William Poole, an 18-year-old junior at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester, Kentucky has been arrested and charged with a felony of making terrorist threats.
The "terrorist threats" charge apparently stems from a short story Poole wrote for his English class, which he describes as "a fake story. I made it up. I've been working on one of my short stories, (and) the short story they found was about zombies. Yes, it did say a high school. It was about a high school over ran by zombies."

I doubt he has the money to fight it. But if he does it's definately a freedom of speech issue.

wow, and yet the suicidal kid who sits next to me in biology can get away with writing a story about "a cell who was neglected by his owner, so he turned into a cancer cell and killed his owner" when we had to write a children's book about cells

That's the most fucking stupid reason for arrest I've ever heard. It's a short story! About zombies!! I hope the charges are dropped and the cops get pistol-whipped for going through with this.

Wow... I wrote about pirates killing my fellow students and my teacher complained about my anology of 'tossing cookies' instead of simply saying vomiting...

In 7th grade we had to write halloween stories, and a kid told the whole class they could use him in their story. In mine he dressed up in a barney costume, wet his pants, got made fun of, beat up, chased, and eaten alive piece by piece (It was a person, forgot if the cannibal was living or dead though), I remember specifically I explained how his eyes were eaten. My english teacher almost rejected it (the class loved it, except for that kid who said to use him in the story, he hated it), but said she'd take it if I changed his name.
In 9th grade (same teacher again), we had to do an advertisement. I made an advertisement selling lessons on how to become a cannibal. She rejected that one (saying it was extremely disgusting), so I just changed around the wording and made it about lessons on how to fail.
I wrote a lot of other things like that, killing, eating people etc. I remember in 8th grade english we had to use vocab words in sentences, and every quiz my sentences would have a theme. One week my theme was impaling people.
Despite all those things no one once ever suggested that I was dangerous, or suggested I needed counseling because of my writings, let alone send me to one or call the cops.
edit: Just remembered another kid in my high school. My 9th grade english teacher made us write a news article about what we would be doing next year. She kept them and gave them back to us at the beginning of the next year (Well, our new teacher gave them to us). One of my friends wrote how he was going to blow up the school next february. Funny thing, we really did get a bomb threat in the middle of february just as he said, though the date didn't match. That kid was the school nurses son.

Back when I was a junior, my teacher actually encouraged us to write a suicide note for extra credit. My senior year for my creative writing class I wrote stories about pigs killing people, monkeys killing people, pretty much everybody in my stories died at one point or another.

That is really pathetic....
Then again, once in Health we were supposed to write about helping people with eating disorders, on a test, and I wrote about chasing them down in a car with a shotgun pointed out the window...but I didnt get arrested, just questioned by the principal and stuff...
Give me a break. It's what the kid needed. If you dig a hole, some fool will unfailingly come along and fall into it. What would you do if you ran that school? I'm guessing many of you would say something like,'Well, I can certainly tell when a story concerning zombies is fictional and has no bearing in reality." What if it had been a picture? What if it was a picture of armed figures entering a school from every exit? ...and if the "kid" said Oh no, those aren't armed men, sir, those are zombies and those aren't guns they're holding, they're mutations growing out of their arms? What if it was a poem that only spoke of fears "ripping like bullets through the halls of learning?"
Nobody has the time, money, or inclination to sift through mounds of reports on possible "danger cases" that would come out of the woodwork for a school of any signficant size...much less the willingness to put themselves on the line and risk misreading a "danger signal" if anything were to happen. Let those who are too slow to learn find out the hard way what "zero tolerance" means.

I can't remember, but where individuals mentioned? If individuals weren't mentioned then there is nothing odd about this.

Geez, if I'd gone to high school in today's oversensitive environment they'd have thrown me in a subterranean cell and filled in the access route except for a small tunnel to pass in food.
It got a lot more tolerable once they brought in broadband access.

So that's why California school kids consistently get the lowest test scores in the country...
Well, as long as they're not "loosers".

You don't really know the story here. For all we know he could have been in some accident, missed a couple of years of school, and just started catching up.
Don't judge those you don't know.

im shocked i made it out w/o a major problem, i graduated 4 years ago, and i was always comming into some kind of conflict with the school over some stupid crap, from what patches i wore to what papers id write (i wrote quite a few, several that were speeches that teachers did not read prior to the presentation, on how poorly the school system was structured and planned out) i really doubt i would be anything short but kicked out of school in the post september 11th world, since the rule seems to be that if you love freedom, you are a terrorist.
