e.

This is a couple of weeks old, but I never saw it posted on CAG and thought that the CAG commmunity should know about it.

I have no idea why Lavasoft would just all of a sudden start accepting WhenU as not spyware. It's probably one of the most commonly known spyware out there. Very strange. I wonder what they'll delist next, Gator, CoolWebSearch, etc.

I am a great supporter of Ad-aware and Lavasoft, but due to these actions on their part, I think I might have to rethink my use of them. It might be time for me to permanently transfer to Spybot or one of the various other tools. Hope this article helps some people.

Here's the link to the article. (http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/spyware/whenu_detection_dropped.php)

And here's a link to a great pic that has been spreading the net that I found at the p2pforums. It shows what Microsoft's Antispyware tool is really trying to get. (http://img95.exs.cx/img95/272/mozillaadware4vs.png)

That's some interesting info in that article and that pic is just hilarious. I'm guessing it was probably photoshopped.

This is highly unusual, as Lavasoft typically lists the addition or removal of targets, when they announce that a new target database file is available for download. PestPatrol reportedly did announce their decision to remove WhenU's software as a target of their software but that announcement has disappeared from their web site.
Sketchy... very sketchy.

Lavasoft has reversed the decision to delist WhenU. A new article will cover this later today or tomorrow.
But... at least they are mending the problem.

M$ trying to convince users that Fire Fox is a threat is just plan wrong! :x I hope they get another anti-trust suit or something bad happens to them... Damn M$ is a bunch of ass monkeys!

That's just pathetic. I mean, first, firefox browsers wouldn't work with MS's site.. and now this? "May be vulnerable to a lack of security updates"? "May perform operations differently"?

So, by "may perform operations differently than the default browser", do they mean my browser might be stable? Because my default one loves to crash..

Oh come on. That pic has got to be fake.

If you don't use Ad-Aware and Spy-Bot, you should. Back when I used IE and actually got occasional spyware, they would both catch different things. Same case for when I'm fixing people's computers now.

I've seen that same pic probably at two or four sites that I frequent other than this one and they had the same pic. I believe that it was said to be photoshopped. I'll try to find the thread that said it later.

Edit: Seems like the link to the pic isn't working. What gives?

Edit Again: I found a link to another place that has the pic. Here's it is.http://fileshareworld.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/www.p2pforums.com/firefoxspyware.png

I use Firefox almost exclusively and I've never had problems with the MS spyware app. It's actually pretty decent.

How suspiscious. Does Lavasoft have anything to say on this?
