My favorite gametype has to be the Baldur's Gate, Diablo, Champions of Norrath hack and slash RPG.

My question is - are any of these types of games exclusive to PS1 or PS2? I know close to nothing about Playstation games, but I do know about Xbox, so I already know about all the multiplatform ones (like Bards Tale, Xmen Legends, Demon Stone, Baldurs Gate, etc).

Are there any others besides the two Norraths?

There was a PS1 RPG called Darkstone which I'm pretty sure came out on PC first. It was a 3d dungeon crawling hack and slash and pretty damn fun too.

You should try Darkstone for the PS1. It's a fun little action RPG that can usually be found for less than $5.

Edit: Beaten by a min. I wrote an FAQ for it. Click on the picture in my sig to view it.

Ys is a decent action RPG that just came out for Ps2-only (though it's coming for PSP as well I think).

Evergrace... Its one of the first ps2 titles. Its about $6 anywhere. You can fully customize just about everything, but the graphics aren't the best.

You could try out Kingdom Hearts which is basically a hack and slash rpg game based on Disney characters.

Alundra PSone and the new Ys Ark of Nepashtim (mentioned above) are a little closer to old-school Zelda-style action/RPGs, but both are pretty good. I agree that Darkstone PSone is decent -- even if it released as a $10 game.

Some people like the Hunter: The Reckoning games, which are lighter on the RPG elements -- more like Gauntlet: Dark Legacy (which is also decent). I thought Hunter was kind of lame personally, but it can be found cheap.

The upcoming Arc the Lad is a promising action/RPG. I'm not sure if the first PS2 one is the same genre (the first 3 were tactical RPGs). I'm sure someone else knows, and if it is, you can find it crazy cheap.
