Last night I noticed that the wheel on my iPod wasn't scrolling properly (I had to click the >> button each time I went into a new folder to get the wheel to scroll) and I didn't think much of it but this morning when I went to grab my iPod, all the songs were gone from the menu. I plugged it into my computer and clicked on my iPod and all the songs appeared in the iTunes menu. WTF is going on? I can't listen to anything on the iPod. It's brand new (about 2 weeks old) and I had 2.1GB of music on there. I'm very annoyed. HELP!

Right click on the iPod and tell iTunes to synch it. That should load everything in your library to your iPod. Unless you've updated some weird setting or something.

It actually should synch automatically when you plug it in. Not sure why all your MP3s disappeared...

Update: You didn't remove all your MP3s from your computer's library for some reason did you? If you do then the next time your iPod synchs it will remove all your MP3s from the iPod, too.

Not sure about clicking on the iPod and seeing the tracks in iTunes that way, but not through the LCD.

I have it set to manual upload for getting stuff to my iPod because I delete CDs off of my hard drive after they are on the iPod. It was working fine yesterday. I don't get it. I could try importing more CDs and transfering them to my iPod but it takes forever... iTunes sees the songs on the iPod but the folders on the iPod itself are completely empty...

Do you have a small HD? If not I would advise you just keep them on your hard drive. Even if you have a small HD I'd personally rip a bunch of MP3s (or AACs if that's what you use) to a CD before wiping them from your drive. Will save a ton of time if you do end up needing to re-rip your stuff.

That's not gonna help your current problem though.

One thing you could try is downloading a 3rd party iPod manager that lets you grab the tracks from the iPod and transfer them to your HD. If they are still on the iPod that should let you get them back on your HDD, then you can reimport them using iTunes. I haven't used one myself, but I know there are several free ones out there.

Does seem strange that you can see the tracks in iTunes, but not from the actual iPod itself. Hopefully that's not indicative of some sort of defect in your iPod and it's just some sort of odd setting or something?

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Man, you are having nothing but bad luck with this thing.

I am in the midst of technological hell.

1. My cable has been in and out over the course of the last few weeks and this weekend all the shows on my DVR went bad. They were still there but I wasn't allowed to watch them. Every show over the past 2 weeks that I didn't see because I've been working late doesn't work.

2. My Internet connection at home has been out for 5 days and no one can come out to the house until Wednesday. This is total crap. I had to work from my parents house all day on Saturday because I had work to do.

3. My DVD burner on my brand new Dell laptop does not work. The Dell CSR tells me "yeah, those things don't work too well." WTF is that? I've been trying to burn something for punq for oh, 2 months now and since I've given up I can't seem to remember to bring his blanks to work to mail them back to him...

4. I woke up this morning to go running (like I do every morning) and when I turned on my iPod there were no songs on it. I really almost started crying. Running with no music is painful.

4. The train was late (again) - It took me 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to work this morning (and it's supposed to snow like crazy this afternoon so who knows what the commute home is going to be like).

I've got an 80GB hard drive on my laptop so it's big enough I guess (bigger than my 40GB iPod anyway). I'll check into some 3rd party software to manage things. I hope it's not a problem with my iPod itself (although since it is so new I'd expect Apple to replace it at no cost). I wouldn't think to burn the AAC files to a CDR - I bet a ton of them would fit on one. Thanks for the help!

Heh...you do have it bad... I usually have bad luck too. Whenever I get something new, used or new it will have trouble. I bought a big screen TV, lug it into my house and then 3 hours later it has megnet damage on the screen for no reason so I had to replace it with another lug out/in trip.

My gamecube refused to play certain games when i forst got it and still wont let me play eternal darkness.

Dont even get me started on new computer parts/ systems.

Don't forget you don't know how to count numbers past 4
5 comes after 4 :o

Running with no music is fine, just listen to the birds chirping, taxis (if you are in the city), street noise, water running, and it's great to run in the snow :o

No internet sucks, but you could go without the DVR stuff.

You have bad luck, go get a shaman or something :o
