First, we brought you the news that the Nintendo DS had sold 87, 000 units in the UK in just two days. Now, we bring you phenomenal news from across the whole continent...
As reported previously, the DS sold 87, 000 units in two days in the UK. However, although the UK is the biggest European gaming market, that is not to say that the rest of Europe didn't do (or rather buy) their part.
As a quick reminder, the DS:
-Sold 500, 000 in just one week in America
-Sold 500, 000 in just four days in Japan
The Nintendo DS now holds the records for the fastest-selling system in both the UK and Australia in the entire history of gaming. Huge pressure was on Europe to match it, especially with the news that Nintendo was going to provide 650, 000 units for the European launch, which was more than analysts' predictions.
And Europe have bought the DS in their hordes. Of the 650, 000 units made available on Friday 11th March, over 600, 000 had been sold by Sunday! This means that Europe, in just one weekend, managed to buy more DS consoles than the U.S. and Japan managed in a week and four days respecitvely.
This news will surely mean that Nintendo will begin to pay more attention and deliver more towards the European market.
The sales and demand were so huge that many titles, such as Pokemon Dash and Polarium, sold out within hours, having huge shortages all around the continent. This may explain the low positions of the two games on the charts...
With such phenomenal sales, surprising even Nintendo, it will mean that we will see not only an increase in games ales but also Nintendo of Europe and their factories struggling to keep up with the overwhelming demand for the new dual-screened handheld.
