Ok,

I found this at another website but I think it is beyond cool. And I quote:

First off, two videos you need to see.
http://sonix.sdv.fr:8080/ramgen/arte/tracks/20040603/immersion.rm
http://216.223.71.42/movie.wmv -same as above in wmv format

I found some sites talking about AR, basically it's been around for a long, long time but nobody is really giving it the attention it deserves. You can use monitors or HMDs (head mounted displays). The main thing behind it is tracking, figuring out where everyone and everything is and so it could use GPS.

The links to Rev. Gyroscopic controllers, the option to connect to a monitor, rumors of cameras and GPS and of course the main thing, a revolution in gaming. The technology has been here since the early 90s, just like video game technology was there way before Nintendo. Nintendo just made things really simple with NES, they could do the same with this. The link below is to a site about an augmented reality workshop that took place in portugal. Someone named Masuyama from Nintendo was a guest. This was back in 2000.

Oh also, SONY has their own labs working on augmented reality.

Here are some links to websites and quotes from them. Maybe if we can look into this more and compare it to the clues regarding revolution.

"How It Works, Put simply, a remote unit with trendy transparent LCD sun glasses, GPS tracking, cellular communications (eg Wireless Internet Connection), Client/Server systems. Convenient, lightweight & COOL! "

"The computer needs to know where you are, what you are doing and what is in the real world," he told New Scientist. "Basically you need really good tracking."

"AR will initially burst into the public eye through consumer electronics gaming products from companies like Sony, Sega and Nintendo"

"Even with the hundred fold advances in processor power, VR either remains at the Nintendo level of consumer usefulness, or stunningly cost prohibitive. As Simon Penny reminds us: "A criticism leveled at computer graphics…was that it was a cold space unable to persuasively represent the natural world."

It was hard to search for before I posted. Merge it if needed.

Some good info on this thread, though I'm still skeptical as to the feasability of this tech in the next gen systems. Good sleuthing.

Yeah, although already posted, this is good research you have tracked down. It just makes it all the more feasible that Nintendo is looking at this for a basis of the Revolution. And what a Revolution it would be.

That video was pretty damn cool with the car on the table.

I was thinking. It would be awesome to have a Worms game that would make the in-game map into your living room.

And all the little worms would be scattered throughout your living room and you could even see yourself and be apart of the map.

Man, the possibilities for this would be endless.

The one thing is that your room would get boring after a while.

That's when you start adding in different props and other things.

I can see it now...

The "Hale Bedroom set"

complete with ...

Or the Final Fantasy Bedroom set....

The Minish Cap bedroom set..

Yeah,.... I've been linking people to that video for over a week now.

They ALL say it has nothing to do with Nintendo.

I feel differently, obviously,... but I'm thinking that if Nintendo is bringing this to the table first,... then $ony is right beside them.

I'd hate to see Nintendo introduce the world to this,... and then $ony release something similar, to win over the PS cronies.

Also,... you're 3rd link is broke.

The third link brings this up in WMP:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another computer, verify that you are connected to the network. If you typed a path, verify that it is correct. If the problem persists, the server might not be available.

Also, I feel this doesn't have anything to do with Nintendo. It would be cool, but Nintendo has nothing to do with it.

That can be done now in numerous PC games with an editor program. No cameras or other accessories needed.

I'm extremely wary of a console company's main product being something that required consumers to fiddle with th alot of peripheral items and think too much about the process. Can you say "market limiter?" Stuff like the Rumble Pak worked well, so well it became integrated as standard in this generation, becuase all you did was plug it in. The only user decision from twas deciding whether or not to turn it off in an options menu, if any.

it just seems like this is way too over the top to be sucessful, i mean you would think the games would have to have a simple design to work in everyones different rooms... and the price, i mean that guy is selling it to buisness men and corporations, doesnt anyone think this will be expensive? in either case ill just still with my too unconvential idea, who wants to take the time to set their room up in a course to drive a car around, or worms or anything for that matter, just make a zelda game with nice environments and ill be more than happy to play that on my television sitting on the couch

Although extremely cool, I don't see how this would work well except for fighting games. If I actually had a room dedicated to that thing it would work great, but most people don't have that kind of room to take advantage of that. Even if they did have the room, most people don't have numerous obstacles placed along their room.

With technology like that... you could play FFTactics on your kitchen table... the possibilities are mind blowing!

I only watched one of the movies, and I think it was pretty cool, but I don't really want something like that to be a major system. I wouldn't mind if it was like the DS: A secondary system, with a main system (like the GBA, or the upcoming GBA 2) being a normal system you hook up to your TV.

Or letstake a spin on your concept and say that a secondary system was sold and that system would I dont know build your game worlds.

Let me explain.

Say you had a handheld camerea of sorts that is small and portable but it would be used solely for gathering info about a room, outside area, store whatever.

You would use it and walka a 360 around the area you wanted to use as you r "Playing" field and it would recod everyhting to import it into your home system to render and use as the games play area.

I mean then the possiblities are endless.

As cool as that is, I would Not want it as my main console. My room is small and boring. Trying to play a game in it would be one short game.

Now if this is just an add-on to the N5 like an EyeToy then that would rock.
It would be really sweet if they tied it into a fighting game. That way you could fight the other chracters as yourself.

What if it recognized everything in your home???

Like, it acknowledged your old Sega Saturn,... and interacted with it.
Allowing you to leach characters out of a physical game???

Or,... sensed you had a shag carpet,... which unlocked a disco mode in your GTA game, on the Revolution???

There is so much to be tapped.

GOD............. I love you Nintendo!!!!
