View Full Version : I Have GT3, PGR 1&2, RallisSport 1&2 and Apex: Is GT4 Worth the $50?

I know this is one of those series that someone on GAG got despite it being full price. I have those driving games as well as the Midnight Clubs, Ridge Racers, Outrun and Midtown Madness.
Is this game significantly better than the sims/prequels I've mentioned? I'm interested in feedback from driving game nuts like myself. Oh, and don't bother telling me drift racers like RR, Outrun and MM aren't sims.
I just want to know if this game truly lives up to its reputation and reviews.

I haven't played it, but I'm going to vote "No". There are very few games for which I'd pay $50, and that one isn't even in the running. Play your other racing games for now, then pick it up later for a lot less. /Generic CAG answer.

I'm very hesitant to pay that for the game. Throw in the Meijer Buy One Get One Half off sale though and I'd be there. There isn't a sale announced of that type by the way.

Wait for a price drop, it is a good game I played it at my bros house but I didn't think it was that great. You know this game will be GH soon enough just like GT3.

Get it at CompUSA for $38. It's a bit less than full price. Also, I'd say GT4 is considerably better than either Rallisport game, PGR1 or APEX. Truth be told it's a very different game from PGR2 which I enjoyed a whole lot, mostly for the Live play. Frankly, I don't think it's a huge step up from GT3 but for some reason I've felt more compelled to play it than GT3.
Hope I helped.
EDIT: If you truly consider yourself a driving game nut, get it. You will not regret it. I rarely pay full price for a game, but I loved GT3 so much I knew I had to get GT4 as soon as I could.
EDIT 2: Oops, CompUSA sale is over.

BTW, if you're into racing then those games you listed are incredible. Especially PGR. I'm a big fan of RSC series, too. Driving though, then that goes to GT.

It's a great game but it's too similar to GT3 to justify $50 (I have it by the way).

I need more than just realistic cars and lots of courses in my racing games. I need something different to keep me interested. Some of my favorite racers are Destruction Derby 2, Burnout 3, and Pro Race Driver. I got GT3 back in the day, and barely played a few hours. I have no interest in 4.
If you like sims, I'd wait to see what the word is on other upcoming sims -- mainly Farza Motorsport and Konami's Enthusia. Both have potential, and excel in places Gran Turismo doesn't.

GT4 rocks, so much to do it's crazy. I love using my thumb drive to save pics and use them on my computer. I'm not interested in Forza or Enthusia at all. I love my arcade racers, but GT is just king of the racers. I have to stop and honor it.

IF you're looking for racing, don't go with GT. Still annoyed you can bump cars with no penalties.

Thanks for the feedback. This game was going to be a must get for me until they canned online play. Now it's fallen to a maybe or a $20 based on your comments.
I too am looling forward to Forza. Say what you want about having to pay for Xbox Live or some of their downloads but MS makes the greatest online games for consoles bar none, the PS2 can't hold a candle to it. They also dominate racing IMHO with their exclusives.
The comparison from driving to racing games was apt. I really don't want to accelerate to 100 MPH then stop on the X in a certain amount of time. To me those are the most boring and pointless exercises ever put in any driving game.

Definately, definately not.
You can use a third party program to get online with it, but still.. the game's totally not worth $50. Forza will be EXCELLENT.. if they can fix the turning controls. GT4 is great if you're a car nut.. but to me, it's GT3 with prettier graphcis and still no crashes. I understand why there'sno crash.. but still, not even a crash sound? "The real driving simulator".. right. Save your money. PGR2 and Rallisport Challenge 2 are better than GT4.. IMO, anyways.

Will Forza have body damage? If so, sign me up!

I was excited for it, because the first time you ever watch one of those GT4 trailers, it looks like live footage. Then you get the chance to play it and look at the backgrounds and textures.... they're flat as hell, minimal resolution, pathetic.
PGR2 and Rallisport 2 are way better, and cost $10 less new.

I hope so too, we'll see what happens when it finally comes out though.
On a side note, you always hear all this shit from developers about how hard it is to get car manufacturers to sign-off on permittting visible damage on their cars, but somehow the Project Gotham series has pulled it off twice, AND managed to get both Porches and Ferrraris in the same game which is usually another massive pain in the ass. Go figure? :-k

Sounds like you have a shitload of games you have to play anyway. It is a lot like GT3, except more fine tuned. Sorta like an expansion pack, instead of a full sequel. Save your money for Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition. Thats where its at.......
