I was shocked to see that the replacement cord was like this when I first got it, but it's not that bad. Just make sure to have enough space between cords on your surge protector.

You don't need to plug it into a surge protector really. It is it's own surge protector.

I got one of those too. It's not as wide as say a SNES or Genesis AC adapter. It looks like it's got a ground fault protector built into it. It kills me that it comes with its own manual. Are these shipping with new Xboxen as well?

I don't think so, the one I bought in 2004 didn't and they don't apparently have the same problem. But I suppose it's possible...

My Xbox is fairly new and it came with the same power hookups as the one I got at launch. I check on Xbox.com if I needed one and it said no. I assume that those power cables are just for replacement.

I got mine in the mail (at home) but won't be able to get it for a few weeks or so. Sucks to see it's that big... :(

How very odd that you all got that hideous wall-wart of a power cord.

My replacement arrived in a sealed plastic bag in a jiffy pouch- no instructions. No invoice, nothing at all. And it looks exactly like the old cord.

Great so the solution is a cord with a built in surge protector. That thing is really odd looking. Well, I guess mine will be coming this week.

Sounds like you got the original cord again.

For those who got that monstrosity would you mind posting the manufacture date of your Xbox? Thanks.

Mine is from August 2002. I believe MS stated that all Xbox consoles manufactured before October of 2003 are effected.

the larger cord is for older xbox systems, some of the later ones get a replacement cord that is similar to the original cord, the xbox plug end is a bit wider. my older xbox got the large cord, my dad's which is a year newer got the smaller cord.

What really pisses me off is it doesn't do anything to solve the problem.

All it is is a switch built inside a power cord. The PSU will still fry if you have one of the unlucky XBoxs, but instead of catching on fire, the damn thing just breaks.

I was just trying to see what the manufacture dates are for the ones that don't get the surge protector built in on the replacements.
