Can anyone think of two directaly competing companies who have equal or similar profits and sales? Coke and Pepsi aren't equal, Coke's more succesful, same with BK and McDonalds. I thought in video game industry Konami and Capcom? Any other ideas?

ATi and NVidia.
those are the only game type companies I can think of that would be close, since they compete for similar contracts with console makers and companies to put into their pre-built machines. ATi has also been gaining ground over the past couple of years

ATI vastly outsells NVidia. ATi spends a lot of effort going after integrated solutions in pre-built systems, something that NVidia has been working on for a while, but not nearly as successfully as ATi. In addition, ATI is handling the graphics in the next-generation console systems, so that puts them even further ahead.
Question to the OP about the Coke/Pepsi thing: I know that Coke (the cola) outsells Pepsi (the cola), but Pepsi also has Mountain Dew, while Coke doesn't have anything side-products nearly that sucessful. I though that when you considered their pop sales overall, they were about equal. Was I wrong in that?

Well, coke has sprite. I thought sprite was the most succesful of all the clear, ginger ale like drinks. Though, if I remember correctly, pepsi is much larger if you count their entire company, they snacks and a bunch of stuff that I can't remember.
edit: pepsi owns doritos, mountain dew, slice, frito-lays, tropicana, ruffles, aquafina, dole, lipton, rold gold pretzels and gatorade.
Coca cola owns fanta, sprite, barq's, fruitopia, minutemade, powerade and dasani

Pepsi also has extremly large shares in Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut.

That's kind of the problem with any sort of comparison of this type with large corporations: they all essentially own each other. I'm willing to bet that if you'd dig deep enough, you'd discover that there's only one actual corporation that owns everything.
