I signed up for the list before the original cutoff, but lately ive been getting a lot of telemarketing calls from companies ive never heard of. All of the legal action that has taken place has me confused, Is the do not call list still in effect?

I can't remember the last time I got a call, and I was getting them on a regular basis. I sorta miss it every now and then since it was fun to harass them

Yes, it does actually.

I had forgotten all about telemarketers until I saw this post. We haven't had a call in ages.

Now they need to stop spam e-mail and the world will be a better place.

I only have one mortgage company that ever calls me anymore. There is no greater sound than silence, especially when I'm eating

Ok, I'm a former telemarketer, and here is the low down facts on the DNC list:

1: Yes it does work
2: There are conditions to it: If you have done buisness with a company before, they can still call you, regardless of what DNC list you are on, so don't try any excuse like: "OMG WTF NUB IM ON TEH DNC LIST U CANT CALL ME I WILL SUE." -This will just lead to a response on the script that is about 2 sentences long, and they will continue their transition.
3: Always remember that sometimes you get calls from companies that you may not have heard of, but are still affilated with another company that you have done buisness with. An example would be, MBNA... Many people don't know what MBNA is unless they have credit cards. You can get a call from MBNA if you have AAA, offering that nifty credit card that gives you a 5% gas rebate (have one myself and it is acutally quite the tool for a cheapass.)

Ahh yes and one more thing: Don't piss off a telemarketer... Trust me, the revenge will be greater than you think... They stay calm on the phone, but the rage burns inside and vengance is a few mornings down the road when your hung over from the night before :P

In my experience, it sorta works. For example, I've been getting calls from the Washington Times newspaper soliciting their home delivery service. I have never done business with this company. Hell I've never even bought their paper. But they still call.

Overall, I'd say my telemarketer call volume has decreased. The ones that do call get to meet my old friends, click and dialtone.

Fuking vultures...

It works like everyone else mentioned. And for the ones that do call writes down names and time and report them.

Ditto. The calls quieted it down for a long time, but lately businesses have been calling again. When I'm home, I write down their names and inform them that we are on the no-call list. My dad made the mistake once of saying it first: "We are on the no-call list, who's this?" ...and they hung up! Their caller ID was unavailable so... no luck there. However, there's definitely been a drastic decrease than before the list.

Dude, that must suck. I bet you got lip ALL THE TIME. I'm embarrased when my mom speaks to anyone advertising bullshit. She shoots them down so quick and hard.

For the calls that still get through: good stuff (http://www.xs4all.nl/~egbg/counterscript.html).
