I scanned the boards and was shocked as hell to find that no one's dug up this one yet. Gearbox Software- the company that converted Halo to PC- recently announced the CE kit- Custom Edition. It allows you to play custom maps, upgrade your character models, add new weapons, as well as insert new environmental devices (vehicles, objects, buildings, and make it destructible, if you want). So, with much praise from Bungie, a group has taken on the task of building several maps from Halo 2 and inserting them into this CE. And let me tell you- - they did a BOSS job of it!
The site like below has all the info you'll need. The CE download DOES require a CD key from the Halo you have running on PC to work. Played it online last night for nearly 4 hours straight- it was awesome. If you have Halo on PC, you owe it to yourself to check this out!

No discussion because Halo CE is far from being "recent." Don't recall exactly when, but it came out well over six months ago.
The porting of Halo 2 maps is indeed recent though.

Yeah, the custom stuff is a good 8-10 months old.

Yeah, I figured it would have surfaced ages ago. However (and I hate leveraging this), my having only ventured into the CAG foray a short while ago, had never seen anything on this. Not to mention- as it was put- the Halo 2 add-ons are the most recent portion of the endeavor, but so damn well worth it.
Again, I'll be on tonight, my handle's the same everywhere online. Hope to see you all there!

So, can I get a yes or no: this mod worth me reinstalling Halo for?
Hows it perform? :)

Definitely, in my opinion. The Mod runs great, and the new maps respond well to systems tailored for FPS games. They have two more maps due out by the end of Feb, making for 5 new ones, with two seperate takes on two of them (making seven playable). The character designs are up there (not quite halo 2 quality), and the weapons usage is spot on (dual wielding SMGs on the Engine Room map with both mouse buttons)- even down to the sword movements. This is a high quality update- not some random fan-tribute crap.
Only major downside, is that not a lot of people realise this is being done, so, the variety in online players are very limited. This has a large impact on all of this, as the CE update is a multiplayer-only add-on. However, spent several hours the other night jumping through rooms, and the community solidly supports it, and it was still great to play, if not lacking in the choices of where to go. This is really one of those, "The more people who play, the more that will join" type of projects, though.
So, bottom line- Worth the install to at least check out everything. Worse case scenario?- uninstall. BTW, Halo has 'problems' running on SP2, so if you downloaded SP2, head to Microsoft's site before the install of Halo to see if it will cause a problem for you.
Hope that helps,
