I just applied to Bank of America and they told me that the starting pay for a teller is about $9.50. Anybody else work at other banks? Is the pay about the same? I'm not sure if I should apply to the other chains like Wells Fargo and Washington Mutual.
Also, how is the job? Any advice? Thanks.

$9.50 to sit on your ass in an air conditioned building all summer sounds like a God send. Even if you go to other banks the pay isn't going to fluctuate that much, maybe half a buck more or less, nothing you're going to notice.

Does that $9.50 include what you take out of the till?

banks normally pay tellers pretty low wages. in addition, alot work you as much as they can without classifying you as fulltime. this gets them out of having to give you full time bennies.
if you need a job, take it. it's good experience. hell banks are everywhere, so you'll always have a potential employer to fall back on...

I used to work at a bank, I loved it.... except for the whole constant math thing (I hate math). I worked with a bunch of hot girls, and I dressed nice eveyday, decent pay, air conditioning, friendly environment. I didn't like having to presure people into opening up new accounts, and get loans though.

Were you a teller or a sales rep? I thought only sales reps tried to sell loans and accounts.
I work at a bank now, and am getting paid 9 dollars an hour. But I started at 7.75 a little more than 7 months ago. The isn't nearly as high as most tellers get paid, but I don't have to sell anything.
Honestly you should take the job now, and after about six months, you should be able to find a job that pays at least 13 an hour.
Incase you're wondering why I'm still working for 9... it's cause I work weekends so i can go to school.

Well I think I might just go ahead and apply at the different companies too and give them a shot, see if anyone will up the pay rate a little. And from the looks of it, working at a bank doesn't seem to be half bad. Thanks for the help people.

$9.50's not bad for any job, but those of you who are comparing wages should remember that minimum wage is higher out here in California.
