I purchased the DS on launch day, which IMO was a bad decision on my part. What can I say I'm a 16 year old impatient guy who works and likes to spend money. Now I cant see games being developed for the DS one year from now. I believe the DS is already a failure and will end its short lived career in the next coming year. I honestly do not believe Nintendo thinks the DS is worthy and have a long shelf life. To date there is not one game that is a system seller and there looks to be only 1 game that I'm interested in, but when Nintendo makes a system they need a wider genre of games and well made ones also. Also so far only 2 games on the DS are ok and that's Mario and Wario this is in my opinion. The games on the ds offer almost zero replay value and become boring only a day after you purchase them. The DS is looking to be another failure by Nintendo going the same way as the Virtual Boy and the E-Reader. Shame on you Nintendo for screwing me out of my money and shame on me for purchasing this product. I'm not going to sell my DS any time soon because what you can get for it isn't worth it. I will be getting a PSP on launch day and Im still debating what to do, I have the system and 2 games paid off, Im 16 and a freakin workaholic so i can afford such an expensive hobby. I May just cancel my PSP preorder and wait to see if it will be successful, but who nose when i make my decision on March 24th. I know a lot of guys will be nasty when responding but that's cool with me but some may agree with me, im just curious.

Have you looked at the release dates for DS games?

The DS has had one of the GREATEST LAUNCHES EVER, they're on pace to sell 6 million systems worldwide by april 1st.

3rd party companies will HAVE to make games for it with an installed base that large.

i agree the DS library is horrific right now, and i think they rushed putting it out, just so it would beat psp to the market, instead of waiting to have more then like 5 games available at launch. i think it will have like 5 or 6 high quaility games by years end, but i think its appeal will fade fast if they put out the next GB this year

The N64 had a slow as hell launch. Beyond Mario 64 and maybe Pilot Wings nothing was worth owning. Give it time. Plus, I'm sure Nintendo is withhold it's arsenal till the PSP gets released in the US. I'm sure E3 will be the flood gates for DS software. Just take it slow, I understand how your feeling but relax. DS is an awesome system and the awesome games will come soon.

I don't know why you would be disappointed really. Lots of lauches are historically slow. The N64 had only Mario 64 and Pilotwings for the longest time there. And even the PS2 didn't come right out of the gate great. It took it probably a year to a year and a half to really see the good games come. It takes time for these things and you can bet that there will be some games out for it and soon, especially with E3 coming. Nintendo will probably let the flood gates out then. It almost has a 6 million user base. That's HUGE! Even more so if you think about the short timespan it has been out. Third party developers are going to have to acknowledge that. And there are many games coming out down the pipeline that look good. Plus Metroid Prime.

Yeah, it was great in many respects. It gave us the best game of all time, OoT, I know this is arguable but most poeple would agree. Some many amazing games were made for the N64 that I would absolutely say it was a great system.

I agree with all you said. The N64 didn't have a flood or barrage of games come out for it but it still had plenty of good games. I still play it for Goldeneye and Star Fox alone.

Does anyone know by any chance how many N64s were sold?

I though the N64 was pretty much looked on as a failure. I know it is by me, and the huge amount of people the found much better quality in the Playstation 1.

Out of all my classic systems, the N64 is the only one that I never go back to hook-up, and play games on. With the exception of Zelda, Mario, and maybe Pokemon Snap, the system was garbage. Everything else has been done on other systems, and much better.

Sales wise, I don't know if you can qualify the N64 as a failure. According to this guy http://forums.gaming-age.com/showthread.php?t=33628 the N64 sold comparably well. Not sure how accurate his numbers are, but if they are true Nintendo had a little less than a 1/3 rd of the market.

thats what im sayin, good games are on the way. and imho the psp launch line up is nothing to brag about, sure there more games but most of them dont interest me. i really doubt nintendo will drop the ds, they have a huge base and it was one of the most sucsessful system launches ever. and people shouldnt be worried about a new gba, because itll just be a gba, not a new system. besides, itll be worth it when zelda ds comes out, youll see.

I think the DS will be more along the lines of the gameboy color than anything else.

See, the GBC's heyday was short lived and there were really only a handful of good games made exclusively for it, but those that were good were extremely good. Like the Zelda Oracle games, or Metal Gear Solid, or Warioland 3. It was by no means a failure, but just sort of an in-between step between gameboys. The DS should be similar. There's even a decent chance the new gameboy will be backwards compatible with the DS. Or the DS will just be dirt cheap by then anyway. But if nothing else there'll be a new an all new original Mario game for it (the first new 2D mario since Yoshi's Island over a decade ago), and a new Castlevania that looks pretty amazing.

So far the DS is far too expensive given how few good games exist for it, but once it goes down in price and more good games come out for it it'll probably be worth it. Give it a year/ year and a half, and it might prove to be a pretty nifty system.

Give it time.

Interest in DS has hit an all time low. Used DS's are edging ever so closely to under $100. This will all change this summer and fall, when Mario Kart, Viewtiful Joe, Animal Crossing, Metroid Prime, and Castlevania are all out on DS. I'll have one by this fall, just for those games (or so I hope). I think it was a gimmick system (Virtual Boy, anyone?).. but it'll be interesting to see what happens to it.

Dump the thing before it becomes worthless in a year. It was and always will be a gimmick system.

I understand your frusteration, but did you get the DS to be your main system? Just play the few good games out now (Mario, Wario, and Feel the Magic) and go back to your systems in the meantime. You can always play GBA games on the DS and there are tons of great GBA games.

Just be patient, good titles will start to trickle out and I can just about guarentee that by the end of the console's life cycle there will be at least 10 must own games and probably another 10-20 really good games. Just be patient and don't rely on it exclusively for your games fix.

I don't know about quality of upcoming games and all that (haven't played handhelds since the original gameboy and I just bought a gameboy player last week to play a few gba games), so I'll say this more as a general consumer than a CAG.

The PSP is a freakin marvelous piece of consumer electronics. It's easily the greatest threat to the ipod, portable dvd players and gameboys ever, all rolled into one. If they ever make that UMD format open enough for a UMD writer for PCs, I would not need any other piece of small electronic device. It'll be bought by casual gamers and people who don't even game. And once it develops that massive market share (and it will), it'll be flooded with games like we've never seen before, handheld or not. And some of them will even be good, in numbers large enough to beat Nintendo.

I'm thinking of buying one at launch, and you know what? I don't even want to buy a game with it. I don't even know what games are coming out for it, besides metal gear acid. It's going to get that type of response from the 18-35 crowd, the kind of response that the ipod has.

So what does that say about the DS?

poopy

I'm extremely happy with my DS. Years from now it will be remembered fondly along with systems like the Saturn and Dreamcast which were much maligned when they were in their heyday. People don't recognise a good thing 'til its gone and that's a fact.

I wholehertedly agree. the DS was a horrid impulse buy on myt part on due to feel the magic and the scarcity. The treasure hunt for it made me want to get it even more and when I found it in stock retail price I just picked it up. Now i'm having trouble selling it since PSP is lookin so much sweeter....

I ended up with this similar problem with the gamecube. The only reason I ketp it was because of smash bros melee....

Its because the DS has a much strong Holiday offering then the PSP. People like franchises and the DS has it with all the Mario games arrived as well as Metroid, Castlevania, Animal Crossing, and of course Mario Kart WiFi. PSP has some great titles as well, but nothing really classified as a system seller besides GTA which may or may not translate very well on a handheld. Just wait till kids bring that to school with them.
