Really great to see another one of these titles coming out, though it is strange they reduced it to just eight games this time.

Is that Super Off Road the one with Ivan "Ironman" Stewart?

Package seems wimpy. Kind of surprised at all the racing titles.

It's mine for Stun Runner, though the exclusion of other genres is going to limit my playtime on this collection.

I'm still #1 at Bubbles. Believe it.

Yeah, short list of games....but I LOVED Off Road back in the day.....I played that game for an hour or more on one quarter back in the day.

Probably not the same though w/o a steering wheel.

I was hoping for some more Mortal Kombat games but oh well. Maybe they will do a dedicated MK compilation some day. If they made one of those and implemented XBL gameplay (not just a stupid high-score table) I would be in heaven.

Good to see another MWT, but still... only racing games would be kind of uncool. I'd like to see
the original MK
MK 4
Gauntlet Legends
Doom
Gex
NBA Hangtime
NFL Blitz
Quake
Rampage 2: Universal Tour
Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
WWF Wrestlemania (arcade version)
and Body Harvest since I never finished that game

and if it's a racing compilation, where the fuck is Cruis'n USA???

Now I don't care if it takes another 3 compilations to get all those games out, but those are the games that this horse wants to play again.

also, having San Fransisco Rush on there seems kinda pointless... the Dreamcast version was way ahead of the arcade. It'll be lame to play Rush on a console without the stunt mode. Me and my friends played stunt mode to death in college. Heck even the graphics were way better on the DC version.

Unfortunately there are probably legal/licensing issues with a lot of the games we would like to see (WWF for example). A depressing and completely lame example would be the TMNT 2 game that came out last year... it included the first TMNT arcade game as a bonus, but as I understand they actually had to change the original music due to some legal bullshit. I mean that is just the height of lameness.

KillingMachine
02-16-2005, 01:33 PM
Limiting it to racing games is pretty lame. One of the reasons I enjoyed the first two so much was because they provided a nice variety of game types with broad appeal. The last thing I'd want in an arcade compilation is a disc full of nothing but racing games.

epobirs
02-16-2005, 01:34 PM
So they finally came up with an emulator for the Quantum VooDoo SLI based hardware. All but the two older Atari games are based on that.

Funny thing is, the Xbox is pretty close to the arcade hardware and could run much of the code natively with a lot of wait states..

MaxBiaggi3
02-16-2005, 01:35 PM
With just a handful of titles for Volume 3, this is starting to look like the Namco Museum series. Granted, some of the games are good, but Midway really should be packing a lot more old games onto that disc. I guess I should be happy Midway isn't releasing them individually for $20 like Nintendo did with the GBA Classics series.

Not much of a spread but part of the problem is that there aren't all that many Midway and Atari machines left that aren't tied up in licensing issues like the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom game.

I'm still waiting for home versions of 'I, Robot' and 'Escape From the Planet of the Robot Monsters.' It seems like the robots are getting screwed here.

Doom would be put out by Id, and is part of the Doom 3 special/collector's/pre-order edition. Quake is also an Id property that I imagine will see re-release on the Quake IV special edition (waaaay down the line)

Gex was put out by Midway? (not sarcastic for once, I don't remember them publishing it)

I would also guess THQ would be pissed to see Wrestlemania re-released since they (THQ-Jakks) have the WWE license now.

Same goes for Cruisin' USA and Nintendo. I'm thinking that the developers for all these (marquee) games probably own all the licensing rights, THUS CRUSHING YOUR DREAM!

Lame. It might as well have been called 'Midway We're Running Out Of Arcade Treasures.'

I think it's a dumb move to try to squeeze anymore then one more installment, which is what this move is set to do. The last MAT was plagued by horrible translation problems.

If they can't even get Wizard of Wor, a downright ancient game right, then I'm not holding my breath that they can get Rush to work right.

It's called Midway Arcade Treasures. Most of those aren't arcade games. (R2R, Body Harvest, Doom, Gex, Quake). Some may have been ported to the arcade, but console games first. We'll never see Hangtime or Wrestlemania due to liscensing sadly.

Doom and Quake were published by Midway for whatever reason, thus I would think they could include them. Gex was also midway, and THQ didn't get the WWE license til quite late in the game, so they have no right, honestly.

I was sold on having Hard Driving last time with MAT 2, and it turned out to be completely unplayable. Not that you shouldn't get excited... if they port it good then it's a surefire hit, but wait and see how it gets reviewed. Because no matter how good the game list is, if the games you buy it for are buggy or worse, then you would have just pissed away $20.

Sorry... lol... I'm still pissed off at the last MAT 2. They totally butchered it.

not sure what yoyure trying to get at here...thq has exclusive licensing to the wwe name, so no other company can use it at the moment...thats like sega making a football game

Just saw this and would like to comment on it. I find that the MAT series is one of the best compilations that continue to come ot. I have really liked the previous two (even though number two didn't have MK1). Also this one doesn't seem too bad. I'm not so much a racing fan (mostly arcade racers) but this one seems awesome. I've already been a fan of these and so it's great that I will be able to get them again. I just want to say that the compilation seems a little on the meager end. Didn't the previous two have something like 20 or so games on them? Still this seems pretty good but if what they are going after is a racing compilation than where's the Cruis'n series? They definitely better put that on before they release so hopefully it will change the number of games that get released. Oh yaeh, I'm definitely going to pick this one up but probably at $15 after GGC or for 9.99 like I did the previous two.

I thought Nintendo co-published the arcade version of USA with Midway? Now its been about a decade since I've seen the machine so my mind may be slipping.

To add in my two cents with MAT, they've easily been the best complitations in a while. Rather than giving us just some ham handed ports, they've added in some great background info...Even if the audio is completely screwed up. And hooray for hydrothunder.

Make a list of all the games ever produced by Midway (including those they acquired with the Atari arcade assets), then make a list of all the games covered in the first two MAT entries and Atari collections. Subtract the second set from the first and note what little remains that has much sales potential.

They could have put on a few more items like MACE and War Gods, since they use the same hardware as several of the racing games but there isn't all that much interest in either.

Having a set of just racing games makes some sense. For a lot of people who were very narrow minded in their interests, if they only really cared for one game in a previous MAT it might seem expensive. This is in spite of the fact they're getting a nearly arcade perfect recreation of that game for $20 at worst and more commonly $10.

For those who just like racers the third MAT is a known quantity with no perception of being made to buy something unwanted along with the wanted. It doesn't matter how cheap something is, they'll find an excuse to complain. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing more specialized collections like the imported SF/SNES shooter collection I got a few years ago.
