Alrighty, here's my dilemma:

I currently have a Gamecube. I regularly play and enjoy games such as Metroid Prime 2, Baten Kaitos, MarioKart, Mario Power Tennis, MGS: Twin Snakes, etc. My brother has an XBox, and lately I've been feeling deprived of playing the great games he plays, like KOTOR 1 and 2, Ninja Gaiden, Halo 2 on XBox Live, DOA Ultimate, and NFL 2K5.

I think I might want to trade my Gamecube in for an XBox, but I'm afraid I might regret the decision. Aside from the new Zelda, there are really no Gamecube games I'm looking forward to this year, but I know Nintendo will continue to support the system well into 2006, whereas Microsoft will probably focus all efforts on the XBox 2 for when it hits later this year. Also, I fear I'm going to be losing a lot of money trading in my Cube, my Wavebird, and all of my games just to purchase an XBox with only a couple of games.

Fanboy responses aside, what the heck should I do? I can't afford to own both systems, but I just haven't been feeling the Nintendo love lately. Please help.

I don't think you will get much for the cube so just keep it. Besides both the xbox and the cube will be obsolete in a year, why trade all of your games for a system that is being phased out?

I say just keep the cube. Your not gonna get much for it on a trade in.

Xbox has xbox live.

I say stick with GC.. get the XBox when it drops, since it's almost guarenteed MS will drop support on it when XB2 is launched.

Keep the Cube! Wait until later this year when the Xbox drops in price, and pick up all of the good games on the cheap. You (eventually) get the best of both worlds.

Keep the GC, It has many good games that make it worth it. I promise if you trade it in you will miss it. Xbox is ok, but are the games you want for it worth the xbox? Besides cant you just go play your brothers xbox when you want?

Knights of the Old Republic 2, as well as the first KOTOR, is available on the PC now if that makes any difference to you...

If you have any slight hint of regret at just the thought then you will definitely be regretting it after you do it.

Even thou I don't own a cube, I agree with the "keep the cube" ideas. The trade in is not going to be much. And, if you are just willing to be a bit patient, what always happens to the "old" generation system(s) when the new one comes out?

Yep, that's right, they drop in price. Just wait a little while and you will be able to pick up an XBOX "on the cheap" (what better answer could you expect on the CAG forums?...lol).

skip buying 3 new games and buy a used Xbox.
Its only $120 used at my GameStop. And if you look around you might be able to find one for $100. I was able to get my Xbox for $70 used at a pawn shop.

Then rent the games untill you have spending cash to get them. who knows maybe you find some of the games are only good one time around.

Also this xmas the Xbox2 is coming out.

Keep the Cube, you've already missed out on years and years of better gaming on other systems, what's another year?

Never get rid of systems. You'll always regret it. The GCN has a bunch of good games coming out this year. Also, as somebody already said, you won't get much for it anyways.

troll ebay for xbox systems- pick a price point and the games you want

i was able to steal one with gaiden, doa3, orta and a few others for under $130

and as the above have said, if you cant be with the one you want, want the one you're with
they are probably a bunch of great cube games you have yet to try
and those great xbox games will still be great next year (well, maybe not doa ultimate) and cheaper, too

Unfortunately, no. He's a jerk. (j/k) Actually, he lives in the college dorms and the only time I'm able to play it is when I go visit. In other words, not very often.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. As much as I want an XBox, I think I'll at least wait until E3. Maybe there'll be a price drop or something.

One of the more regrettable gaming choices I ever made was unloading all of my TurboGrafx stuff (and we're talking about a lot of stuff) when I got to a point that I thought I was done with it. If I had just boxed it up and held on to it all I'd be happily able to still use it today. What I used the money to buy didn't deliver all that much enjoyment in the near term and a year later I could get the same stuff for half the price.

The Xbox will very likely have a price drop by Xmas and the market for used Xbox units will have to cut their prices accordingly. Also, the hardware isn't what drains your wallet in the long term. Even at CAG prices the games quickly become the greater cost by a long shot unless your interests are extremely narrow.

You should wait to find out if the Xbox 2 is backwards compatible. If it is then you could just get one of those.

Keep the cube and buy an Xbox NOW. You will not get much trade in for the Gamecube. What $45 tops? You may still be able to get a holiday bundle Xbox with Top Spin and NCAA Football 2005. You won't regret getting the Xbox and you won't feel stupid for "giving away" your Xbox.
