This is kind of hard to come by these days, and its better than the PSOne version. A must have for fighting fans. Oh, and one more thing... only two left.

Well, I'll check my local EB's that it says have it in stock, and if they're complete and they are actually there (alot of times it says its in stock but it isnt), then maybe we can set up some sort of deal.

Cool. Thanks. But pick it up only if it's complete/mint.

Wrongo, the Dreamcast version is the least arcade perfect, then is PS version and the perfect port is the Saturn version. Only get it if you don't plan on playing it for practice for some sorts of a tourny. [though there are basically no more A3 tournies now a days.]

You can get a copy complete on eBay for less though.

I thought A3 was still played at Evolution

I admit, I'm no tourney player, but I'm still very curious about exactly what those differences are, and what makes those versions worse than the arcade original (i assume compared to Zero 3 Upper). Especially the DC port, since wasn't Z3U made on the Naomi hardware?

The Dreamcast version has an enchanced World Tour Mode and extra charecters over the PSX version.

THe GBA version has three exclusive characters....

One of the two best portable fighters on the GBA IMO.

I'm not sure what the exact changes were (since I never played a lot of the original Alpha 3), but the DC version had some tweaks that changed priority of certain moves and made it a lot easier to do cheezy air juggles.

Nope, the was taken out of evo at 2k3, last time played was 2k2.

The DC version had lots of timing differences than the arcade port, tweaked couch cancels [v-ism] and I think the 'start!' time is different as well, just overall not arcade perfect.

Rozz - I don't recall the DC having extra characters that PSX doesn't have, if you mean Guile, T-Hawk, Dee Jay, Fei Long, Evil Ryu, then PSX has that as well.

If you can get your hands on it, I very much recommend going for SF3 third strike instead -- or if you must, you're probably better off just picking up the PS2 version unless you have a controller converter for the DC. The DC controller, IMO, is perhaps the least preferred among gamers for fighting games (funny thing is DC is the hotspot when it comes to some of the best Capcom fighting games around though -- Tech Romancer, Power Stone 2, Project Justice, etc.).

Anyways, opt for the PSOne version -- it's likely cheaper and I think it's a greatest hit, too.

If you're buying a DC fighting game, get one that isn't on all the other consoles like Tech Romancer ...

I got mine at a local thrift store, mint and complete, for a measly $2.00.

Well, not entirely mint. The case had "$2.00" written in crayon on it. :D

Just to explain why the DC version is not arcade prefect - the hit area is different. Capcom renlarge the sprit from the PS version but didnt change the hit area. As a result, you attack could be touching your enemy but cause no damage.

hmm I feel quite the opposite. I thought the DC controller was great for 2D fighting games while the dual shock is one of the worst (mainly because of the d-pad)

If you can get your hands on it, I very much recommend going for SF3 third strike instead -- or if you must, you're probably better off just picking up the PS2 version unless you have a controller converter for the DC. As far as Street Fighter games go, Third Strike and Alpha 3 are very different. Now, you could rightly say that Third Strike is "better" than Double Impact... that would be a fair comparison. However it's not really fair to recommend it over Alpha 3, because SFA3 is really a different experience. There are plenty of reasons why a person could prefer either one.

Oh and it's interesting to hear about the differences between the DC and PSX versions. You never hear of a PSX port being more arcade-perfect than a DC version. What about animation frames and stuff like that... I would think that the Dreamcast would at least have the edge there? I have both versions so I am really curious about this. I can and do play it on MAME too, but I like playing it on consoles for the reliability and the versus mode options and stuff.

The dreamcast does have a of improvement over the PSone version, such as faster load time, better graphics, vmu min game, and ability to use 2 different charcater to fight M.Bison. Aside from the hit area problem the DC version is better.

Great game, be sure to use the coupons!

Luckily, once I managed to order SF Alpha 3, Powerstone 2, and MVC2 for like 41 bucks, and they all came complete! :D
