Need information on Alienware Pcs and prices, not necessarily the cheap price

Im looking for a good PC, I heard Alienware is a good gaming computer, so finally I can get into all the good PC games, up until now the only computer game ive been able to play and enjoy is Warcraft 3 the frozen throne and even with a cable modem it lags. So I wanted some information on Alienware like is it good for things other than gameing, like how is its internet capabilites, and is it good for like doing hw, IE encyclopedia and wordprocessors, basically a rundown of what i can do. Im not computer savy, please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!-

It will do it all. They use top of the line name brand parts. They are over priced IMO.

Nice but way overpriced. You're better off building it on your own. There are guides all over the internet and if you need help, check out some PC Hardware forums. Will save you a lot more money.

You can go the retail route and buy a Dell system when the right coupons come along.

As for capabilities, any old computer will surf the web and do word processing without a hitch. No worries there.

i got an ABS PC (www.abspc.com). it was like 500 cheaper than alienware, but still excellent quality, components, speed, and support. alienwares are good, but they are expensive. there are cheaper alternatives.

an abs m5 got a 95% in PCG, which ties it for highest pc score ever. alienware never got this score.

i suggjest in the order given, 1.build your own(you know what goes into it and that it is going to be top of the line, plus you save some money 2. buy from www.ibuypower.com (relly cheap place that builds with awsom parts and the best kick ass cases [you need to purchace your own os when buying through here]) 3 my 3rd choice is buying from alianware or abs this would be if your total computer impaired and you dont know your ddr ram to ddr the dance game

DONT BUY ALIENWARE, ITS CRAP! I ORDERED FROM THEM AND BOUGHT A $2800 ALIENWARE M and IT IS A PIECE OF CRAP.

Instead don't get ripped off and order off www.ibuypower.com. Its cheaper, better, more reliable, and a hell alot cooler.

If you can't build ur own comp, I suggest ibuypower. You can configure a computer with 1 gig of memory, 64bit amd 3200+, and 9800 pro for around 1k. Plus you can get mods and crap included. Watch for the coupons.

A couple questions about that:

1. How long does it take in general to build your own PC?

2. How much cheaper is it to build your own compared to buying a top of the line one?

3. On a scale from 1-10 how difficult is it to build your own PC?

1. On actually building it, maybe 1-2 hours tops. If you're really good at setting up computers, 30 minutes is possible

2. Quite a bit, it really depends on how cheaply you get each individual piece of hardware. http://www.fatwallet.com might help with computer deals (if you're too lazy to build your own)

3. For people that know their hardware it's very easy. But people who don't will find it difficult. I suggest getting a friend who knows computers in and out (none of these "iffy" guys) and get him to help you if you don't have that much computer knowledge. Setting the correct jumpers and correctly setting up the processor, is pretty important. I can't give you a number value, simply because it varies from person to person

1) Putting hardware together in the case - about 10 minutes. Installing OS - 1 to 2 hours.

2) Much cheaper considering you are paying less than retail. The only downside (if you consider it one) is there is no tech support.

3) It's like building Legos. You just piece things together. I'd give it a 6 tops. It's a bit difficult your first time around but shouldn't be too hard. You can always call up a buddy that has done it before to do it for you.

Heatsink installation is considered to be the hardest part. There's a guide you can check here:

The guide is for Socket A CPUs but the idea is the same for the other chips.

For those looking to build a top of the line PC, you should wait a while. There is a lof of new hardware coming out. 939 pin Athlon 64s, NV40, R420, nForce3 250GB, etc.

I ordered a laptop from them, and tried for 2 weeks to return it. No responce to emails, online chat said some one would call me, or I woud be on hold in excess of a hour. I disputed the charge with my credid card company and won. Right now I am typing on my free dell laptop. Past experience from co workers, if you have a software problem, there solution is to put in th e restore cd! Can you believe that! The worst part is they dont tell the customer that the restore cd will wipe out everything! If you buy the extended warranty, they will fight like hell to keep some one from coming out to your place to fix it. My friends Grandmother had a dell, and they wanted her to install a new hard drive herself! Plus %90 of their support comes from India. Technical problems are hard to discuss with some one who doesnt speak english as their native language.

Dell uses old parts, thats how them sell those things so cheap.

I never said Dell was the best route but when the right stackable coupons come along, and you aren't looking for something fancy, Dells can get really really cheap.

3) My parents are paying for it
4) Their support is top notch
5) The reputation that Alienware carries
6) The case looks beautiful
7) Competetive pricing, the ABS I priced cost the same after my 100$ Mail in rebate.
8) Their in house tweaking is superb
