Where have you been?
People have been playing Phantasy Star Online for the Cube for years.
jeez.

finally theres a new kid in town.
Homeland
New Gamecube MMORPG
Should be nice to see something officially online esides PSO,
and a style mixing Animal Crossing and Katamari is all you need to say to get me to stare.

Ye but I hate the style of the game. Is there going to be a monthly charge?
That looks exactly like Animal Crossing!

Wow this game just exudes personallity...
Sadly, it will do very little to make people believe the GC is less "kiddy". Not that GC owners care anyway...

Homeland has been on my personal wishlist for a long time now...ever since I heard about it in late 2003. I'm so glad that it is actually gonna pull through and make it out of development hell.
Hello to mister brown Gumby in that picture.

If you've played Animal Crossing, you'll have a good idea of the idea behind Homeland. It's like that, but with online capabilities. It's a roleplaying game in the truest sense...you're playing a role, online. Read up on it through the links in the original post.

there is no monthly fee, one person has to act as the server.

Big N might as well package the broadband adaptor with the game, like they did with Donkey Konga with the Bongos. Animal Crossing came with a Memory Card right?
Homeland looks to be the true 'Animal Crossing' for the GC, since AC was meant for the N64.
So now, GC games that are online capable are how many?
1) PSO ep1&2
2) PSO ep1&2Plus
3) Mario Kart:DD
4) 1080 Avalanche
5) Homeland*
*pending release
not quite 'GOING ONLINE.' thanks, but it got my attention, and my hopes up.
GameCube ownership (when compared to PS2 and XBox) has been like:
1) Watching sports without instant replay.
2) Watching adult films with censorship.
3) Watching movies on DVD at home only on full-screen and without extra features or 5.1 DPLII.
4) Drinking a non-alcoholic drink at a bar or club.
5) Calling 'walking' an exercise/work-out.
for the younger crowd:
6) Eating cereal without milk.
7) Waiting at the bus circle, and your parents are the last to arrive.
8) Catching all the Pokemon, except Pikachu.
9) Not old enough to drive a car to go on a date.
10) Not having enough money to buy the things you want.

To be honest, Chunsoft has yet to release very much of anything regarding specifics. Looking through the main website, however, one can clearly see that HomeLand offers something unique
why do people get their hopes up. NIntendo will never allow this game to come out at least here in the USA. Nintendo has said time and time again that it has no plans on taking the gamecube online and i highly doubt Nintendo will put tons of money to put the gamecube online now with the new systems coming in 2006/2007
it would of been a smart game for gamecube 2, but with the new systems coming in 1-2 years this game will never come out. and if this game does come out this will just be like Panzer dragoon saga for the saturn. Great game but few to noone buys it since everyone is on the newer systems or keeping their money for the new systems
I mean do you really expect nintendo to ramp up the modems and put all that money into a dead system if this game comes out the time the XBoX 2 , and PS3 hit the market

Think about this though....If they are taking the DS online...it may not be that hard to take the Cube with it. It may give Nintendo the needed boost to push them foward into the next gen.

Noi, there will be no monthly charge since a person's gamecube will act as a server for the people who are playing with them.
so you could set up a server for only people you like, and then i wouldn't be able to connect until one night when your mother gives me your IP address.

wow, all of you are going to buy a NA for one game?
joeposh
02-25-2005, 08:00 PM
If it's truely free of a monthly fee I'd buy it. There's no online game that I like enough to pay a monthly fee for (A service like Xbox live that allows you to play a wide variety of games is another issue), but a one time fee for a BA that I may eventually find additional uses for (some interesting programs are in development that may allow you to play any multiplayer gamecube title online) is something I can definately justify.

I did it for FFXI... and I would assume that some people bought Xbox's because they wanted to play Halo (2).

A law instituted after WWII requireing the censoring of genetilia in media. They apparently have no trouble hanging on to it.
So wait is this actually Animal Crossing online? Okay I guess it's not but I suppose it will certainly appeal to people who liked it. Feels like a very odd creation ingeneral, I can imagine people shutting down their server and kicking 30 people because it's "bed time" (sorry I couldnt help but say that) it's just ......odd.

Hmm, the only way I'm getting this is if a couple of things happen:
1. it comes with a broadband adaptor (uh...does nintendo even MAKE these anymore?)
2. Its free to play online, no monthly fee.
Sorry, I've been too disappointed in the past by Nintendo's attitude toward online gaming to pay an online monthly fee for a game or to go out and buy a seperate BBA. No way will I be importing this sucker, either, even though my GC is capable of playing japanese games.

the cube hasn't really had anything worth paying a monthly fee on, PSO to this day has not been worth it, it's just a futuristic Diablo. Aside from that I can hardly think of any other games that even USE the broadband adaptor, so it's more than just Nintendo. I mean atleast they released a device for the internet even if they personaly didnt use it atleast it was open for other develoeprs to and yet they really didn't do much.

Consider what running a Homeland server requires. Unless you're going to have limited hours of operation when your players can be connected, you are pretty much giving up the use of that GameCube. This means you either won't miss it or are willing to spend the money for an extra unit with BBA. Market trends would indicate the former situation is more likely.

Also consider that little or no details have been released on how hosting will work. It's possible that there would be failover to another GC if the host disconnects. It probably won't matter anyway, since I doubt this game is coming to the US.

I wouldn't say that the Xbox or PS2 have taken a much different approach than Nintendo. Sure the Xbox and PS2 have online-enabled games, but the majority of their games are meant to be played offline with just a couple of online modes thrown into the mix. Nintendo's strategy seems to be similar to Sony's (at least Sony right now) in that they don't want to charge users for most online content, unlike Microsoft.
The fact that Nintendo finally seems to be embracing online play for their future consoles (DS and Revolution) is a good thing, IMO. Even if you don't use it, it's still there for people who want it. I know Nintendo lost a lot of sales of multi-console games b/c of lack of online play.
b3b0p
04-15-2005, 09:48 PM
Perhaps more so Xbox then Playstation, but anything that requires a centralized controled server by some corporation (Microsoft or the game creators) is the worst thing for games. I have no intention of paying for a game that requires fees to play.
Currently, I can pull out my Earthbound cart and pop it in and play. However, in a few years, I doubt anyone will be pulling out their copy of FFXI to play. Not because the game is not fun, but because they can't!
TheGreat2nd
04-17-2005, 11:43 PM
Never.
It's gonna be for the Revolution when it goes online.
They will delay it forever, release it on the new console online, and then die out because Animal Crossing will be online.
