View Full Version : Just beat Castlevania: AoS...

So as the title says I just beat AoS, and I wondered what other people thought of the unlockables.

See, I bought the game used, so I foolishly played the game on hard mode first (I figured it was meant to be an option, since I deleted the save games right off the bat), got the "bad" ending, looked up a walkthrough to see what I needed for the good ending, then got that. So my question is this: Is normal mode by any chance HARDER than hard mode? The enemies take more hits to kill and do more damage in hard mode, but then again I read that the silver bullet gun and death's scythe aren't in normal mode, and those were really saving my ass near the end of the game. Is it worth going through again in normal mode somewhere down the line for a challenge?

And also, how is the game with the unlockable Julius character? He seems to control well, but I'm worried it might get old fast since he can't level up, or learn new skills, or have his own menu.

For a first time play-through the game was great, but the replay value seems a little dissapointing after hearing how great it supposedly was in reviews. I was sort of hoping for a "nightmare" mode or something along those lines (as hard mode in this is still easier than CotM, which was about right in my opinion). Replaying the game still doesn't sound terribly bad, but really no better than replaying CotM. Am I wrong?

Yeah the replay sucks compare to SOTN. I thought the Julius game play alot like the orginal castlevania. Pretty good but I never beat the game with him. Just got tire of them game. I still think Castlevania SOTN is better. Sorry about not deleteing my old saved data.

I thought normal mode was easy. I played through the whole game without no problems. I never tried hard mode. I did play the boss rush mode and that was a joke got everything in like four try.

haha. Yeah, I always delete saves of used game data to prevent myself from cheating. I neglected to realize that cartridge games save unlockables independently of saved game data.

I've always wanted to play SotN, but I never had a playstation (I grew up on Nintendo, what can I say?). Someday I'll get a Psone, or two... someday...

SOTN is way better. Its old and have very bad voice acting but there was alot of reply value. Awesome game. Just awesome.

Wow, that's too bad. Hard mode was pretty decent. The headswitching boss, Death, and the VERY final boss at the end were all pretty hard (I must've spent at least a couple hours on Death). You are right about boss rush mode being a joke, since your character has such a high level in it (and a gun!).
I did find the game surprisingly long though. Everyone seemd to complain about its length, but it took me about the same amount of time as CotM.

I thought circle of the moon was hard. I don't think I ever beat that game, I just give up on it. Yeah AOS is pretty short compare to SOTN.

CotM was hard. I never got through the Arena, but I did beat the game.

Symphony of the Night is one of the greatest games ever, but the GBA games are great though limited experiences of the true Castlevania series. I enjoyed the 2d instant-classics on the GBA....with all the crap that is in 3d.

While I agree that SotN was the best Castlevania game, I think AoS has the best storyline. I really enjoyed the way Konami brought the series into the present/future without mucking it up. Plus the ending and ultimate destiny of the main character was a great twist!

hmm... now I'm all tempted to go out and buy a PSone just for SotN. Anyone know the cheapest way to go about getting both those things?

SotN = I have one non-GH for trade (with the rare SG). Or you can check Blockbuster, if they have them they will be GH for $10.
