Of course, later on Devastator (the original group-merge bot) was hard to resist too.

Not only did he have those cool cassettes that could pop out of his chest, but just recently I found our old (84, 85) Transformers in my parents attic, and he was the only one who really stood the test of time. Now that's strong!

Grimlock was my favorite transformer since i got him from my mom for easter way back when he first came out. It's wierd and appropriate since easter is only four days away and it reminds me of her and her kindness and support in all of my interests throughout my life. Grimlock has a little clear plastic trap door on his back that never seemed to fit the toy and didnt have a purpose. I recently learned that it was a door that was used for a little tiny micronaut guy that rode in his back from the original mold for the toy used in the pre-transformer takara toy company diaclone toy line in 1980-81. Grimlock trivia that makes him even more special to me.

Soundwave is my favorite, no doubt. Why? Because he's a sweet boombox and was the first transformer I ever got! On top of that, he's a loyal follower, shows no emotion, and kicks some serious butt.

I still remember unwrapping him that wonderful Christmas morning! What kid growing up in the 80's could resist a boombox robot??

Without a doubt, for me, it was Starscream. Megatron's right-hand-man with delusions of granduer. Just the whole concept of hating the autobots, yet wanting to usurp the leader of his cause creates such a wonderful conflict of interest, which is made all the more great because he was such a moron!

man, that is one machine with attitude!!

In his robot mode he usually carries a massive double-barrel plasma rifle. This weapon can release blasts of energy with enough power to burn an entire forest to ashes!! and when he get his chance and bonded with his dinosaur pretender shell, Gairyu takes on the form of an ankylosaurus!! at that state he is simply bad ass!

Definitely the Constructicons. They were totally evil and cool. They formed Devastator! I used to pass this one construction yard on a highway in the car with my parents and they had a few green bulldozers. I used to imagine they were constructicons. I was also a huge fan of the ORGINIAL Transformers.

Did anyone else think it was weird that Megatron transformed into a gun? He is suppose to be this all mighty badass yet someone else had to shoot him at the autobots. It was always laughable to me.

Optimus was, of course, the best and I still have nightmares about his demise. The best toy, however, was without a doubt, the big, bad, purple, vulcan-logic loving, gold-eyed, cyclops-lookin, reverberating voiced, right-handed, left-lasered, clear-plated-car-front-shaped chest, flip-up sight having, check-out-the-size-of-this-gun-you-little-wussy-handheld-pistol-megatron SHOCKWAVE! I think he was the first transformer toy that actually made sound (two different sounds even!) and had that flashing laser light. I threw a fit when my parents bought it as a gift for my cousin right in front of me and started to learn humility and how tricky parents can be when I opened it up on Christmas day.

When Beast Wars came out, I started collecting those ones up, since my parents got rid of my original stash of transformers for the most part. Optimus was a close second, since he was a bad-ass gorilla who rode a hover-board, but Cheetor was my favorite, 'cause he was a wisecracking cocky bastard.

You know, I've never considered this since childhood? Thankfully, grammatical nit-picking saves the day and I can answer your question exactly as you worded it: who IS my favorite transformer.

Ratchet. The autobot with an ambulance as his automotive form. His personality always stood out from the others--well, they were all very one-dimensional--because of his focus on saving the wounded. He was probably the first personification of the Hippocratic oath that I was exposed to at a young age. Looking back on it now, I realize that this was probably the most lasting impact that that cartoon series had on me.

Now, had you asked who WAS my favorite character, then my answer would've mirrored most of the others here. (and better yet, had you asked which was my/our favorite toy, then a unanimous cheer should've gone up for the one Anime/Macross ripoff: Jetfire!! ...who could actually transform as a toy exactly as he did on the show! Everybody and his kid brother had Jetfire. And Grimlock.)

Soundwave by far. My older brother had TONS and TONS of transformer figures, and I remember looking through them and finding a cassette deck. I thought "what the hell?", so I transformed it into a robot. He came with a cassette tape that turned into a pretadactyl if memory serves. What a great transformer.

Guns bigger than some of the transformers alone... rockets in his chest... and built like a tank. Voltron's got nothing on him.

The frickin' thing is a city, and when it wants to lay the smack down, it transforms into the most kick-a$$ Autobot. I still remember when a friend in elementary school showed me the toy and I had absolutely no idea what it was or when it had come out. I was in Transformer shock and knew that my collection now had a big gaping hole in it. My Mom, being the awesome Mom she is, took me and my brother to the local Toys R Us that week so we could add this insaneley cool toy to our collections.

The only thing I could compare it to now is when some awesomely good video game comes out of nowhere without any media hype whatsoever. You're totally taken off guard and just need to play it.

he was one of the Gestalt-type Transformers (Constructions) probably the most unique one despite being the first-one, in that he consisted of six smaller type Decepticons. The others usually had one large "body" transformer, w/ 4 other "smaller" ones making up the arms/legs. And he appeared in one of the best Transformers eps as well.

There are so many good choices for favorite transformer, as evidenced by all the replies so far here, but for me, I have to go with Huffer. Sure, he's not the most memorable (For those who don't remember, he was a little orange and blue semi-truck), but to me, he's very special, because he was the first Transformer I owned. I was such a thrill whenever he showed up in an episode, because he was right there in front of the tv with me. Time has passed, but I still have Huffer. He's missing an arm, and his legs are getting stiff, but I wouldn't have him any other way.

Starscream. Starscream makes no secret of his ambition to overthrow Megatron as Decepticon leader. He is ruthless, cold-blooded, and cruel. In that sense the two rivals are very much alike. But he has a vain side that clearly distinguishes him. He considers himself the most handsome of the Decepticons. He looks down at Megatron for being antiquated in his military strategy. Starscream believes the Decepticons should rely more on guile and speed rather than brute, destructive force to defeat the Autobots. Megatron overlooks the potential threat Starscream represents for one very good reason: Starscream is very good at his job.

It's hard for me to choose between Sideswipe and Sunstreaker, the two "brothers" that were Lamborghinis. Both of them had huge egos and they just looked awesome.

I didn't really watch the show that much but I had transformer toys. Because of this, I really didn't know much of the story behind the figures. Unfortunatetly, I had toys from various manufacturs and different times (as I was po') and thus my Optimus Prime was my tiniest figure- thus in my play he was the weakest and stupidest. My best transformer was some pre-beastwars era neanderthal fish thinng that was so complex my six-year fingers couldn't even get him all the way into his robot mode- I just popped his head up out of his butt when I wanted him to talk. Now that I'm older and I've acquired recordings of the original show I've realized that I did my diminuative Optimus Prime, 'lil O-Prime if you will, a great disservice in my portrayal of him during my play sessions. Of course, having him getting beat up Raphael of the ninja turtles probably didn't do much to boost his plastic ego either.

So anyway, to answer your question my favorite transformer is Optimus Prime because as anyone who has watched Family Guy knows, not only is he the most powerful, he is also the most Jewish of all his robotic kin.

Jetfire. He's my favorite soley based on the toy... It was so cool that it ended up being used in 3 cartoon series and three different toylines..

He was: Jetfire, an autobot jet.
A Valykre from Macross, and a veritech fighter from Robotech.

Three great series from the 80's and Jetfire was there for all of them.

I was a fan of Soundwave, my reason is because it has brought up some great humor amongst me and my friends over a certain topic that we have been discussing lately...
That topic is, what kids lie about to impress people...
We talked about how people would say they jumped over the pole in Super Mario Bros. or that they shot the dog in Duck Hunt...
Well anyway, we had this one friend back in the day that tried to say that he could put real tapes in Soundwave and they would play...
So he said he was listening to It's So Easy and Mr. Brownstone (GNR BABY!! haha) and whenever they cursed, or as he would say "everytime they said a bad word", then Soundwave would put his hands up...
As if he were celebrating something, like winning a soccer championship (good thing he didn't take off his top)...
So yeah we then played GNR tapes on Teddy Ruxpin and that actually does work and is some of the funniest stuff ever...
I suggest everyone get a Teddy Ruxpin and play some of the music you listen to nowadays on him, good laughs...
But back to the Transformers, we finally showed him there was no way it could play a real tape because the little animal tapes that went in him were smaller than a tape...
This was about the time that he decided to say that he taped GNR onto an answering machine tape, the kid didn't give up, but yeah at least he stuck to his lie...
Too bad it was just so ridiculous that we had to give him a Long Island High School Football initiation-style beatdown, only using GI Joe figures instead of pinecones...
OK, we didn't take it that far, but yeah, the reason Soundwave is my favorite Transformer is because he recently reminded me of such great memories of my childhood, just thinking back... :)

My favorite transformer is the Optimus Primal, because I got in during the beast wars era.

Optimus Primal was an interesting character, he wasn't actually the leader of the Autobots, but just a commander of a ship, but his epic battles with the Predacons across ancient earth were intriguing and spectacular.

Then, when beast machines came about he had to learn the secrets of Cybertron and become the savior of the transformers, sacrificing himself in the process, unlike the original Optimus Prime who died rather anticlimactically in a battle with Megatron.

Also, the transmetal Optimus Primal figure was really fun.

Like every other person I'm going to pick Soundwave. I remember how happy I was on Christmas when I opened up the box and took him out. Then my Dad asked me what the tape (Buzzsaw) plays. I told my Dad it doesn't play anything. My Dad couldn't believe he spent 25 bucks on something that looked like a tape player, but didn't work.

A couple years later Soundwave was forced to remain his tape deck form as my friend, Tim, accidentally broke his head off on a cross-country trip. RIP Soundwave.

My favorite transformer ever is Depthcharge. My reason? Well, the fact that he was a total badass had a lot to do with it. Not only was his weapons payload enough to level a whole city (a BIG city), but he had a sharp sense of wit, too. That, plus manta rays are just plain awesome.

Oh, and he also made a heroic sacrifice at the end of the Beast Wars story arc. I mean, that's gotta be worth something, too.

I remember when I was kid sitting in awe as Optimus mowed down the Deceps in the movie, and then getting teary eyed when he and everyone else died. Not Ironhide!!

Old school, how can you not like Jazz? Prowl was gtood too. My favorite old school was soundwave. My parents wouldn't let me have a Megatron. Got a rerlease dicast Megatron a couple years ago though.

New school: Beast wars is by far the best and most underrated Transformer series. I know, animals isn't as cool as cars and tanks and planes. But the scriptwriting, voice acting, character developmen, all were top notch. The violence level was serious, not just cartoony. It paid homage to old school, great CG effects that look better than some of the latest Transformer series from Japan.

My favorite of that group was Rinox. He was a genius, he was a combat specialist, and he was a zen master. Whenever he wanted to kick ass he could...

For me, my favorite of the Transformers crew has got to be Silverbolt from the Beast Wars series. Sure, I love the Autobots and Decepticons of old, but the feud between the Maximals and the Predacons was waged millions of years before that, while the Earth was still young and Energon was plentiful..

Anyway, I ramble. What I love about Silverbolt was his always chivalrous attitude toward his allies like a Medieval Knight, and the other side of the coin, his rage toward the Predacons except for one in particular, that of course being the lovely yet deadly Blackarachnia.

Also, what better Fuzor could there have been but of two of my favorite animals, a Wolf and an Eagle? A wolf's strong body, intimidating head and hind legs, coupled with the strong (not to mention sharp) front legs and talons of an eagle and the powerful wings to hold him aloft.

His robot mode is just as handsome as his animal mode, with a wolfish anthropomorphic head with a shortened snout, never ending missiles from his wingtips, and that weird little red orb in his belt. I always wondered about that..

And last, but certainly not least, his voice. All-around voice acting great Scott McNeil lent his soft, yet strong voice to the wolf eagle, whose great howls and screams really reflected Silverbolt's emotions. I call Scott great simply because he not only did Silverbolt in the series, but also the cowardly Waspinator, deadly serious Dinobot, and the quick witted Rattrap. At first listen, one would never know that all those different voices came from the same man!

So, all in all Silverbolt is my 'bot, although I really don't like what they did to the poor thing in Beast Machines..

The reason is simple: in issues #6-8 or so of the original comic series, all the other Autobots were disabled, and Ratchet alone reawakened the Dinobots, made a deal (and sucessfully double-crossed) Megatron, and single-handedly saved the rest of the Autobots (minus Optimus Prime's head - his real head, that is).

My vote goes to the Autobot Headmaster Leader, Fortress Maximus (or Brave Maximus in Japan).

Fort. max was built from an old Nebulon factory to help the Autobots battle Galvatron's Headmaster General - Scorponok (Mega Zara in Japan).

Comprised of the human Spike, who forms the head of Cerebro, who in turns forms the head to Fortress Maximus - Fort. Max is one of the most powerful Autobots ever created.

From there lies Fort.'s biggest downfall - his overwhelming pacifism. Yet he knows for peace to exist - evil must be stopped.

I choose him, I think it would suck to be one of the most powerful weapons ever made and then be hesitant to use them - even if it means saving his comrades.

My favorite Transformer is Jetfire from Transformers: Armada. He is a space shuttle which is awesome. I have a Jetfire figure which is really cool. His gun has sound, and when he is in vechicle mode it is one of his thrusters so the gun also makes a engine sound. If you stick the mini-con on the gun the gun noise sounds different, and more powerful. He can also fuse with Optimus Prime (Convoy) to make a powerful Transformer called Jet Optimus.

Devestator is my favorite transformer. He was a huge robot made up of the smaller contruction vehicles. At the time he was the largest transformer and giant robot of destruction. Second to him, my next favorite was my Metroplex. Because he not only provided a means of a portable base of operations for the Autobots, but was a mean kick ass machine all himself. I always wondered why Prime and the others didn't use him more often.

I'd have to say the best Autobot for me was the old Jetfire. I got him as a Christmas gift while my little brother got Shockwave. Now with Jetfire not only did you get a really cool transformer toy, you also got a Great looking Veritech Fighter from the Robotech series. It even had the instructions on how to transform him into the 3 Veritech forms. (Lawsuit anyone?) I still have mine on my desk today. My brother has since lost his Shockwave, I guess that ok since all that guy did was gaurd the spacebridge. :roll:

My favorite was Tracks, from the original G1 series. I may have preferred the Decepticons overall for their attitudes, but I love Corvettes. Tracks was not only a Corvette, but he could fly. Also, he made friends with a Puerto Rican teen named Raoul that tried to steal him in one episode. As a young Puerto Rican child, this was the first I had ever seen representation on television, so I was excited enough to ignore and later be entertained by the stereotype. Come on, now. Raoul? Awesome. He even came back for an episode centered around an evil disco.

There a couple of episodes I half remember with him, like the one where he became smart and built a new set of autobots. Or the one where he saved the day after Tripticon(?) fell on him and he was the only autbot/decepticon who was not rendered non-functional.

anyways my favorite is ultra magnus...the lovable loser brother of OP....he looked bad ass, humble, eager to please, the consumate soldier...and utter loser. plus he got screwed over by hotrod for the matrix. good god even robert stack couldn't save him from being a loser. not to be confused with the assholey armada or robots in disguise version.

Why? He was a planet. He spent most of hist time sleeping (just like me). He gave Megatron awesome and trippy powers. He had a huge robo-mustache. He looked kinda like a samurai. He had horns and wings and stuff. And, last but not least, he was voiced by Leonard friggin' Nemoy.

Optimus Prime because of a couple of reasons. One, when I was young I had an Optimus Prime Halloween costume and went around trying to tow around cars and screaming out "OPTIMIZE!"
And because I remember waking up on Christmas day and getting the toy.

First generation Tranformer I particularly loved was Wheeljack. He was a mechanic for the Autobots and wasn't featured too much. His depiction as a confident and self-esteemed problem-solver for Optimus and the rest of the Autobots was what made him a favorite in my book. Kind of a Velma, but with the ability to kick ass if need be.
