Am I missing something or is this guy crazy? $35 for Madden 2002? $50 for Max Payne?

This is what happens when non-gamers try to get into the game business.

Yeah, his prices are a little outta whack.

I saw Madden 2002 at EB for $1.99.

It could be funny if somebody gets into a bidding war over his wares though, heh?

He does have perfect feedback....On the coins mostly

Seriously, putting "RARE!!!!" in your auction title doesn't make it rare. At first glance I thought this might be the same guy that is trying to sell common Virtual Boy games for $25+.

really, you'd think that most people would check on the street value of things before coming up with fictional BIN numbers.

There are a lot of eBay sellers w/ prices like this. I'd say they're more stupid/ignorant than crazy.

Sometimes that works out good for sellers though.

I am selling a few N64 games that are just sitting around. Someone bought Super Mario 64 for $20! It wasn't a BIN, he actually bid that high. It was even used. I checked EB Games and you can buy it cheaper there. For some reason people think that everything on eBay is cheaper and bid way more than they should.

It's called supply and demand...and in America, our economy (and people's pockets :p) are so well off, at least for now, that if you see something you like, you can afford, you'll buy it.

I mean, people KNOW you can always price check other stores, but it's called demand. If they can get it right there and then, if they really want it fast, they will pay for it. In many cases, they aren't stoopid - they know what they are doing.

Think back to your past - I'm sure they may have been times where you saw a jacket, pants, or etc., knew that you could first go price checking at numerous stores, but you took it anyway because you wanted it there and then, even if it was a little more expensive.

Hell, as if we videogamers don't pay too much already for $50 a game. In a few months, most of those games could easily be found for lower than half (Greatest Hits, Player's Choice, Platinums).

I admit it - I once paid $60 right on the spot for a SNES Dragonball Z game with the convertor because I wanted right there and then, eventhough I knew I could've gotten it for less than $50 on Ebay.

Crazy is that the guy actually sold Luigi's Mansion for $40....

But it is a collectable, it's garunteed to collect in dust interest while is sits around in your attic.

Figured it must be a case where the dude decided to take a chance with crazy high prices on 5 cent listing day. But he actually started these a day or two before Valentine's day.

Where do you see a Luigi's Mansion that he sold for $40? Did a search on his completed listings and all the games ended without selling, unless I'm missing it.

Anyway, these will probably not sell. The guy is just throwing his money away in eBay listing fees. He's got like 15 games at $1.20 listing fee each (a few are over $50 so that'd be $2.40 each) Plus $0.50 each for the subtitle, and an extra bit for the gallery picture. Dumb. Oh, and double the amount as all 15 were relisted from an auction that didn't sell last week. He'd have to sell 2 at these nutty prices just to make back his listing fees.

Where's Banky when you need him?
All the games are still factory sealed. Since there were only 5 million of each made, you should buy them all and keep them sealed. 10 years from now you will be filthy rich!

(yes, I took some liberties with the wording)

It is a rule that game sellers have to put "rare" and/or "collectable" on every single item they sell. It's the law :)

freestylenut
02-16-2005, 04:43 PM
oooh, he has State of Emergency (PS2) for the rock bottom price of $29.99. *Jealousy*

His prices are fucking wacky.

SOSTrooper
02-16-2005, 05:31 PM
He probably paid more for insertion fees than the game is actually worth.

outlawz42
02-16-2005, 05:44 PM
No bids on any of his items...take this as a lesson learned. America is a land of free commerce so you can post any price you want...and we will all not buy your shit if its too high.

Isn't the point of making money ... to make money? So, why the hell are all you guys saying that the seller is crazy for charging prices that SOMEONE (not everyone) will pay? You guys seem to take the spirit of this forum too far sometimes. Just because we're cheap doesn't mean that people shouldn't try and separate other fools from their money. It just doesn't. We don't like paying much for games. Other buyers don't shop around like we do. It's that way with EVERY consumer good EVERYWHERE.

Search his completed auctions. He had all of these games up last week and none sold. I'll wager he'll have the same result this week as well. That puts him well over $50 in the hole in eBay fees.

Personally I wish there were 10,000 more sellers just like this guy. eBay would never need to raise their fees again.

Perfect for collectors-- It don't even have price stickers on them!

So, the seller knows how to format an eBay auction, yet types like a goddam hillbilly. Great...

myke.
...don't have no dadgum price stickers.

I'll agree that some of his prices are out there... however, he does have a good gauge on what his items are.

He has original pressings - for example Luigi's Mansion, a launch title, is non Player's Choice. I have not seen a sealed one like this in over a year, at least.

Granted, there isn't a market for this collecting (yet), but that right there is a pretty good find.

LOL this dude hates me now

You asked:
"um i can get this at my local ebgames for 5 dollars? What gives?"

Uh, no you can't. What you can get at your local game store is a used copy of the "value" version of the game. This is the original game, in perfect condition, in the original cellophane. Doesn't even have a price sticker on it. You may not be interested in collectable video games, and that's fine. This is for those who are.

Well, it is mostly true that you can't get the non-GH version of PS2 Max Payne, right? I'm not trying to defend the guy (and he's still full of it), but your response would have been more impressive if it was a link to a non-GH game. Your link sort of verifies his point that you can't get the original one anymore (but it does contradict his comment that you can only get used GH Max Payne in stores).

Why would anyone care if it was the original version of Max Payne or GH??

It's Max Payne for $39.95! :booty:

>"Just thought I'd throw this your way before your auction ends, so that you can change things as necessary. Just about every game store has these titles in stock- alot with orginal sealed casing- for 20$ or less. Hell, EB stock PGR for 15 brand new, original casing. Just thought I'd give you a heads up on that. Most this would move for around 10-15$.

Yeah, this might make me an ass for doing this back and forth with him, but seriously, just because you can't see daylight, might mean you have your head too far up your own ass.

He'll figure out his prices are too high after he's relisted them all a dozen or so times with none of them selling. No need to harrass the poor guy :P

Actually, I just checked his auctions again and he has dropped most of the prices. Still hasn't sold anything though.

Alright, I'm not replying to his most recent shot back, since everyone feels it's best to just leave him on his own. I would, however, like to share it. Personally..yeah, it's a little justified, but, might be a titch too defensive of what he's trying to do with these games. Plus, how many has her REALLY sold??

Why waste your time sending people such bullshit? The only thing I can figure is that you want the game, you just don't want to pay my asking price. Fact is, I've already sold a couple copies of this game at higher prices than I'm asking now. I really couldn't care less what you think about it, unless you want to buy it. You don't want to buy it, why are you writing me? If you do want to buy it, this is not a technique that is going to get me to lower the price, sorry.

Damn right I don't want to pay that price, when I can go to my neighborhood EB with their 2/30$ promo, and dig up ones without the GH/PC/PH box art. But, I'll be big enough to just walk away from it. Too damn funny, though.

It just gets better every time he claims to have sold these games at his current prices or higher.

Keep the conversation going...

Anywho, it'd be funny as hell if someone cut-n-pasted my emails and continued the conversation. Maybe he'd go crazy(er) or something. Who knows.

I remember a few years back I bought the book, "Fight Club" at a local bookstore. A week later, after reading it, I decide to throw it up on Ebay and mayber get a few bucks for it. It sold for like $25. At the time you could have bought it on Amazon for $10-12. People are weird on Ebay. I don't blame the guy for giving it a shot.
