Opinions don't matter. Post whatever the hell you want.

Reason this thread is pointless:

If you want, include games that are to be released for these consoles within one year's time.

For PS2 you have 2 Square-Enix RPGs and 2 GTAs. I stopped reading there.

Edit: and a game that isn't even out yet, which I just noticed. You suck.

That's my opinion. The whole point of the topic is for other people to give theirs.

To join in on the complaining, where's the Dreamcast?

The Dreamcast wasn't mainstream. Putting the DC would be like putting the Saturn: pointless.

Don't fret fella, seems like there is NEVER a shortage around here telling an OP how stupid his/her topic is, or that its been posted before, or they don't like your sig or whatever......One can ignore them, get tough skin, change your posts, or just laugh (usually I choose the latter).

There's opinion, such as having GTA/square in your top 5 (thats fine...i actually REALLY liked SA and it would be in my PS2 top 5), but not mentioning a system that did sell millions, and was part of the culture for a while (watch some old episodes of MTV cribs) and went on after the N64 was just kind of stupid.

OK, I think I'm going to have to explain what I mean by mainstream. In last gen it was PS vs N64. Current gen was PS@ vs Xbox vx GCN. Who the hell did the DC compete against. It came up during the end of last gen, but before this gen. That's why it died so early. If it lasted 2 years, I think I overshot it.

Actually, the PS competed with the Saturn for the first half of its life, and the N64 with the last half of its life (and it beat both of them).

The DC was indeed a 'tweener-system, and I do believe that its part of the reason why it died early (notice I didn't use the word "failed").

Just because a system comes out between generations doesn't mean that it didn't exist. The Saturn wasn't a 'tweener system either.

Well simply because it had no direct competition is why I believe it failed. When it sells millions in its entire lifespan as opposed to the hundreds of millions it could have done, I believe it failed as a system. A few million consoles in an entire lifespan is a failure IMO (OPINION, MY OPINION NOT EVERYONE ELSES).

What system sells hundreds of millions of units? If you took the total sales of xbox, gc, and n64 worldwide, I don't think it would even reach 100 million.

I think you need to check your numbers. According to this total sales for both ps and ps2 are only at 175 million. The ps 2 alone only has about 75 million.

I wish people would quit using "IMO" as some sort of argument prevention shield. If you're going to post things you know will stir up trouble, don't toss in this "IMO" qualifier and then get irate when people disagree with you. Everything that's not an established fact is an opinion, so you don't need "IMO" - it's redundant and stupid.

Agreed, the amount of bs that's getting posted around here is starting to become ridiculous these days.
