In an announcement made exclusively through IGN this afternoon, KOEI Corporation has confirmed that it will be releasing two brand new PlayStation 2 titles for America later this year. The first is the latest follow-up to Kou Shibusawa's award-winning historical simulation series, Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Expected to arrive in June, Romance of the Three Kingdoms X retells the familiar 150-year fall of the Han Dynasty and will include more than 200 story-based events. It will also boast a brand new "Debate" command for diplomacy and negotiations and give players the option to select several different ranks.

KOEI's second announcement is a little less well-known. Developed by Goshow and released in Japan as Gladiator, Colosseum: Road to Freedom follows the decline of the Roman Empire and the death of Caesar Marcus Aurelius. It's an action/RPG in every sense of the word and will take place almost exclusively in arenas filled with gladiators, warriors, and hungry tigers. It'll come to the U.S. in July.

Colosseum sounds cool, though it reminds me of Gladius. I haven't gotten around to playing a Romance of the Three Kingdoms yet, but hopefully this one will be a good game like many of it's predecessors.
