The father of the very successful Playstation has resigned. He could really hype up his machines. I still remember a lot of the hype that came with the PS2. I wonder why he decided to resign now. He's been a very integral part of the game division.

Sony announced that Howard Stringer will assume the position of Chairman, Group CEO and Rep CEO of Sony Corporation, he will run Sony's overall group business operations on a global basis from headquarters in both New York and Tokyo. Dr. Ryuji Chubachi will assume the position of Rep CEO, President of Sony Corp. and CEO of Electronic Business Group.

- Ken Kutaragi, the father of PlayStation, will resign from the board on June 22, and in future he will continue to run Sony Computer Entertainment.

I think it's less that he's leaving the game division and more that he's taking a higher position within SCE. Weren't there talks some time ago that he was next in line for top-tier executive status?

Yaeh I believe so but I guess I should have clarified what I meant in my OP. I mean, why would he resign now when they are just about to release the PSP in America and later the PS3. I'd think that he'd wait till afterward.

Edit: The Gamespot article was more thoruogh and cleared up a bit of my confusion. You probably should read it first.
