CAG E3 Meetup Thursday, 12:30pm Kentia Hall Sports Bar

With only a few months until the big event, I thought it might be a good time to start a thread where we can talk about actually going to the event.

Me and some of my friends have been talking about different ways we could try to get in on a press pass, but I dunno if that's going to happen anymore.

This year's E3 is going to be awesome, and I'd really like to go.

Are any of you guys going to be going?

If we do end up going, we'll probably drive out there and try to find some cheap hotel.

I am trying to come up with a way to go as well. I have worked at GS in the past and may try and get a job there again for a few months, part-time, just to be able to get a pass. I dont know if it would work though...

I live in Oklahoma. It's quite a drive for E3. What day is it?

I would love to be able to go to some sort of electronics show. I'm really excited (like everyone) to hear about the next generation consoles.

I think my brother might, yet again. He goes almost every year, and it's like friggin' Christmas when he comes back, free magazines, demos, shirts, promo items, autographs.. just bags and bags and bags of stuff.. I hope he goes this year, but he's short on funding, so I doubt he will :(

I'm pretty sure it is open to the public, as long as you buy a ticket.

There are a lot of press-only events throughout the expo that everyone else can't get in to.

But for some reason, if it's press-only for the whole event, I do have a Plan B.

Oh yeah, it's May 17th - 20th.

EDIT: You are right, Scorch. Looks like Plan B is in full gear.

I don't think it's open to the public, but if it is, does anyone have any info as to where to buy tickets?

Ya, Im going.
I work at CC and live just an hour or so away from LA so it wont be that long of a drive for me.
I cant wait for this years E3, can't wait to see what everyones got up their sleeves with the new consoles

I think you can buy tickets right from the website www.e3expo.com

Okay, so if you guys are going and since it's not open to the general public, how do you plan on getting in?

Jrunt20x

Well there are a couple of ways you can get it. One get a job in the industry, even working at Gamestop can get you in if you read the requirements. Try and scalp them off someone at the event. Three know someone(like me) or four get on line and hope they don't notice you. Many times it's so long that security doesn't check passes so many times people get in without them.

Have you ever actually been or are you talking out of your ass? They check ID badges as you walk in. Knowing someone in the industry may get you in. Scalping tickets wouldn't work, they use photo IDs. You have to mail your credintials(sp?) to them and they mail you back an ID badge.

I don't know why someone thought it was open to the public, it never has been.

//edit and working at Gamestop more than likely won't get you on the list, it's usually assistant managers and managers that are invited. You're invited to E3, you don't request it..

Well, I figure since I'm in the journalist business I shouldn't have a problem getting in. What will be kinda tricky is getting my brother and other friend in with me.

E3 requests 2 forms of verification. Yuo could always make fake verification for them, I.E. business cards or something to get them in.

I believe on form of verification is a printed publication with your byline in it. I'll just have to get my brother and friend to write an article in the paper before the event.

I'll be there, perhaps I'll see some of you there. You have to qualify to be invited to E3 but if you've been there before it seems you're automatically invited. Tickets can't be purchased. Also badges are constantly being checked, if you're an exhibit hall and you've lost your E3 badge they will ask you to leave immediately.

If any CAGs want to meet up during or after/before hours of the even and grab a bite to eat at Roscoes or something, just drop a PM.

I'm planning on getting a pass from school and going on a raod trip with my roommate since I've heard that their trip would mean we'd miss part of the beginning and ending of E3. So I think we'll be getting a cheap hotel for the weekend and going on our own. I can't wait either.

i dont exactly know what chalking an ID is, but if you are under 18 you cant go. when you check in, they ask for a photo ID and your press stuff, so i doubt you could slip by them
just a heads up i guess

Pretty simple, change 88 to 86 with some chalk on my photo ID. Not hard to do and it doesn't come off easily so they'll think I'm 18, and if you seen my posts, I have the pass covered. I'm not going press, I'm doing industry so I'm covered.

I went in 2001. Never again will I go to E3 when major systems are making their debut. Too many people, not enough games. Wait times are outrageous, and most of the people are rude. I liked getting freebies though. Anyone who is going this year, I'll pay you $50 + shipping for a bagful of E3 goodies (which includes demos and promotional stuff). PM me to make arrangements.

Spiffy. Don't forget ;)

But yeah, if you have patience and connections, go to E3. Just don't expect to get to do any of the fun stuff (like press conferences and keynote speeches). Eat before you go to the show and make sure you're not going to have to go to the bathroom while you're there. Hit the Sony booth early, the Nintendo booth in the middle of the day, and Microsoft right before the show closes for the night. Don't expect the to play any of the best games without waiting for up to and hour. Stay away from the 'booth babes' because people who have never seen a hot girl in person tend to sit and stare at them. Make sure that you get a bag as you walk into the place because you won't be able to go five feet without someone asking if you want free stuff, such as demos, t-shirts, stickers, buttons, dvds, booklets, postcards, toys, accesories, controllers, and I could go on.

Lying about your age could result in two things. 1... you make it in to the place and have a good time. 2... they could have you arrested for possesion of a fake ID. Not worth the risk for what is an overblow arcade where you get free stuff.

I've been to various industry cons before. Just that E3 is gonna be my first video game con so I know what to expect. Thanks for the warnings though. I'm not really worried about the ID thing. I'll be just fine, thanks though. I'll be sure to pick up some good schwag for you.

I have two ways of getting in.

1) I have a friend's friend who works for Bloomberg. Bloomberg was recently bought up by Microsoft. So my friend's friend can easily nab tickets to E3. I would have to pose as a Bloomberg employee, but I wouldn't mind if it gets me in.

2) I work for a video games website. No, not one of those fan-made ones. So having the administrators of the site applying for E3's press list shouldn't be a problem.

If you work for a video game website, it must have a business license. That's one reason why I can't use DCR as a way of getting in.

This will be my sixth E3. It's always a crazy-busy time for me. I rarely have a chance to just check stuff out, what with meetings all three days.

Some people are going to think I'm an ass for saying it, but I am glad security/requirements are tight to get in/get a pass. I'm sure everyone else working in the industry agrees. JRunt makes it sound like it's as easy as sneaking into an R-rated movie, and I think he'll be sorely mistaken. This is a multimillion-dollar event in one of the biggest industries in the world, and they're pretty careful about who can just saunter in.

I love how you people think you can get by with a fake ID. You don't realize the security and scrutiny surrounding this event. It's not like you buy a ticket outside of the venue. They send you an invitation, you respond, they send you your ID badge. If you're not in the industry, you're not getting in.

I am 26 in May and would plan my whole Cali trip around this even if I could get in.... Anyone want to sell 1 or 2 passes? I could provide info before they are requested etc.

Seriously.

But the other side of things us (non associated types) are lucky. We dont have the crowds, busy schedule, no sleep, etc.

Yet we still are able to see a lot of the event with a flood of coverage. Some of the people that go are totally blitzed afterwords.

You can't sell the passes! They're ID badges and whatnot, it's not like tickets where you buy them from ticketmaster or have someone scalping them. This is the third time i've said it. You can't buy tickets or ID's from someone. They invite you, they have a list, you can't order extras.

Alright, that's it, i'm done with the topic.. people can't read/won't believe. Keep trying to get in all you want. You're not going to be able to.

You want to know the best way to get in? Just find a friend who is going. Not a friend's friend, but A friend. Friends with the manager of a local game store? Does he plan on going to E3? No? Is he sending one of his employees? No? He can send you then. Not the most honest way to get in, but a way none the less.

WTF? I go to a technology school that's pretty friendly with some top companies in the industry. We managed to get a bargain with Nintendo for a GC dev kit and are talking with them for a GBA dev kit. The school gets a bunch of passes every year and us students get to sign up to get them and go to E3. They had a sign-up for GDC and E3 is the next big event that they'll be taking students to. Many older students have also gone with our school, so it's not like we're noobs at this whole thing.

Many of us game design students would love to go to talk to the designers and such and learn while we enjoy ourselves. We've had several students get hired for internships and even get jobs at some pretty big studios. We have a pretty nice foot in the industry and deserve to go as much if not more than some of the "game store workers" that get to go. Stop telling people what you think they can and can't do.

Someone under 18 is not getting in. Someone without an actual pass isn't getting in. If you get caught inside the building without your pass, they will have you arrested.

It's not like sneaking into the movies. When I hear people say that kids can get in, I just laugh. It doesn't happen. If you're under age, it's not worth the effort.

I can't wait! This will be my 3rd E3 in a row. My favorite parts of the show are definitely the press conferences and the after parties :cool:

Advice for people out there: try to go press if you can. I know a few of you guys out there have connections and can get a variety of passes (industry, press, regular). If you have a press pass, you don't have to wait in lines and can really enjoy the show without getting stuck behind 100 GameStop/EB employees. Of course, it depends on whether you can cozy up with the PR people, but some companies are really nice to press (Nintendo comes to mind). I've never waited one minute at a Nintendo exhibit. The 1.5 hour wait for the DS last year and the one hour Mario Kart: DD tournament the year before? Went straight to the front :)

Cutting lines really depends on the developer themselves. With a press pass that I got as the guest of a publication, I was able to cut a grand total of one (count 'em, ONE) line, and that was to sample some Gameboy Advance game that I can't even remember. Wearing the thing around my neck only increased the amount of freebies stuffed in my bag.

And to those who got pissy about people saying how you can't get into the show, don't get mad. We weren't trying to be a bunch of killjoys. We were just letting you know that it won't be as easy as you think, and that perhaps you're not giving the guys who check the passes enough credit. The guy in front of me got pulled out of line because he had a small nick in his pass. They double check, or triple check, and they even call it in if it seems shady.

Have you CAGs ever had any kind of 'after-E3-meet-up' in the past?

I'm wavering. It just doesn't hold the attraction it once did. I may do what I did in 2004 again. Just go to the big 3 press events and skip the show floor.

Ok, violent lee. Thanks for the davice. I'll see you there and be sure to punch you in the face. :lol:

Make sure you hit me hard enough so it knocks me out. That might be the only sleep I'll get during that week.

True, any time I go to a convention I never get enough sleep. Mayeb we should punch eachother at the same time! Anyway see you there man! :D

Ok, I hate that this is the thread that brought me out of "lurking" here... But this is something of a "pet peeve" of mine.

Yes, every gamer would love to be able to attend E3. The problem with that, is that those of you plotting on trying to obtain "press" passes make life hell for those of us that actually are working journalists. If you want to go to E3, go for an industry affiliate badge. The PR firm that manges E3 only has a finite amount of resources available to support the media. The last thing they need is for those to be consumned by people "sneaking" into E3.

I have to agree with ViolentLee, I'm glad E3's been tightening security. In fact, I wish they were more stringent with media passes. It'd keep more of the fansites (who should be using affiliate passes) from tying up the press room and related resources.

Remember, like CES, E3 isn't intended to be a "vacation" destination, attraction or fair. It's a working event to bring together retailers, developers, publishers and media.

If you want something similar to E3 that the public is welcome to attend, there's always that "Ultimate Games" expo.

It's a matter of perspective. After doing stuff like this for twenty years the repetition can become wearing. Every year some company makes you sit through a celebration of themselves the brings 'The Triumph of the Will' to mind. Without fail, each of the big three companies (with Microsoft taking the place of the fallen Sega) launch into a interminable line of blather that is better suited to stockholders and the financial press than a roomful of gaming geeks. Without fail, there will be a period about halfway in where everybody is thinking, "I don't give a shaq-fu, just show us whether you have any decent products in the pipe or not!"

Getting into E3 itself is not a problem so long as you're willing to pay for a floor pass and are of age. Getting into the press events is another story. They tend to be very crowded and if you don't have a real reason to be there I wouldn't encourage you to try. You'll be able to watch it on streaming video within 24 hours anyways.

Since I haven't seriously pursued having a venue to perform coverage for this year, I may give it a miss. Not seeing it firsthand and getting the occasional complimentary items will be a bit of a letdown but I've had my share over the years.

Of course I'm still around. I've been lurking here for quite awhile now, I just tend to stay in the background. :wink:

No, I don't mind at all. I write for About.com (newly acquired by the NYT), covering PC hardware and peripherals. So, essentially that means instead of being able to attend one major convention each year, I have to do two -- CES and E3. If only the hardware manufacturers would settle on one trade show... It'd certainly make my life a little easier. :lol:

Oh, and epobirs is right. After the first day, E3 really does lose a lot of its allure. You have to remember, for the media at least, E3's another 3-4 days of work rather than a chance to enjoy the show. We'll be there from the 18th - 20th, (the ESA's "state of the industry" address the day before's incredibly dull the first time around) and my time's already mostly committed between meetings with PR reps and various teams, not to mention the endless press conferences which are mostly fluff.

Sure, the parties in the evening can be kinda fun, but honestly, it's still work more than anything. And after an early morning, long day and the pressure of meeting daily deadlines for filing stories, personally I'd rather crash in the hotel, given the choice.

So...There you have it; the dirty truth about E3 from the eyes of a working journalist.

Yeah, I totally agree. But some people do have legitimate access to media and industry passes, so my advice is directed towards them. To everybody else who wants to sneak in, shame on you!

And yeah, E3 is a week of hell for journalists. We have to run around from the end of one hall to the other to make appointments and meetings, and we do this all day long. Not to mention that E3 is basically just a week long networking session. I hand out hundreds of business cards and shake hundreds of hands.

Open to the public, 30 bucks gets you in cheap for 3 days, and it's a huge thing. It's in Bellvue, Washington.

It's awesome that so many CAG'ers are getting accepted. You guys should definately meet up and take pictures/video. From the video i've seen of show floor, it looks like a madhouse.. just tons and tons of people, lots of freebies.. I remember when my brother went a few years back, someone handed him a Voodoo pin.. as in the type you pin on your shirt. He was in line and a Voodoo exec randomly came up to him and told him he'd won a brand new video card (which was hundreds back then, dirt cheap now obviously).. I called BS on this story, but sure enough, a few weeks later, he received a top of the line card in the mail.. so wear anything you're given, even if you think it might make you look like a total tool.

And get tons of free stuff for random giveouts on CAG the day after you guys get back!

My sister knew the guy who designed & Built the nintendo booth in 04 so that's how I got in last year. To tell you the truth it is a cool place to be, but it's not the greatest thing in the world. I saw at least 6 people get thrown out for fake badges.

It was kinda strange people asking me for a busness card when I have like zero to do with the industry.

I would like to attend this years but I doubt I'll be lucky again. If you can't go your not missing that much. Vegas is Way better then E3.

And It'd be the coolest if we could get all the Cags in LA that week some place to booze it up.

nVidia does that every year. If you collect stamps and get a tshirt, a nVidia rep randomly picks someone during the show who's wearing the shirt and they get a top of the line video card.

I'll be too busy to join in any CAG activities, but something you guys can also think about is watching Star Wars: Episode III (it comes out that same week)

I should be going again this year ^_^

I went last year and had a blast, now i think i know a little bit better about when to go where and what to bring (the LA convention center is HUGE). For anyone thinking of 'sneaking' their way in as press instead of industry, i'd advice you skip out on it, as the previous poster said, there are only so many of those press passes, and it's probably better if they go to the right people~ besides, since there are less of them your application is more likely to be turned down anyway, and who would want to risk that, right? I for one didn't notice too much of a difference between the treatment of press and industry badge holders, if you really want in on something, wait around for it, the pass is free anyway, so you're not loosing anything =P

Awesome experience, last year i made out with tons of free stuff, a bed full of t-shirts, and best of all i got into the WoW Beta!! ^_^
(I don't suggest all of that was due to the fact that i'm a girl, and that sometimes has a booth-babe-esque effect on some of the male exhibitors, but i *Was* fortunate enough to chat with a female Lineage II employee, who was nice enough to hook me up with a *gasp* non-XXL t-shirt, lol, she got my plight).

on a CAG level, i live allllll the way on the east coast, and managed to work out my flight and hotel costs down to ~$350. not a bad deal at all! that is until i missed my flight home and had to pay made amounts of extra money...LAX is a lovely airport to sleep in, heh..heh... ^_^;;;

If you think the LA Convention Center is huge you must not have done CES. Better yet, CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. The Hannover Messe is immense. Building 1 is almost as big as the LA CC and that is just one of 36 permanent buildings at the site. The whole place is as big as Disneyland.

CeBIT makes shows like Comdex look highly focused. We used to make a point of avoiding Building 18 at all costs because it's just for banking systems. If you accidentally wandered in there was a risk of being bombarded by boredom rays that would make you pass out. There was no telling what might become of you then.

I second that about CES. That shizzy is HUGE. They have a hall almost entirely devoted to car audio, which is about as big as one of the 3 main E3 halls. It was even bigger this year, what with all the tent booths outside.

Hell yes.

The LVCC is unbelievable. You'd think with only two halls, it'd be easy enough to get around, but....Just the sheer size of North hall and South hall dwarf Staples. Not to mention the things spread all over the city, what with some out at the Sands, the Alexa business center, etc.

By Sunday afternoon, I was starting to wonder if my feet were actually going to drop off. In fact, I think the majority of my Sunday was spent camped out in the press lounge in South hall. Such comfortable, comfortable couches....

Have you tried looking at the website?

bump, for like the tenth time. i have a question for those of you have been before - would it be super-tacky for me to wear a t-shirt advertising my website, or do lots of people do it?

also, if we're going to organize a CAG meetup there, we should do it now...

Some people do that, but it's pretty laughable. Unless maybe if the website you work for is an actual media company, then maybe the administration might require to wear company shirts.

I wore a CAG shirt every day last year (not the same one ;) ), its a non-issue.
Now that I got a media pass, I may try to be a bit more highbrow, but probably not.

Regarding the CAG meetup...
I think we should try to eat lunch at the food court thingy together.
IIRC, there are really no places to eat right near the convention center.

I have a question as well...
I received a Media Pass. Do you set up appointments now or at the show?

you should start receiving a flood of e-mails soon from every damn company on earth wanting to set up an appointment. i've only set up four, out of a possible seventy or so. as far as i can tell you do it beforehand, otherwise you just use your press pass to get to the front of the line at the show :-P

You may have opted out. I think you can opt back in from the E3 expo site. I told them to send me info about products but not about exhibitor information (if I wanted to be an exhibitor). I've received some emails, and I may set up a couple appointments to check stuff out. So far a lot of the stuff I've received is from smaller companies that I haven't really heard of.

Maybe it's an early morning thing, but I'm feeling generous in revealing the easiest way I've learned in getting a media badge. I've done the following in the off-years when I was working freelance (as opposed to the times I was reviewing games full-time):

1. Go Tuesday late afternoon when the register bunnies aren't stressed out and there aren't any lines.
2. Present your ID, a print out of a game review you've done online (even if it's a blog, but be sure to have it feature the cover or screen shots of the game) and make sure it features your name credited.
3. More importantly, have a photocopy of a business license, preferably one from your buddy's game/record/comic store. It could be other types of stores, just as long as it isn't anything obvious like a 7-Eleven or Ace Hardware.
4. Get your media registration.

I've done this 3 times since E3 started, the last being last year. I've had zero trouble.

How does one go about getting invited to those?
Do you need to be invited, or can you just show up if you have a Media Badge?

I am particularly interested in the Nintendo conference, since that is likely the only one I could attend.

You need to be invited.

I have been reading through different gaming forums, and asking about various events. If someone gets invited to an event you want to go to, ask them if the invitation has a point of contact on it like a media relations person. If you get the info on the media relations person, you can contact them and ask for an invite. So far I have been invited to the XBOX event, and Nintendo Press Conference, by contacting media relations people.

Now I am trying to get info on the Sony Party and Nintendo Party.

Picked up my badge today between classes and it's pretty nice. Though I notice I still have to get a badge holder at the LACC to get in. Shouldn't be much of a hassle, though I'd think that there could be long lines early on.

well you can do the cool thing and get a bunch of random friends and just run at the doors...some will get caught but some will get by and the security will not leave there post to get you cause that would allow more sneaking in.....thats how you can get in pretty much anywere for free, movies and the such. just gotta have idiots for friends like i do.

Depends on the swag. The most I can guarantee you without gaining access to the show would be a blowjob. I have not tested the product myself, but by all accounts, it is an enjoyable adventure, though it may not be worthy of a purchase due to the fact that it's sloppy and doesn't last long.

Your so lucky Lord Reese, you get to go to those press events. I know they give out some pretty swell swag sometimes. Especially this year should be even better, with all these new stuff coming out. But to be just there when they introduce the new consoles...priceless...well almost priceless, unless they actually give you one.

This list is updated daily, sorry it doesn't have points of contact. Your best bet is contacting the company and asking for the media relations person. Tell them you will be attending E3 and would like to attend their event.

As for my sister, I'll try to find a pic. Shouldn't be too tough.

But seriously, does anyone know a way I could get in to E3 besides rushing the doors? I'm 5'8", 127 pounds or so, so I doubt I'd make it. Maybe Cheapy could make me an honorary CAg representative for the day? ;););););)

I noticed Kentia Hall soon after entering the building. I believe it's down the stairs to the left after you enter, Iw ant to say heading towards the south wing.

In other news, I just got back from E3 a short time ago. Once I get something to eat (first meal of the day) and upload the pics, I'll post links along with a brief synopsis of my experience. Most of it can't be put into words. It was an even better experience than the greatness that was WrestleMania 21.

I'd like to post a pic, but I can't find one on my computer, and the damn digicam pics won't upload. I borrowed a friend's cam and can't get the upload devcie to work properly.

I can tell you that I will be wearing a shiny red button up shirt with black dragons on it, along with black jeans. I'm about 5'8", white, with dark brown spiked hair. I don't know what any of you look like except Cheapy, so please, say hi.

With that said, here's my truncated E3 Day 1 report, copied from my 1up.com blog post due to laziness and the fact that I need to sleep... if Forza will let me.
---------------------------

E3's first day was an overwhelming experience. I was there from 11 AM-5 PM and never stopped having fun. I thought WrestleMania 21 was great, but this topped it.

It was a literal gaming paradise. Almost everything I could possibly imagine was there. However, there were more than a few titles that I was interested in which were only shown in video form.

I got to meet the almighty Seanbaby and Dan Hsu from EGM and got pictures with them. I also had pics taken of me with various booth babes, as well as a variety of shots of different displays. In total, I ended up with I believe 47 shots from Day 1 of E3.

As far as swag, I only ended up with the official E3 Day 1 guide, 6-7 different magazines, a few coasters thrown out during Namco's Katamari presentation, and a shirt featuring the new True Crime game, which is an XL and is thus 3 sizes too big for me. Oh yeah, I got a card with my picture (taken in front of the 1up.com backdrop) and name from, you guessed it, 1up.com, and I got a "I <3 1up.com" necklace that lights up and flashes blue.

Games that I remember playing:

* Sigma Star Saga (GBA)
* Soul Calibur III (PS2)
* We Love Katamari (PS2)
* Destroy All Humans! (PS2)
* Burnout Revenge (PS2)
* Madden NFL 2006 (Xbox)
* NCAA Football 2006 (Xbox)
* Gunstar Super Heroes (GBA)
* Yoshi's Topsy Turvy (GBA)
* Sonic something or other (DS)
* Shadow the Hedgehog (PS2)
* Donkey Kong Country 3 (GBA)
* DDR Ultramix 3 (Xbox)
* DDR Extreme 2 (PS2)
* DDR Mario Mix (GameCube)
* Phantasy Star Universe (PS2)
* Area 51 (PS2)
* Fable: The Lost Chapters
* Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi (Xbox)
* Conker: Live and Reloaded (Xbox)
* InuYasha fighting game (PS2)
* Rainbow Six: Lockdown (PS2)

I know there were more, but I can't remember right now. I'm too tired. A lot of the games that I didn't play, I did watch others play. I didn't want to spend too much time in any one area, and I pretty much covered the whole building.

I plan on spending a lot of time tomorrow waiting in line to play all that stuff at the Nintendo booth that I missed out on, as well as some Xbox 360. I'll also be checking out the Tony Hawk demonstration and I'll be lining up for the autograph sessions with Edge and Stacy Keibler of WWE.

E3's first day was incredible, and I can't wait to go back for the next two. The guy who hooked me up with the pass offered to register me for next year, so hopefully this will become an annual tradition.

Just to let you know, this piece of shit digital camera software won't let me upload, so unfortunately, I won't be able to post pictures until at least tomorrow. I've spent 2 hours fussing with it already tonight. Sorry about that.

I'll be back tomorrow with another update and, hopefully, pictures from both days.

Also, on the Kentia Hall map, there is only a sports bar. Are we meeting there?

Also, my badge says "Tyler Layne", but I can't get into specifics on that. I, too, have a scruffy beard like rocksolid, and I'm with you on the area to meet.

I would've just edited my last post, but the edit button's not showing up. Fucking FireFox.

Wear the DOA get-up. That will catch our eyes. ;)

I just realized that WWE Superstar Edge is signing autographs tomorrow in THQ's booth, and I think it may be at 1:00. If so, I'll probably have to skip out early. He's a favorite of mine, and I want to get my copy of his book signed.

Would any CAGs want to meet up later in the day or sometime on Friday (in addition to tomorrow)? That'd give us a chance to converse some more, and if the signing is indeed at 1:00, it'll give me an opportunity to spend more time with you than the 15-20 minutes I'd have if I left shortly before 1 to head over to the THQ booth.

Sports bar would be better alright, if some event like what Matt Young was talking about is scheduled at that time I might not be able to make it or have to cut it short. You can't miss me anyways, I'll be the asian guy wearing the white Jones Soda Co. t-shirt and blue jeans.

If the autograph signing is indeed at 1:00, I will be at the sports bar earlier (say 12:00-12:15 depending on how long it takes me to get there) in case anyone wants to meet up early. Just say hi if you see me. I described what I'm wearing earlier.

Alright, so through various sources, I know who 4 of the people in the picture are (Rock, Cheapy, BigDirty, and Tauruskatt). But who is everyone else in the picture. Maybe you should put their names, as long as its cool with them, under their pics. Just a thought.

Now I'm sad I wasn't able to make it, I guess I'll try next year if this meet up happens again.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it, guys. After being informed that the line to meet the X-Play hosts was closed when I came in, I feared missing out on WWE's Edge and wanted to be there early. I showed up at the sports bar at 1:30, not expecting any of you to still be around but hoping you would be. Of course, you had all dispersed by then.

My logic was this- Edge would be there today only, while you guys would probably be there tomorrow. I'd love to meet Cheapy, Rock, Taurus, or any of the rest of you. if anyone wants to meet up tomorrow, just call me on my cell: 951-966-2424.

Anyway, on to my Day 2 E3 experience, copied from my recent MySpace/1Up.com blog post.

My report on day 2 of E3 may be short because I am tired and there wasn't a whole lot that I saw or took part in since I spent a fair amount of time standing in lines. I still had a wonderful day, but it probably wouldn't translate into quality reading material since most of you probably want to hear about the games.

When I got in the door a little after 10 AM, Adam Sessler and my beloved Morgan Webb were signing autographs in the newly set up G4 booth on my left. Now, I wouldn't say I'm obsessed with Morgan Webb. I do have a picture from her Maxim spread as my computer background, but I'm not like that dude in the X-Play commercial. I have no Morgan shrine. I do, however, find her to be ridiculously beautiful and I want to marry her and make lots of babies, provided that pregnancy does not completely tarnish her stunning figure.

*Sighs longingly* Back to the story... I was informed by a G4 employee that the autograph line was cut off due to them not being able to fit in anymore people in the 1 hour time frame. That made me sad. However, Morgan and Adam will be signing tomorrow, so I'll make sure to get in line early. I did get a picture from the side of the table, though, and it looks very good.

From there, I went up the Zelda steps into whatever the hell that huge central area is called. I roamed around a bit and checked out the few new additions such as the Chronicles of Narnia exhibit which featured beatiful artwork and costumes used in the movie. I played a small portion of the Narnia game, but I couldn't figure out how to beat the boss I was fighting and I gave up. Next to that display was a HUGE model of Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas, so of course I had to snap a shot of that one. There was also a cool looking display for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 3, and I photographed that along with the dude decked out in soldier gear "guarding" the front.

I walked around some and took a few more pictures of random displays and booth babes, as well as some cool Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children action figures for Anya. I went to the Casino-styled booth for the game "Colors", and while the booth babes had to leave to go on stage, I did snag a free t-shirt.

I then had an over-excited Japanese man take a picture of me with Spongebob Squarepants, which totally rocked.

WWE Diva Stacy Keibler was set to sign autographs at noon. I was more intered in meeting fellow WWE star Edge, of whom I've been a fan since he was wrestling as Sexton Hardcastle in the Canadian independents. I got in line, and I ended up meeting Stacy. They were rushing people through the line, so everyone got a simple, "Hello/Thank you" and an autographed photo. Whatever.

I got in line for Edge, around 12:30, half an hour before he was set to sign. I spent a while talking about wrestling and Star Wars: Episode III with some folks from Boston before an usher informed us that, due to her arriving late and Edge not showing up yet, Stacy would pose for quick pictures with people. Of course, I had to get one of those.

After the photo-op, I circled the THQ booth in order to reclaim my place in line to meet Adam Copeland, AKA Edge. On the way back, I heard a familiar voice behind me. I turned around... and there was Edge with a couple escorts! I greeted him and he responded, and I walked down the hallway next to him, although he was talking over something with his guys.

Once I got in there and got to shake Edge's hand, he was very friendly. A true class act toward the fans, regardless of his treatment of his friends. I got to shake the hand that fingered Lita. Now I've got herpes. Thanks, Adam. Just kidding. He signed and personalized my copy of his autobiography and threw in a signed photo on top of that. We posed for a pic, and I look like crap because my eyes were closed. The reason why is because Edge made me laugh. Here's how it went down:

Edge: "You know, now I can tell all the boys on Monday that I got to meet a TV star at E3."

Me: "What do you mean?"

Edge: "Hasn't anyone ever told you that you bear a striking resemblance to Bud Bundy?"

So I guess that makes it official, since Edge said it. I do look like Bud Bundy from Married With Children.

After meeting Edge, I headed outside to make my daily E3 report call to my cousin and have myself a smoke. A black guy asked me for a cigarette, and when I went to hand him a Newport, he remarked, "Aww shit, man! Newports! Man, what you white folks know about Newports?!" I get that a lot from black guys. I don't know why they're so surprised in my choice of tobacco products, but at least they share my good taste.

I headed back inside and explored Microsoft's booth some more, and I played a couple games of NBA and NCAA Basketball 2K6, winning both. Afterwards, while perusing Capcom's booth, waiting to try out Killer 7, a countdown clock next to some zombies caught my eye. When it reached zero, a video for the upcoming title Dead Rising aired. That game looks awesome! It started out seeming like another Resident Evil clone, but the main character engaged in combat with massive hordes of zombies inside a store, and had tons of creative methods with which to dispose of them. He utilized a head splattering bulldog (the wrestling maneuver, not the animal), a chainsaw, tossed a mannequine, and even ran over zombies with a lawnmower! I am so buying that game.

Following that, I decided to go check out Nintendo's booth, but on the way there, I stopped by the Ziff Davis/1UP.com area. I never made it to the big N's booth after that. I was greeted by a gorgeous blonde girl named Amber, who just happened to be a member of the PMS clan for Halo 2. I, on the other hand, am a new member of KSI, PMS' arch rivals. I could care less about some stupid rivalry, so I talked with Amber on a variety of subjects and posed for a couple pics. She's a wonderful girl- beautiful, intelligent, sophisticated, and apparently damn good at video games. Her husband's a lucky guy. Amber introduced me to paul Gale, 1UP.com message board moderator, and he was really cool. Very nice guy.

Around 4:30, the 1Up.com Members Only party started in their booth. They handed out free smoothies and cake. The cake was delicious, and had the 1UP logo on it, and I got a few shots. I was also in the picture of the cake taken by the site, and I had a segment filmed for possible inclusion on 1UP.com, asking what I liked best about the site.

I had to bail out around 5:00 to catch the Metrolink, so I was unable to try out those Nintendo games. The only ones left that I still need to check out are Killer 7, Mario Baseball, Mario Super Strike (Soccer), and of course, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, one of my most anticipated games ever. It's just that the wait time in line is often 2 hours, and I had spent enough time in line already. I'll play it tomorrow, and get the free game logo t-shirt that Nintendo gives out to those who play. Between that and trying to meet the X-Play hosts, I'll be spending a few hours in line, it seems.

Overall, not much game playing, but still a wonderful day by far. So wonderful, in fact, that this writing which I had intended to be brief ended up probably being longer than my day 1 post.

Picture update- I took 38 more pictures for a total of 86, but neither of the computers at my house will recognize the digital camera I borrowed from my friend Lisa. I transfered my images from the capture card onto her computer, and she's supposedly uploding them to Yahoo Photos for me tonight, but they're not ready yet and I'm headed for bed. I will post them tomorrow, I can 99% guarantee you. At the latest, there might be a huge post of all 3 days' pictures this weekend.

Well folks, that's all for day 2 of E3. It's 12:30 AM and I have to be up in 6 hours. I'll be back tomorrow with coverage of my experience at the final day of E3.

I was interested in going to E3 and I find the thread too late. :lol: I'll just have to go to E3 2006 by any means necessary. :D LA is only a 6 hour drive from where I live.

I ran into another CAG shirt wearer...Spek (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/member.php?u=4307). I think it was on Thursday.

I think next year we should look into having a little Cheap Ass Convention the Monday and/or Tuesday before E3.

I think Spek is the guy I encountered while walking to the LACC from the Metrolink platform on Friday. I can't remember the guy's username for sure, but he said he only really checks out the deals and doesn't post much in the other forums.

I kept an eye out for you, Cheapy. I figured you'd stand out in the crowd. I didn't see you, though. :(

Be sure to check out my thread in this forum with 90 or so great pictures, including Shigeru Miyamoto in the Sony booth!
