I just thought of a question while washing my hands...

If I were to purchase a year of Xbox Live now, how would it transfer over to the Xbox 2 if I were to purchase one at launch or very early in it's life? I'm assuming Microsoft is smart enough to carry over Live from Xbox to XboxNext, xbox 360 or whatever the hell its called.

I'm sure that existing Live accounts will be applicable to the next XB, as there's really no reason for them not to be.

they should carry over, because if someone renews a live account lets say may, and the xbox 2 comes out in like november, someone is gonna lose like 6 months of that account

Any idea on what the process might be?

Are you saying that, right out of the box, the next Xbox console -- whenver it's launched -- will have online capability and Live-enabled games compatible with the current XBL setup? Hmmm . . . :-k

How do you figure they would lose 6 months? It's not like Microsoft is making you "upgrade" to the new console and keeping you from accessing and playing your existing library of XBL games over the current Live setup.

Immediate support of Xbox Live is one of Microsoft's most important assets in the new machine. Any difficulties in transitioning will squander much of that, so I'm inclined to think they're making every effort to make this a simple task.

the only two features I care to have are backwards compatibility and XBL

They could also REFUND your money. I paid for my year subscription....then I got a great deal a year card. So, I entered that with 1 or 2 months left on my current sub, and they gave me like $10 back....it was nice & unexpected

I was just thinking about this question too. I would hope Microsoft would have xbox live for xbox2 at launch. I don't see why the current setup wouldn't work with xbox2.

I'm sure the process would involve the "account recovery" that's currently inplace...you simplly just re-enter some key account info and - POOF - your xbox live account is now on your Xbox2...

I'm almost certain they're make transferring over accounts possible and streamlined. However, what the hell do we know--we're not even certain (as the public) what the name for the next Xbox will be.

I'm certainly expecting that. Your account is simply access to their servers. There's no need at all to divide subscriptions. Like epobirs said, it's one of their main selling points for XB2. I imagine they'll have XB2 servers up and running on day one, provided there are Live enabled XB2 games at launch.

I agree, if the next Xbox has backwards compatability, that is all I will need to go preorder it, otherwise I just purchase all the old games I missed out on, an xtra Xbox and wait for the new system to drop in price.
