It's Official: Classic NES Series
All of the details on Nintendo's upcoming retro packs!

March 26, 2004 - It's been rumored and speculated on for weeks, but today Nintendo has exclusively revealed to us the details on the US equivelant of the Famicom Mini series.

The collection will be called Classic NES Series, and will begin as a limited edition NES Game Boy Advance SP as well as a line-up of eight classic games released during the Nintendo Entertainment System days of nearly 20 years ago.
The NES Game Boy Advance SP will feature a very unique color scheme that matches the original NES controller's look. It will, of course, play any Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance game.

Nintendo will release eight games for starters, all accurately emulating the NES games from the mid 80s: Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Excitebike, Ice Climber, Xevious, and Bomberman. Each game in the series will be priced at $19.99, and will be packaged in a standard Game Boy Advance box featuring the classic artwork of the original game.

"I mean, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man? These are, like, the best games ever," says Perrin "Mallrat" Kaplan, Nintendo of America's vice president, marketing and corporate affairs. "And if you aren't just dying to get your hands on the gnarly new Classic NES Limited Edition GBA SP, you're a total dweeb." Yep, that's a real quote, folks.

The games and system will launch on June 7th in the US

Lost Levels don't come on the GBA version, just the GBC Super Mario DX version. Prett piss poor if you ask me. Pay $20 for just Super Mario Bros. or pay $20 for Super Mario Bros. + Lost Levels. Gee, let me think about that.....Kinda stupid for Nintendo to re-release a GBC game but take out content instead of adding it. Booooo!

i heard that next month nintendo's gonna do this sweet deal where they sell these tickets for like $50 and everybody with a ticket gets into this big empty tank... and the people from nintendo get to run around in the tank and snatch as much money out of our pockets as they can for 10 minutes.. everybody who gets all their money taken wins, and the losers have to empty their pockets and give the money to nintendo.... sounds fun... also the tank might have a NES sticker stuck to the side... Freakin crazy. I love my Cube, and I've always had a special place in my heart for the big N, but this is ridiculuos.

Buy a G-boy, then buy a light, a link cable, then an e-reader, a cube and a tiny memory card, then a somewhat bigger one, then we'll come out with a decent size one after a few years. I hate being nickled and dimed to death. Sony is doing the same thing with the PS2, Network adapter, HDD thing.

But $20 for 15 year old, 8-bit games? Sorry, I've been buying re-hashed, re-packaged Super Nintendo games for years for inflated prices and I'm not going to bite that fishhook anymore. This is insulting. I can buy an arcade compilation of 20 games for $20 on my Cube or PS2, so why the hell would I shell out hard earned cash for trashy old games that really aren't that much fun anymore? Novelty? Not to mention that you can get some of those games on E-Cards if you have an E-Reader for $0.99 a game at some stores. I picked up Excitbike and Donkey Kong for $0.99 each at Circuit City.

I agree that $20 is crazy for those games. It was bad enough that Nintendo released each Mario game seperate when they all could have fit on 1 cartridge but it is a disgrace that Nintendo is charging this much. I guess it goes along with their business practices though like charging more for Player's Choice games and releasing small memory cards and charging more than the competitors for them.

Well I think we are the ones who are stupid, because as long as we are willing to pay for these games, they will keep makin em. Now if they came in the famicom (NES) style packaging, then I would be all over it, but right now I am reserving the gb sp only (never had a gameboy since the gb color) I got a few games for free and a few cheap but I usually use my gb player on the gc. But I like having to play at work when it gets slow.

I also think the $20 price tags are way too much. These games should be $10 tops. The only game I see myself paying $20 for is Zelda and possibly Star Tropics if it's re-released. This classic outbreak is even further proof that the e-reader was a failure.

No one is saying Nintendo shouldn't make money. But when other companies, like Midway, Activision, Intellivision, Konami, and Namco re-release their classic games, they do it in compilations of at least 4 games to a cart. Ice Climber is a fun game, but there is no way in hell it deserves its own $20 cart. And to release the inferior NES version of Pac-Man on its own $20 cart, when Namco sells a compilation of arcade-quality Pac-Man games for the same price or less, is simply ridiculous.

Twenty bucks for Zelda ... maybe. The others, forget it.

If that's what you think, do what I did... don't buy it. If you absolutely must have any of these games, even at the $20 price tag, then you're proving Nintendo's point that this isn't an unreasonable cost to you.

So in summary... simply don't buy the games if they're not worth it to you. Eventually the prices will fall, or they'll be available on ebay.

If you must buy it at all buy it from ebay. Buy it from a person not some mega seller. Then the mega seller wont buy 500 more copies thinking the game is hot and cause nintendo to think that 20 bucks is a good price

This is going to sell, even if not one adult (18 and up) buys into it. Soccer moms (and dads) are going to see the recognizable names and the cheap (compared to the 29.99 the other games cost) price, and buy them by the boatload.
