge factor last winter when I had dozens of friends on playing hours and hours of Rainbow Six. Now it is the next winter with the uber-hyped Halo2 and I have minimal friends on playing hardly any Halo2 (except the first 3 weeks). My Live friendlist is a ghost town on the weekends.

Wow, what am I writing here? It sounds like rambling of a drunkard. Oh wait it is.

Basically, I'm very close to trading my Xbox gear and 10 games in for a slim PS2 and a smaller library. I don't play alot so what I want to have should be the basics but the necessities.

What are your thoughts on the idea of jumping sides...again.

*The reason I swapped 2 years ago was because I had the first model of PS2s and it was near death. A loud CD spinning noise of death. Plus the DDEs were nonstop.

I never jump sides, I just get the other console. One of the dumbest things I ever did was sell my Saturn and about 30 games I had for it after paying like $250 for the console when I got it. I trade in games on occasion but I'll never sell another system. I always keep the system and pack it up if i don't use it with a dozen or so games I relly liked for the system.

I would easily buy another console. I would of two years ago, but I can't spread my love and time and cash over 2 consoles.

Games get cheap so having more than one console isn't that expensive - especially if you are patient.

I too have made the horrible mistake of getting rid of older consoles, games, etc and I curse the day I did so.

I have to agree that getting rid of one console for another is a bad idea. Too often something will come out for that console you just traded in that will make you regret it. And if you don't regret it now, you likely will in the future.

Well it sounds like your online frenzy is dead so it wouldn't be a scrifice to get rid of the Xbox. Theres nothing good coming out for Xbox for the rest of it's life but PS2 doesnt have anything either (unless you havent played GTA: SA and MGS 3). just wait till your PSP is in your hands then wait till E3 and make a decision. It will be much easier as there is no point to buying another PS2 having it for 6 months and then XB 2 is out.

Listen to Psyclerk on this one.

Let me give you a rundown on how this generation went for me.

- Won a PS2 in a raffle
- Bought a Gamecube from my brother
- Bought an Xbox off ebay
- Freak accident killed all my systems
- Bought a brand new Xbox
- Bought a used Gamecube
- Bought a GBA SP
- Bought a PS2 from my brother
- Sold the PS2
- Sold the GBA SP
- Sold the Gamecube
- Bought a GBA SP
- Xbox broke
- Sold the GBA SP
- Bought a PS2 off ebay
- Bought a GBA
- Bought a brand new Xbox
- Sold the PS2
- Traded the Xbox for a PS2 bundle
- Sold the PS2 on ebay
- Bought an Xbox from Gamestop
- Bought an N-Gage
- Bought a Nintendo DS
- Sold the DS
- Traded the N-Gage for a Gamecube

So now I currently have an Xbox and Gamecube and am really thinking about whether I should get a PSTwo again. I know I'll be buying an N-Gage next week.

So take it from me, please don't sell off your systems because you'll most likely be buying them again.

For hilarious contrast, here's how it went for me:

Bought a GBA
Bought a Gamecube
Got a PS2 for a present
Got an Xbox for a present
Got a DS for a present

OP I to would see if you could pick up another console. Another thing to think about is teh Xbox 2 as it s coming out near the end of this year( Supposedly) So in the next 9 months teh Xbox is going to drop in value... especially if backwards compatibility is promised on the Xbox 2.

Now Grave,

Givent he fact that you seem to keep track what is your estimate investment.? I mean when you bought and sold did you break even, Profit or lose money... Then total that and lets hear a good estimate of a positive or negative investment...

I to picked up my thrid Xbox on Friday.

Oh how I hate those little PStwos... Don't sell of any console, in 10 years you might want to see the console you spent all that time online with.

You mean like my Genesis and SNES that collects dust in the basement.

Everyone on this board and others made good points and all. They will all be taken into consideration but since Xbox has nothing of interest for me in 2005, it looks like its out of here. Selling it to some chump at work for more cash than a trade in at EB.

So, check out my TGN account and see if there are any games you want to trade.

-Anyone wanna trade a 2005 NFL PS2 game for my Xbox NFL 2K5?
-Halo2 for GTA:SA?

I made the mistake of selling my Saturn as well. I got it at launch for full price ($399.99) and sold it a couple years later for like $50. I've regretted that ever since. I have told myself I will never sell another system again.
