I am using Bittornado to download something, and at first it was downloading at 15kb/s then 1kb/s and now 0kb/s. I am using DSL and any idea why its doing that? Any answers are appreciated.

Thanks

It all depends on how many people are sharing your torrent and how many active seeds are going. It will alternate your speeds all the time. It's the price you pay for having such a huge file sharing system

It may not be seeded well, or there might be a firewall on either end that is impeding the transfer. There's a program that lists all seeders/leechers, but I don't know what it is since I usually download from places that have them listed, anyway.

Well given that a majority of the host sites have been shut down by all sorts of legal bullcrap, it's hard as hell to get a good download on anything, save eDonkey and overnet (if you're looking for torrent DLs). DSL's not going to make much of a difference, unless you manually configured your settings and choked your bandwidth/ flooded it.

Go out and learn how BitTorrent works. That's just the nature of the beast.

Ok, someone just told me I need to open Port: 6881-6889 or the "port forwarding". Any Ideas on how I do this?

I found the thing in my router for it, it says

IP PORT RANGE _____to_____
Protocol: TCP or UDP or GRE
IP ADDRESS:

So what do I put in what spots?

no one knows?

6881-6889 for your port range under TCP. This will make you connectable and hopefully yield better speeds

I do that, but then it says "Invalid IP Address" and wont let me enter it. What should I put for the IP address?

what kind of program r u using, i find that bittornado experimental version is the best because you can adjust speeds and other settings and i usually get 150kbs on dsl

Put your local IP address as the IP. Go to the command prompt type in "ipconfig" and that will be your local IP that your router assigned to your computer. Also what router do you have?

did u put in ur computers ip address into the field? there should be a field for the port range, another field for tcp/udp and there should be a third where ur supposed to put in an ip address, namely the ip address of the comp ur using bittorrent with.

if u dont know the ip address to ur comp do this, go to the start menu, click on "run", type in "command", and a black window should pop up. from there type in "ipconfig". this should display ur computers ip address. put this ip address into the ip address field back on ur routers port forwarding page.

i did this back when i was having the same problem as u with bittorrent and it definetly improved my dll speeds. although some files will still download slowly cause of a lack of seeders.

It's happening because you're not clever. Go forward your ports.

I put the Ip address in and the 6881-6889, but now It wont even connect with the torrent, and now I cant get connected to StarCraft of AIM. I removed what I did and it still wont work. Any help on how to fix it?

whoknows, you make me want to hit you in the head.

The speed of the torrent depends on how many people are seeding/leeching. Speeds fluctuating is NORMAL.

Don't worry, I already hit myself on the head.

I know this is dumb, but did you try restarting? Or maybe your firewall is screwed up?

If you got a router, UpNp.
Universal Plug N Play.
Turn it on.

Also, set up your firewall and XP Firewall. UDP and TCP on.
Then, check if the circle in BitTornado is green, not yellow.

I think you're also not considereuing what your downloading. I downloaded Robot chicken the day after it was aired and I got 200 kbps. But that just came out so everyone was doanloading it and there were a lot of seeds.

When I try tp get older stuff I only get 40-60. So it may be what you're trying to download too.
