View Full Version : My gamcube is slowy making me HATE my other systems.
I don't know what it is but my gamecube is making me HATE my other systems. The wavebird just feels too perfect in my hands. The game selection dates from the 8-bit NES all the way up until this current generation. The gameboy player is easily one of the best add-ons to a system ever. I just don't understand why any true gamer would hate this system....it is a masterpiece. WAY TOO OVERLOOKED!!! Espcially at the bargain basement price you can get it at now!!!

I agree - to a degree...
I have recently decided to curb my gaming habits (in favor of other important aspects of my life), and therefore sell off a bunch of stuff. Selling my GC never crossed my mind...but neither did selling my XB. I definitely favor the GC in a broad sense, but I would miss GTA, Halo, and online gaming most of all if I were to ONLY have my GC.
Yes, the GBPlayer is a great add-on. I love mine! And honestly, I will always have the big N's systems so long as they are the only way to play mario and zelda. But, that said, I sure would like to see N accept that online gaming is popular - if they did that, I would swear up and down that they have the best system....

I agree...the GameCube has a weird place. I don't think a true gamer could survive on just it alone, but combined with another system like Xbox or PS2, it really works in favor of just about all manner of gaming.

you are just figuring this out?! i play my cube 3x more than my ps2 and xbox combined(if you dont count ffxi!) I own tons of games for all my systems but cube gets the most play time(mostly due to the wavebird) and the best part is i bought my system and half of my games(out of about 40) all together for less than what i paid for my ps2 at launch and if you count the other 2 ps2s ive needed to buy since then, that covers my cube with BBA and gameboy player and all my games

i dont recall anything said about the wavebird being the best controller ever just about it being perfect in HIS hands, thats what counts most. I love the wavebird for its perfect wireless part. Dual Shock 2 might be better but it isnt wireless and i love having no strings attached

The wavebird just feels right in my hands. I love the wireless too. I have a logitech wireless controller for my PS2 as well but it just isn't the same. I like the Dual Shock Controller too and it is good. It definitely sucks for fighting games though as does the GC controllers. I have the Street Fighter Controllers (PS2) for them. The Hori pad is also awesome to use with the Gameboy Player. It matches the gamecube controls to a SNES style pad.

I have to say that I agree with the parent poster that the GameCube is a very overlooked system. It occupied waaay too much of my time over the past two years. However, now that I've played many of its exclusive games, I just purchased a PSTwo and haven't looked back since (although RE4 might change my mind once FedEx gets here tomorrow!)
The GameCube really has some unique, fun games that anybody can enjoy. Animal Crossing, for instance, has been a huge time-suck for me, as have Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Paper Mario, and Zelda. The controller also rocks.
But I'm finding it difficult to compare the GC to the far larger library of games on the PS2, especially at rock-bottom prices and in my two favorite genres--RPGs and action platformers.
As part of a balanced gaming diet, all three systems can be fun. But owning all three, I find it difficult to compete with the PS2 for sheer bang for my buck.

I completely agree. If there is ever a game that comes out for GC and PS2 if the prices are similar, I always choose GC. PS2 system is junk, but there are just so many cheap games for it which makes it worth keeping.

yeap my gamecube is getting more and more time with ncaa football2005. I mean the ps2 football just sucks compair to gamecube. I cant belive how slow the ps2 runs the game.
though I did find a shocking game that i like a lot
Monster rancher 3 for ps2... though a lot of people said it sucked in different places i like it. Yea the graphics are not that good but for 4 bucks couldnt pass it up

I agree as well, I have PS2 and cube. I got the PS2 for Final Fantasys and Metal Gears (amongst others) but since November, Metroid Prime 2 and Paper Mario have occupied me.
Done with those, I'm gonna start Snake eater and Katamari Damacy and then probably GT4 when I get it.

I agree also with OP. I find the GCN controller to be the most intuitive, and of course the exclusives are usually better.
I own a PS2 and use it mainly for DDR and RPGs.
Although, I am definitely getting the Mario DDR if it comes stateside. *fingers crossed*

My brother has a Gamecube, and while I enjoy it and think it's an awesome system, it just doesn't have the games that interest me. Not that Gamcube's games suck, they're just not for me. There are those occasional ones such as Pikmin, but not enough to make me turn my back on my PS2 and go out and buy a Gamecube of my own.

See, I used to think that, but I signed up for Live when Halo came out and now I love online games. I usually buy my games for the Xbox now because I like their online service.
I own all three systems and right now my gamecube is getting the least use. There just aren't many games I am intersted in right now. I can't wait for the new Zelda though. I do have to say that if Nintendo did have online it would be much more of a contender for me. I definitely think I like my PS2 the least of the three, but all three have games that make me want that system.

I enjoy my cube, but IMO the controller is horrible...I have the wavebird, and it is good, but the button layouts for the past 2 nintendo systems I have not liked at all...my xbox gets the most time, playing a lot of fifa online with my brother...the cube and the ps2 get equal time

I really don't like the GC button layout, using the x,y buttons just seems difficult to me. Granted the PS2 controller is also garbage but I've had since 1995 to get use to it.

Online is nice to have. I wish some GCN games had it. The problem with that is sometimes developers use that as an easy way to sell games. Look at Halo 2. If they kept it online, I'm sure they could've made the single player much better. They knew that people wanted to play Halo online so they pretty much took the same game, added some features, and put it online. The game is great but I think the single player could've been better.
I find that the GC has the most comfortable controller. The wavebird is the best. I just can't get used to the X, Y, and Z buttons.
I mainily bought my GCN for MGS: Twin Snakes, which was kinda dissapointing but I found many other games that I love. It's still number 2 for me but it is a great system to compliment my PS2. The only thing that bothers me is all the sequels from n64 and snes are not as good as I had expected. Dissapointed with Starfox, Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Power Tennis. Hopefully the new Zelda will deliver. I guess its time that nintendo let go of some of these games. They have built up a pretty good collection of new games that could support them like: Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil, Metriod Prime, etc..

I own all three system, plus Ds & PSP when it is release, I could not limit myself to just 1 system, cause it is just wrong to be a hardcore gamer, and miss out on games such as GT4, halo 2, & Zelda. just because you love only one system.
I don't hate any system, I do however hate Sony Fan boys...
I do admit Sony has the best game selection becasue I love RPG's. but sony makes shitty hardware.

I have a PS2 and a GC, but over time the Cube has sort of become my son's more than mine. I just hardly ever use it anymore. The Wavebird is great, but I'm not crazy about the button layout, so for me the controller comparison is a wash. It just comes down to which system has the games you want to play.
On a side note, I have to say I'm impressed with the civility shown to this point in this thread, considering the variety of opinions. This could have easily devolved into a flame war. I know this isn't GameFAQs, but still I think it says something about the CAG community. :applause:

Same here.
I have the Cube and PC. I always pick up a PS2 or Xbox (on my 3rd Xbox now and have had 3 Ps2's also) but eventually the game I picked the other system up for is done and then there goes the system.
The cube I would not dream of selling. I have actually slowly started buying games I expect to keep with the system after its lifespan is over. The games I feel are must haves if you own a cube. These will all one day be packed up and put away for a few years just to come back to them and get the nostolgia back!

IMO XBOX and GC is the best combo, thing Is I could never sell my PS2... too many games, too little money to start over again on GC. Also, the GC is totally not good for someone who can't stand singleplayer and only plays multiplayer with friends occasionally (like me) most of my friends and family play on XBOX LIVE or PS2Online, so my GC collected dust...

I agree with most of the posters here that I love all three of my systems. It goes in streaks for me. Sometimes I will only play one system straight for a month or two but then remember how much fun one of my other systems is and go back to it. I really like the wavebird but wish it had even a slight rumble. I like the Dualshock 2 but wish it had a wireless version. Yeah I think the Cube is highly underrated. It is probably the most durable system, costs the least, has some different ideas behind it (hook up the Gameboy Player, the E-reader, hook up the Gameboy Advance, a small and quiet form factor and some games you just won't find anywhere else like Pikmin and Animal Crossing.

PS2, GC and PC.
I think these 3 makes a good combo to keep me occupied.
GC is a great system, I have been into pc gaming ever since the last generation console. Until recently I bought GC over Xmas then shortly after I got a ps2. I am a big fan of Resident Evil so GC served me well enough so far. Titles like wind waker is extremely fun ( I use to mock my friend that wind waker looks like piece of xxxx and it's for kids only) But after a hour or 2 in game, I have to admit that I was completely wrong. GC to me, is a MUCH BETTER system when it comes to party games, multiplyer, kids, and for GF. On the other hand, not to bash ps2, I have played about 40 games within the past 2 months and I hardly find one game that I truly like. MGS3 is an exception... great game. Shin megami Noctrune is great too, due to the fact that I have been a series fan ever since the first Super Famicom version (SNES in US).
For online gaming? I would simply go to pc. MMORPG is extremely addictive and it would occupy all my time. For shooting I would just go for CS sournce since I am also a CS addict... PC online gaming is enough in my opinion if you have a decent computer and connection.

I think the Dual Shock 1/2 is probably my least favorite controller for this generation. I liked the Dreamcast controller a lot, and thus I like the similar Xbox S Controller the most now. Then comes the GC controller, which is extremely comfortable. Last comes the Dual Shock.

I also like the Dual Shock least. It does every job decently, but it doesn't do any job spectacularly well. The Xbox controller is the perfect FPS controller, and the GCN controller is perfect for 3rd person games. But the DS1/2 just feels like a jack of all trades to me, but a master of none.

Thats fine for you and the other non-online gamers, but if N added online play that doesn't mean you'd have to play it. It wouldn't detract from your single player games. Its not like adding online play is going to make the excellent N first party games go away, and it would make people more likely to buy it just because now people could say, "Ha the GC3 has online skillz." Just another feature to brag about.

I think I like the PS2 for it's collection of games and backwards compatibility. Then I would say I like the Gamecube for it's quality of the games it has, whenever something is multiplatform I always pick up the gamecube version (if available). Least of all... XBox... I got it a few months ago at a pawn shop and have maybe turned it on three times, I don't care for most of the games available and I feel it is really lacking in my favorite genres (RPG/Music games).
But I swear if I hear one more braindead gamer at EB say the Gamecube is kiddy I may kill.

after solely dedicating my life to snes and psx rpgs, i finally bought a current gen system and decided on a gamecube.
basically because it was way cheaper. not only that, aesthetically and build wise it is much nicer than the xbox or ps2 which feel like they will fall apart at any minute (and in the ps2's case, does)
i dont have alot of time for games now but when i want to sit down and play, i want a few solid games of sound quality.
the new generation rpgs just don't impress me. they lack the story and skillful execution of snes, sega saturn and psx rpgs. really, it seems like graphics are everything nowadays.

I find games drive which system I play, but certain gc do make a lasting impression on how othr games operate.
Such as the onthefly saving in smash brothers- (as well as the instant startup when powering on)
Also, in metroid how there is NO loading, it hurts to play other games afterwards.
Then again, playing the sweetness of Live makes nintendo's indifference all the more frustrating.

Currently own a PS2 - fulfills my RPG needs quite well. But I'm still (and probably always be) a Nintendo fan boy. Funny, my GameCube gathers dust. I have the Wavebird, GB Player, ethernet card, 30 something games and haven't touched it in months. There was one game over the holidays for it I had any interest in, Metroid, and the only game for it I have any interest in since then was RE4. However since I haven't played RE:Remake, RE:0 and RE:CVX for the Cube which are gathering dust I'll wait until it's $20 then it can gather dust too.
This system has been so close to sale so many times for me it's not even funny. I could pretty much trash my PS2 too if it weren't for Rez and Amplitude.
The Xbox, only because of Live, is all I would truly miss if I got rid of it.

I agree completely. New RPGs are all about building up a large collection of things (spells, monsters, items), watching movies, or playing minigames (especially post VI FFs). People put such an emphasis these days on how long an RPG is. I don't have it in me to put over 100 hours into a game that's lacking a non-rehashed plot. I'm not saying every RPG that comes out is like this, but it seems to be the trend these days.

I just noticed that your thread title makes no sense. It says your GC is slowy, as in its slow or not reading disks or something, and this is making you hate other systems. So why do you hate them? Are they too good for you without slowyness?

The Gamecube I bought when it first came out. It was my first next-gen system. I had it for a month, and I enjoyed SSBM and Star Wars.
Then I traded it in for a PS2, which was just coming into it's own with Twisted Metal, MGS2, GTA3, etc.
I enjoyed it for a year, at which point I traded it in for a Gamecube, because Zelda and Mario and Metroid were out. I didn't like any of them, but I played it on again off again for another month or two, at which point I...
traded it in for an X-Box, with Buffy, Crimson Skies, Xbox Live, Mech Assault, Panzer Dragoon, Kingdom Under Fire, Red Dead Revolver, etc.
I am happier with the Xbox than with any other system since the SNES, and I owe a lot of that to LIVE.

The thing I really hate about Gamecube is the controller. The left analog stick ALWAYS comes loose for some reason.
