I have never played any of these. I want to get one for my Cube. I was thinking either 4 or underground. Underground 2 is too expensive. I can get 4 for $9 @ EB used and Underground at EB used for $16 or new at BB for $15.

What do you guys suggest?

I'd go with 4, but good luck playing with a gamecube controller

3 or 4.

And I have TH games for all systems, and the GCN controller is my favorite for it. It's the easiest and most comfortable to use.

i played 4 and underground with the cube controller and it worked fine. not as easy to do maunals or railslides as compared to the ps2 controller, but they're still hella fun games.
i owned both 4 and underground, and they were both a blast. either one you get i'm sure you're going to enjoy it.

IF anyone wants these games for ps2 lemme know. I could sell the whole series to them for some sort fo a deal.

1 2 3 or 4 on the PS2

for me it's impossible playing those games on any other controler...

if you want to do a kickfilp for a goal get underground, other wise 4 is a hell of alot better and way more challenging, not to mention the underground story just blew.

I would probably suggest 3 or 4 to start off with, then if you like that type of game, definitely check out underground to see how they took the series into a new level.

Same here, though I can play any of the THPS games on a DC controller. The GCN isn't bad but I just don't like it. The Xbox is tied for th worst with the N64 controller when it comes to the Tony Hawk games.

Alos I would go with either 3,4, or underground since you don't have one of the older systems. 3 and 4 are the best with underground just coming in behind them.

I've played all the Tony Hawks except Underground 2, across various consoles. I think Tony Hawk 2 was the best one for it's time. It's a little hard going back without the revert, but I think it's the most balanced game in the series, considering the level design vs. the moves. It just takes more time and a better eye to find big combo lines without the revert. So first of all, assuming you don't have an Xbox (for THPS2X), my choice would be to get a Dreamcast, VMU and Tony Hawk 2 all for $25.

I think Tony Hawk 3 was the last great Tony Hawk (remember I haven't played Underground 2). 4 was good, but I didn't care too much for the free roaming GTA wannabe style. There's just something about getting great at those 2 minute runs, beating everything the first time that's really satisfying in THPS3. I didn't really care for Underground, but I did appreciate the difficulty.

Edit: Personally, I think the series is playable on all consoles. Heck, even the GBA's control scheme worked for me.

From all the responses, it looks like 4 is a good starting point. I like that idea cause 4 is cheaper. :)

THPS 3 is my favorite, but I wouldn't play it on GCN.

OK first off I do have a XBOX but I don't know what THPS2X is (I assume it's Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 something.

Second, where do I get a Dreamcast, VMU and Tony Hawk 2 for $25?

Third, what's a VMU?

Sorry, don't mean to be a noob.

THPS2X is tony hawk's pro skater 2X, it was only released for xbox and has an extra level. the VMU is just a dreamcast memory card. and ebgames.com sells a DC for $20, VMU for $2 and either tony hawk game for $5

So would it be better to buy the xbox game or dreamcast thing? I don't know if I want to start with another system just for one game. The reason I was leaning toward GC is we have two of them. This way, if my son wants to play it, he can play in the other room. Besides, I rarely have enough time to get really good at any of these games, I just realised I didn't have a skateboard game and wanted to give it a try.

none of the above.

Actually, in THPS 2X, you get THPS 1 and 2, as well as the extra level. And I don't entirely agree on the Xbox as the worst controller next to the N64, altough the PS2 is better, it' far from the worst I believe. And yes, I've played THPS on every system it's come out for. (Yes, even handheld versions.)

I say Underground or 3 those were my two favorites.

Heh. I bought a Dreamcast at $150 for THPS2, and was thoroughly contented (of course, other games followed). But 2X includes 1, and lets you do the manual in those levels. It's the better option. Since you have an Xbox, you might as well THPS2X at some point. It's pretty dirt cheap AC, and no version of THPS 1 or 2 is available on GCN, anyway.

I personally thought the series peaked with THPS2. I spent the most hours on that game. I'd recommend 3 however.

tony hawk games are in this order: (i have not played thug 2 yet...but i do own it Xop)

2
1
4
thug
3

i enjoyed all of them, but 3 was definetly the worst of the bunch, id say get 4, its good and cheap

I'd say THPS 2/2X or 3. I played THPS 2 the most out of all the TH games and it's still my favorite of them all.

I have THPS3 and 4 for my Cube and THUG2 for my Xbox.

I've spent most of my time with THPS3, I just seem to like that one the most.
I also perfer the Cube controler over the others. I could never get use to the PS2 controler so I never bother to buy a TH game for my PS2.

I'd definately choose 3 over 4. I've also played both games on the cube and while it takes some getting use to its managable. The biggest problem I had was that I was so use to the PS controller. Since you haven't played any of the other games on either the DC or PS you should have no problem adapting.

Best to Worst:
Undergorund
4
3
Underground 2
2
1

EDIT: By the way, I agree with others to not play on the Cube. I would suggest buying on PS2.

I would get 4. Its the only Tony Hawk game I have actually spent time playing. Apparently Underground is a really short game.

THPS4 was great! I loved it. Levels were really well designed; though I sometimes wished it were bigger.

After any of the Tony Hawk games, try SSX3! You'll love it!

The order I enjoyed them best was 1>4>3>2>THUG

I haven't played THUG2 yet, but if it's anything like the first, I won't like it.

THPS 2: Best overall, but insane difficulty deosn't exactly make it with Newbies in mind.

I'd say THUG 1 is more than sufficiant, adjustable diff level, as well as a tutorial (at least I think this one has a tutorial) makes this an ideal choice for first time hawksters.

BTW I sugest either picking it up on another system, or picking up a PS2 controllers and a controller adapter. Because as much as i love the ngc controller, it flat out sucks to play and Tony Hawk game with it.
