I just picked up two wavebird controllers at Kmart the other day and I was wondering how long do the batteries last?

i dont know for sure but i think its around 20-25 hours.
Edit: It has to be more than that, my guess is 35-40 hours.

I beat resisdent evil 4 and didn't need to change the batteries. I think it took me about 25 hours.

I'm 40 hours into Baten Kaitos and I JUST changed the batteries. Keeping in mind that this wasn't even the only game I've been playing on my GCN and that I use the wavebird exclusively during single player, I'd say about 60 hours. That was with Duracell.

it's a long time, i had my wavebird for about a year of on and off GC playing, i had to replace the batteries about 30 hours into tales of symphonia

It's a really long time; that's all I can say. I've had mine since the original Kmart Blue Light Sale and played a ton of games with them but haven't needed to change the baterries yet. I think that I just might get another pair at the next Kmart Sale since that would give me six controllers, and 4 wavebird multiplayer fun. :D.

Do the batteries drain if the system is on or is there an on/off switch on the controller itself?

on\off on the controller itself. The batteries last a very very very long time.

There's an on/off switch but they last a while. I have one question about them though, say I go somewhere (i.e. bathroom, do work, etc.) and leave my cube and controller on since I'm at a certain stage in the game and don't want to do it all over again, can the batterries go into a stand by type of a mode or do I have to make sure to turn it off?

you would have to turn it off i think. They do last a VERY VERY VERY long time though. One of my batteries just died and i owned it for like a year. I beat Tales which was like 40 hours and Paper Mario which was like 30 hours and thats not including multiplayer games of mario party and kart and tennis and all that good stuff. My other wavebird is still going but thats not the one i used in the rpgs.

Nintendo claims 100 hours.
That almost sounds too low. Mine lasted over a year, almost definitely well over 100 hours.

It's about 100 hours, assuming you aren't playing a completely button intensive game...

My time includes quite a bit of SSBM, NFL 2K3, Timesplitters 2, and MK:DD.

I have changed the batteries ONCE in my contoler in the last 2 years. I don't play as much as some, but that is still amazing.
But I do think the batteries are dieing, the controler isn't as... can't think of word... a sit use to.

I got through most of Prime 2 and through 75 hours of Baten Kaitos after my last change, and they're still going.

I just got my Wavebird for Christmas and I changed the batteries last week. I do play my Gamecube a lot though, about 20 hours into Tales, 10 into Harvest Moon, I played Paper Mario for 45 and my boyfriend maybe 15 on mine...not to mention a few times I forgot to turn it off. I'd say maybe 90-100 sounds about right.

I've only had to change the batteries once, and I've owned it since July of 2003.

My girlfriend bought me mine for Christmas 2003 because.... you know.... I was hinting about it pretty hard :D and I've changed the batteries once, this past October if I remember correctly. And I've put the thing through it's paces, trust me.
Just remember to turn it off if you're not using it. I think that's the secret. It's not hard to spot, the light's pretty bright. I know if it's on or not when I go to bed; before bed is when I do most of my gaming.

I have to agree with them - I've had my wavebird for probably a year and a half, and I think I'm still using the original batteries. If not, then *maybe* I replaced them once - but I don't recall ever changing 'em.

Huh? You mean sit? That's a hell of a typo.

I've had mine for over a year and the batteries haven't died yet. I mostly only use it for multiplayer though.
