I'm a PC gaming noob. I've heard the term over-clocking a couple times before--what the hell is it?

Overclocking that card isn't going to help you much. A 9200 isn't that great to begin with.

Hey,
Overclocking your video card may not be possible with a 9200. If you do, any performance gain is minimal, since it is such a weak card as it is.
Xboxmaster, when you overclock a PC component, it operators faster and performs better, however it makes heat. Much more heat then it should. Which is why you gotta be careful when you OC stuff, don't wanna fry anything ;)

Yeah, I know someone who stupidly tried to overclock their video card. Long story short it set on fire and he had to buy a new one.

I have my video card overclocked and it works fine. You just gotta be careful.
The only advice I have: do it in small increments. Do 5mhz at a time if you are unsure. Do NOT, I repeat NOT overclock over 20mhz incremements. This will not only stress your hardware because of the sudden change, but it will generally be an unsafe and unwise decision if you are unsure what to OC to.

Yeah, my friend overclocked it way too much, he said it would be fine...5 mins later when its on fire I'm laughing my ass off and he's panicking.

Lol.
I fried some ram once but it wasn't from OCing, it was from ESD.

I suggest you to overclock that 9200 monster 3 folds, then get a new and better card when it smokes.

download there ATITool and let the program find it's max core and max memory. It's usually right on the money with max cores and memory, and since it scans for artifacts in the 3d app it comes with it makes the job easier then opening up a game then checking it every time. My 9800 pro AIW is at 425/355, stock is 378/338.

It's not worth the effort to overclock your card unless you are ready to waste time and money on replacing the card's stock fan.
Most of the time the increase is minor and the side effects are major - So it's not worth it.
