So... tomorrow at around 10:15 PST (2:15 EST???) we all know (or should know) that Iwata is giving the GDC keynote entitled "The Heart of the Gamer". It is CONFIRMED that he will talk about DS online and will DEMONSTRATE a game (a new game I believe) online there. Here are some links for your enjoyment. Speculate.

Interview with Reggie (VP of NOA)

Well,.... given the horrid excuse about the "developers", not making use of Nintendo's obvious attempt at bringing the GC online,.... just makes me sick.

The announcement about WarpPipe's wireless setup is old news.
It'll stir up the casual TURDS,... but we the fanboys have known, and awaited this day since summer '04.

Animal Crossing should be a no brainer,... but IMing, day planners, and personalized, hosted DS web pages will take the floor. IF.... that is,.. if Nintendo has prepared for the critics.

Nintendogs isn't going to move systems,.... people need more reasons to NOT pawn their 2.5 million DS's for PSP's this month.

They'll bring what we want,... but I think the hype is much anticipated, solely on the pivotal previews at last E3. Not to mention analysts expect to see how Nintendo plans on competing with $ony and M$.

Nothing can beat last year's E3,... and if this year's does,.... I'll never buy a $ony product again.,,,, and I'll be living in Japan for the next 3 years,... so it'll be rough.
:)

BTW,... I so love Nintendo!!!!

if you own nintendo stock, SELL, SELL, SELL!!

You post this in every Nintendo thread that I've ever seen you post in. Therefore I've drawn the conclusion that either:

1) You're a sad, 13-year old boy crying out for attention, or...
2) You're an ignorant Sony or MS fanboy.

You could even be both. Regardless, unless you can come up with some more original comments that actually add substance to the discussion, people are going to get tired of you real quick.

I mean come on tell me what's a great game to play on DS right now because I'd like to dust mine off and go buy a game and play it. I dont have a problem with nintendo but the act like they poop dont stink. Last thing i played on a Nintendo system was RE4 and now what? wait another 6-3 months for something fairly cool to come out.

 not really my cup of tea. Where are the A++ titles that EVERY loyal nintendo fan should expect? I mean Nintendo has some talented people in the building and they work them on dumb projects that on a whim they cancel. Wheres Mario Kart DS,Metriod DS, LOZ DS. Oh yea there not out yet because they rushed the DS to get a leg up on the PSP. I think the head hanchos need to be trashed and bring in some young blood into the leadership roles in the company. Bring back the glory days know what I mean?

one of which is a platform exclusive. You can get a chesseburger anyplace but I go to (insert favorite food place) because the foods better.
Thats why people should buy Nintendo products because they can only get them from NINTENDO! Other wise why not buy the PS2 or Xbox versions for online support or custom soundtracks? get what Im saying, It's not that I think nintendo sucks it's that there is no incentive to buy there stuff anymore unless it's exclusive which is now few and far between.

GizmoGC
03-10-2005, 03:27 AM
Umm, those are AAA titles. How often does Sony come out with a Jak, Ratchet and Clank, Socom type game? 1 every 2 months? Just like Nintendo. WarioWare, Yoshi, and Pac-Pix are pretty big titles. Whatever. I hate arguing with people that just can't seem to WAIT.

So here's a solution, don't BUY a game for GAMECUBE if you want ONLINE/CUSTOM soundtracks. GASP! I know, shocking. Remember, Gamecube is $50 CHEAPER then Xbox or PS2. Please, try to play Starfox, Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong on any other system. Oh wait, you CAN'T.

Ok, I'm done. Take your bad photoshop and leave. This is for discussing DS going online, not your 'dissapointments' with Nintendo.

This thread says a lot about the "opposition". Nintendo is poised to make a big, important, awesome announcement, and it's met with all of this negativity. No matter what the positive thing is, people will always find a way to negatively spin it. "Well they should've done it sooner." Please, stop talking and making yourself look stupid.

I eagerly await Iwata's keynote speech. Although this is only GDC (and not e3), this could still be a make or break moment for Nintendo. I don't see how they could drop the ball completely though. If nothing happens at all, well then "there's always e3", which is comforting.

I'm trying to keep expectations low. I expect that he'll just announce the DS's online capability, and maybe tell developers that "it's in their hands".

I'd agree with you on the Handheld front. This announcement could be HUGE, as something really compelling coming from them right now could throw a monkeywrench into the PSP's launch plan.... but in the absence of that, you could see a bunch of DS systems being sold off by some to get thier PSP.

Well, for good or for ill, we will all know in just about 5 hours.

You see the thing is I don't "care" about Nintendo, or Sony, or any company. It seems you guys are defensive of them, as if you have some sort of loyalty, or connection to them. I am a consumer, and I want only the best bang for my buck. Having one online game, eight months away, is not what "going online" is about. Microsft has already set a much higher standard with it's Xbox Live service. The PSP, on it's launch day, already has around ten online enabled games. Nintendo has shown us one game, more than half a year away, that will be online. Yeah, I wonder why there's "negativity."

What you say makes sense but my point about negativity wasn't about a company. It was that you are saying Mario Kart and Metroid wouldn't be online compatible. Which at this point is all speculation.

I do however feel that Nintendo is the company everyone loves to rant about.

It said that the DS will be able to communicate wirelessly with designated Wi Fi hotspots. Does that mean that if I have a wireless hub, that I can use it at home? Or are they going to have some sort of designated Nintendo encryption that's only accessable through Malls or something.

Microsft has already set a much higher standard with it's Xbox Live service. The PSP, on it's launch day, already has around ten online enabled games. Nintendo has shown us one game, more than half a year away, that will be online. Yeah, I wonder why there's "negativity."

PSP has THREE; Twisted Metal, NBA Shootout, and ATV. Get your facts right.

There's five...

Twisted Metal: Head-On
ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin Trails
MLB
NHL
NBA Shootout

I don't see any MLB game coming out at launch, and NHL, do you mean Gretzkey? Cause I beleive thats not online either.

I remember saying way back in the day that "if they can get Animal Crossing online, I'll be happy", and I am. If they support it by making new items available for download and the such, and you can visit ANYWHERE, oh man.

That would rule.

While this announcement seems a bit anemic, I'm reserving judgement until after E3. Hopefully then Nintendo will announce a slew of new titles, more online games, and hopefully pin down some release dates for their bigger titles.

I'm more then happy to ait 6-8 months to play Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and all other AAA Nintendo titles online. I'd rather them launch it then with good games, rather then now with junk (Like the PSP launch with online games)

Me too, but that's assuming that there will be more online games. I mean, why announce that your going online, but only announce one game? They had Mario Kart on-hand, but only used it in the DS's 30 to 100 feet wireless mode.... that scares me, makes me think that they're not going to bring it online.

This could be too little too late. Online sounds great but Nintendo should have done all this THIS gen, not next, they are still a step behind.

Great news through, now there just needs to be eMail and AIM on the DS and I might look into getting one.

All I have to say about this matter is that Nintendo brought the gamecube online too..........

and we all know what happened to that. So pardon me if i'm a bit skeptical -_-

evilmax, pretty sure that all you would need is a hotspot which a wireless router at home would suffice.

I caught my attention that iwata pointed out they have to use the protocol to support the online wifi gaming for games. my thinking was that as long as the games support wireless lan then it would be automatically compatible. I guess it's not as easy as that.

According to Xlink (or who ever it was) when they were working on the DS app for online games the difficulty for them was that the DS wasnt nativly designed to handle a wifi signal from anything other than another DS, where as the PSP was almost prepared from the start.

But now it's just a matter of programming upcoming games to recognize the signal and react accordingly (which could be more or less difficult than we all think depending on the game itself.).

In the end only Nintendo knows, and since they've been so hesitent to enter the online area I think when it's finally in hand it's going to be good for all multiplayer games. After all Mario Kart, etc. . . all being not online while others are would be just cruel.
Anyway since in japan they had that online demo for the DS where they go to a store and get the DS to download game demos; I think that it's logical to assume that updates to the DS firmware and game software updates are possible even for games that aren't online from the get go.
In the end it's all speculation. E3 should answer a lot of questions, it was referenced enough by the Nintendo higher ups.

from what the guys over at Demasked have been saying, all the "juicy" info will be available to the press/publc at E3. COnsider this announcment as a teaser rather than a full fledged product :)

Another interesting tidbit from Nintendo's keynote address at the GDC was about the Revolution. It will be Wi-Fi enabled out of the box. Could there possibly be some DS/Revolution networking in the future?

Called that one months ago, let it be remembered. As I've said, this is where fumbling around with console-handheld connectivity finally matures. No Transfer Paks, no special cables. Just proximity and the right software.

If the cost of entry to this ir reduced to just owning the base platform for the console and handheld it becomes much more interesting to consumers and developers alike.

gizmogc is just a fanboy, don't even try to say anything semi negative. Now what I would like to know is with this (RUMOR) that a new Gameboy is comming out to duke it out with the PSP will Nintendo dropship ala virtual boy and move on the the next Gameboy? Just a Rumor but I mean come on most kids these days are going to be wowed by PSP graphics and jump ship to PSP unless Nintendo can make something equal or better. With the NGC being so small already and the fact that they never lost money on the systems from the getgo(unconfirmed) a portable NGC would be able to better handle a VS fight with a PSP. Nintendo cant afford to lose the handheld market. Any thoughts?

Fanboy? I'm buying a PSP with 6 games, but I'm still a Nintendo fanboy? Interesting.

I really don't think Nintendo will 'drop' the DS like the Virtual Boy, due to the fact DS has an install base of OVER 4 Million, plus they just launched it in Europe.

The Australian launch has apparently gone well also.

The Virtual boy is meaningless to the DS' fate. Nintendo has put vastly more resources into promoting the DS already than the VB received in its entire existence. The VB was a half hearted effort that led one to suspect they'd already given up on it the day it went on sale. It might never have been done at all if the executive who led its development didn't have a lot of political capital within the company thanks to his highly profitable prior projects. If it hadn't been for his death in a traffic accident he would liely have redeemed himself in his post-Nintendo ventures.
