I have Comcast. It works great too. I haven't had a problem with it yet ever since I signed up with the service nearly two years ago. I pay $46 a month.
Also note that most (if not all) college dorms with Internet access work fine as well. I get very good speeds in my dorm through their broadband connection.

Wouldnt it be smarter to compare only services you have in your area? If you do have all of those options available to you, I am SOOO jealous.

i have SBC DSL and it works great (at least for nhl 2k5 and halo 2). there's occasional lag, but i'm pretty sure it has to do with other people's internet connections and not mine.

SBC Yahoo! DSL here for over a year with Live and it works great. I only pay $26.99 a month for it.
I have Cox 1.5mb and it works fine. Never had a problem with Xbox Live or the Internet.

SBC Yahoo DSL even has a special rate that will let you get an XBOX Live 12 month Starter Kit and XBOX Live for 12 months at $40 bucks a month. But I think it is cheaper just to kit yourself and use the 27 bucks amount service. It still works awesome.

You do know that optimum is the best cable connection in america, right?
Also, I use optimum and 45 is about right.
Also, MrFriday, does you internet connection sometimes go down and then you have to unplug your cable modem and restart the computer and then plug the cable modem in again?
Also, do you have iO? Because if you do, does your guide work properly? I think its my cable box, im thinking of calling in to get another, newer version.

I have cable internet with Adelphia. It's pretty good but sometimes it can be a little touchy, not so much from traffic but from random line/server issues. The throughput I get is amazing though, I can play Call of Duty or UT2004 online while my brother is playing Halo 2 online with no lag or slowdown for either of us.

Thanks for all of the help guys. Does SBC Yahoo DSL support Ethernet modems, and if they do, will they replace my USB modem with one?
Also, what kind of connection do you have to Live? Direct, Router, or Windows ICS???

There's no such thing as an "ethernet modem." With SBC, the modem will run to your phone line on one end, and to an ethernet port on your router via a CAT5 cable.
If your USB modem is 56k, then I imagine you will simply stop using it once you have SBC, since DSL is a whole lot faster. Windows ICS, a router, or a direct connection should work fine for XBox Live, provided you set them up right. I recommend getting a router for XBL rather than using ICS (which sets your computer up as a router) so that your performance will not be at all dependent on the performance of your PC.
As for internet connections, it doesn't really matter if a service is on that list. Basically, any decent DSL or cable service will do just fine. I have SBC Yahoo and never get any slowdown. I've also played on an office T1 line and had no problems.

I think I'm going with the router connection.
