This is histroy, no matter if you like hockey or not. They are officially canceling a professional sport's season. This is the darkest, worst day in the history of hockey. No matter what happens from here on out this day will never be changed. They killed hockey.

It's weird how it just.....fell off. I guess it's because MTV can't market NHL like they can with the NBA.

I wouldn't say its the darkest no matter what... they could decide to ritualistically sacrifice the NHL playes and put their families on pikes to decorate city parks...

But you're right... no one really gives a damn.

Heh, I'm at work and instead of the regular programming I hear a press conference of the Bills decision to release Drew Bledsoe. Then they mention the NHL season was canceled as an afterthought, which it's become at this point.

Pure Apathy

I'm totally pissed off because they canceled the season. I had season tickets for the St. Louis Blues and this year was going to be the best time of my life.

Not really, I don't get a damn about NHL.

So true. I have no interest in pimping Martin St. Louis's ride or checking out Jaromir Jagr's crib.... but give me Shaq and Iverson and I'm there...

Fromwhat I have read, you should be pissed at the players just as much as the owners. It soudns like they got pretty close, but both sides were too stubborn to move the salary cap 3 or 4 million in the other direction. Both sides are completely stupid and I don't even care about hockey/

shoot, i care man. check out my name. it was the strangest thing. i went to the writing center at school @ one to watch the press conference on the net and the cap of my spring water wasnt secured and flooded my bookbag. kind of a metaphor for the ice melting.

it will never be the same and i am actually digusted to have a wardrobe of which 70 percent of has an nhl logo on the sleeve or the back. i think its all jeremy roeNECK's fault. the mtv marketing thing is true, but there are too many franchises and the puck moves too fast for most people to watch it on tv. it is however, the most poetic of all the sports and beautiful thing to watch. too bad naslund wont skate, and kovalchuk and heatley all play across in Europe. they need to get an agreement done as soon as they can. disgusting

If they can't take 3-4 million for the job and smile they should be hit with a brick... The only job that justifies multimillion dollar pay is teaching at a public school and any other civil service (police and fire, congress men should be paid dick, since thats exactly what they do).

In our ENTIRE LIVES most of us will not assemble that ammount of money. these arrogant cock suckers whine about 1 million when they make 10. 10,000,000! There is zero room to bitch when you make more than some countries.

Some things could be done to market the NHL more effectively:

1. Contract into the Midwest, Northeast, and Canada only. Hockey just fits the lifestyle better there. The past years of expansion into Cali, Florida, Tenn, and Arizona were not smart. In Dallas, for example, are you going to want to see a Stars game over a Mavs game? Probably not. ESPECIALLY with the ticket prices being the same.

2. Hockey should look like NHL 95 for the Sega Genesis. Whenever I watch hockey on ESPN Ocho it's just boring. In person its great, but the sport doesn't seem to translate to TV very well. I don't have a specific solution for this problem, but I'm sure someone does. Maybe Bill Simmons.

3. Speaking of Sports Guy, just read this artcile:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/050204

He has some great ideas.

The Sports Guy's best idea is the one where he takes a gun, puts it in his mouth and pulls the trigger...

...sorry I gave up reading on him when his love for the Celtics shifted strictly towards hatred for the Pistons, he's a little too bias for me. Guess the guy is still bitter that the Bad Boys brought about an unceremonious end to the Celtic's reign as kings of the east.

I agree with you about his Boston stuff, I just skip his Celtics articles and most of his articles about the Pats. I still find him entertaining, and that's all I read him for anyways. At least his bias is plain and for everyone to see, unlike most of the sports writers with hidden agendas/biases.

How long is a usual NHL season? After a 153 day lockout, the season being cancelled shouldn't have been a huge suprise to some of you.

Hockey is doing fine, Div I hockey (alhtough very regional) is some great hockey to watch, the Jr. A division wonderful, minor leagues, high school. Hockey will survive, the NHL well they made their bed.

True, I think it's gotten to the point where I like to hate him, so at least he's got that going for him.

As for the NHL, this is such a shame. I'm one of the (apparently) few NHL fans on CAG, and this is really just a pity. I'm just a die-hard sports fan though... but hockey has always been my favorite to watch, well since Isiah Thomas retired, and not being able to watch the Red Wings is torture. I just hope Steve Yzerman plays another game.

Maybe hockey needs a Tiger Woods. You get a marketable star who in turn brings attention to the sport and forces his peers to improve just to be able to compete.

Sucks. Hockey's by far and away my favorite sport. I followed the Blues for years (was born in St. Louis) and longed to have a team here in Columbus. We finally get one and within four years the league stops playing.

Very sad. Hopefully they'll get their egos in check and get it together for next year.

Seriously! What's up with that? They can be so awesom in the regular season, sometimes even through the first round of playoffs, then they just tank. It's absolutely frustrating. And Keith T. has been useless in the post-season while making 11 mil. a season. Nice.

Ok basically for every race you gain points based on what place you finish in. There are bonus points awarded for leading the most laps and as long as you lead 1 lap you get 5 bonus points as well. So basically you could not win a race all year but end up winning the championship. A little disappointing, especially when your favorite driver has 8 wins for the season and loses the title by 8 pts, which isn't very much considering the winner of each race gets around 180(but I'm not 100% on that number).

What makes it confusing now is that when there's 10 races left in the season (36 race season, so after 26 races basically) they take the top 10 people in points and set the #1 person with the most points and then each place gets 5 points less than the person above them. For example 1st would get 100 pts, 2nd would get 95, third would get 90, and so on.

Oh and the "Super Bowl" of NASCAR is actually at the beginning of the year, the Daytona 500. Which is this weekend, can anyone tell I'm a little anxious for it?

I could tell this would happen at the beginning of the lockout. I hardly watch the games anyway, except for when my Avs get on ESPN. It sucks, but I'm not crying about it. It seemed like they were close, but just couldn't agree on anything in the end.

I dont know, i've been trying to figure it out for the past 15 years. It's not like the actual team sucks, they have tons of great talent but they are just so inconsistant. In the playoffs its almost like halfway through the game they decide they want to play hockey. Hopefully the day comes when i can see them win the cup. Keith has his moments where hes a fantastic asset to the team and then other times he produces little.
