Chicago-based developer and publisher Midway Games continued its recovery push today by announcing that it has entered into a multi-territory agreement with the Cartoon Network (licensed by Warner Bros. Interactive) to publish videogames based on five of the channel's Adult Swim programs. Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, Harvey Birdman - Attorney At Law, Sealab 2021, and Space Ghost Coast to Coast were the quintet named under the deal.

"Cartoon Network is known for creating programming that is cutting-edge in its presentation and content, and thus perfectly suited for video games," said David F. Zucker, Midway president and chief executive officer. "The built-in fan base and popularity of Adult Swim affords us a critical stepping stone towards success."

"Adult Swim is a phenomenon with young adult viewers who identify with the edgy, irreverent tone of the shows and the block," said John Friend, senior vice president, Cartoon Network Enterprises. "Clearly, lots of Adult Swim fans are avid gamers, and we look forward to working with Midway to make games the fans will love."

Under this agreement, Midway plans to publish games based on all five licenses for as-of-yet unnamed consoles, various handheld systems, and the PC. The first title in the Adult Swim lineup will ship in late 2006.

With Midway's hot streak of good games in the past year, these could definitely turn out to be good, but I won't be holding my breath for it to happen.

I must have missed these games. What did Midway release last year that was any good? I can only think of The Suffering.

ATHF will be cool, I can tell already. There was a small article about this in the latest EGM I believe. Right next to the one mentioning that SOCOM 3 may be out by the end of the year and will be compatible with the SOCOM for PSP. [-o<

Late 2006? Great, out just in time for when Adult Swim becomes stale! Yes!

Psi-Ops, NBA Ballers, Mortal Kombat: Deception, and Shadow Hearts: Covenant are a few of their hits from last year.

I can picture Sea Lab being a fun Wario-Ware style game.

Also, Midway has been coming back in the last couple of years. The buying of the Unreal series will help them greatly as well.

Adult Swim sucks. Early on it was kinda funny, but all the shows started making less and less sense, and the insanity just killed it for me.

I still watch Futurama and Family Guy on occassion, though, despite seeing all of the episodes they're willing to show like 50 times.

So does that include the shows that didn't originally come from Adult Swim? Like Inuyasha and all the other anime. I'm guessing no, but I was just wondering.

Thats bad news... Great senseless entertainment... but is there ever a good video game made from an existing franchise?

The only ones I can think of are the Xmen arcade, Simpsons Arcade, and the TMNT arcade game... I know theyre may be a few more... but honestly, how do you convert the wacky ass stuff on adult swim to a worth while game?

I could see a shockwave game where you get to toture Meatwad... but a serious console game?

It appears that this is Adult Swim exclusive shows, or shows made by Cartoon Network for Adult Swim. Cartoon Network likely doesn't have the rights to license an anime show like Inuyasha.

I hope the ATHF game is good.

It's just for those 5 shows.

Without the Venture Bros it's worthless. Worthless!!!!

A VB RPG would rock.

I dont see this working out for them. But if AS could rally the troops to blindly buy the games as they do with the DVDs, maybe. That works since the production budget of AS non-anime shows are roughly $20-30.00.

I know how you feel Ackbar. I thought that if they were smart enough that they would have at least picked up that license. I dunno, these games could be alright to pretty good, but I for one am not expecting something tremendous.

Bonus pretzel!

This needs to be a collection of mini games, or maybe a kart racer or Super Smash bros type game. I don't see any way of sustaining a full length action game.
